Tom Scully in September ...

Grandson of a gun

Recommended Posts

Must admit I did see Lynch on AFL Insider last night - but I did not take it as "he's signed with GWS" at all... sounded to me like Tom is genuinely yet to decide (consistent with what G Lyon said on Monday night). The only thing Lynch revealed is that we're likely to know the outcome later this week.

I wonder if GWS have actually put a deadline on it? Sheedy would know the longer he goes un-signed, that the $$$ may not have been the deal-breaker that they thought, so all of a sudden he's telling him to come and look at our facilities, and that in 10 years blah blah.

Could it be a late attempt to get him to sign? If it doesn't, it could free up more money to throw at someone else. Time's ticking for GWS - if the move hasn't been anounced by this time next week, I think there will be a lot of red faces in the media circles, as well as a majority of posters here.

Thats exactly what I thought as well. However did you also think that Brad Scott didnt believe him ? ( not that that makes one iota of difference)

Didn't really notice Scott's reaction to be honest. But Lynch's reaction to the question seemed encouraging to me... much like his "Melbourne supporters should be optimistic" comment from On The Couch a while back.

When I weigh up the benefits to each offer, it becomes crystal clear that the offer from MFC is better in the long run for his future, and his future earning potential. And this is, I believe, where we will see the difference in the coming days. If I am wrong, I will (un)happily eat my words, and I will be devastated to lose him. If I am right, I do not look forward to the way some of you will treat him given the way he has been treated throughout all of this.

This is where I disagree - I am not sure I can make the figures work to see it as a better financial option for him to stay with the MFC - but football is not all about finances - the emotional aspect of winning premierships and staying with mates counts for a lot - otherwise 3 Collingwood players would have marched.

I am hoping he see the non financial reasons for staying with us.

I think that there is where posters are getting confused. There is one quite large camp that thinks he is gone. There is a very small camp that think he will stay. But there is a significant amount of people ( me included and I hope you dont mind me speaking for you, RPFC, Hardtack and Nasher) who to this point are taking TS at face value and saying that he will make a decision one way or the other and until the decision comes out of his or the clubs mouth everything else is pure conjecture. Therefore this camp is refusing to dump on the kid as at this moment as he is a MFC player.

You can speak for me too Nutbean. I've been of that opinion all season.

It was brought up twice in the show - at the very beginning and in the middle - in the middle section he said it should be known by weeks end. At the beginning of the show I think Scott was very sceptical about the process.

Dont get me wrong - I will call a spade a mercenary if he leaves but right here and right now - he is a MFC player who hasnt made a decision.

Sorry, I missed the beginning of the show... will take your word for it. You seem slightly more credible than Kim Hagdorn... B)

So Rhys Palmer's player profile is up on the GWS website. But....but I thought his manager said they would talk to another club? Oh you mean they just BS'ed everyone? Surely not?

I really find it hard to believe anyone thinks Scully will stay at the MFC. To me it is so blatantly bloody obvious he is going it's quite laughable.

Please share with us how it is blatantly obvious. I am clearly sitting on the fence on this one, but would really love to know how you are so convinced. Is it because of what you have seen/heard in the media?

Apologies - I just realised how insulting that comparison must have come across to you!! Hagdorn is at about the lowest base you can get.

I can't really be stuffed to be honest, have a look through this thread there are a vast array of reasons. Perhaps the biggest one was early on when Stynes said something along the lines of "this situation is making kids lie to firends / family" was the first time alram bells started ringing.

Heard from a few people close to the club that they are fairly sure he is gone as well.

If anyone wants a $100 on it let me know.

What is YOUR definition of "people close to the Club"? Are they people that would any inside knowledge of what is going on with Tom? Becuase how I see it, unless the people that are close to the Club are in fact Tom Scully himself, or his parents, or his actual manager, I would think they would have absolutely no idea.

Schwarz is close to the Club, he's fairly sure (about 98% that is), perhaps he is your source.

I'm just making out official that I don't know.

It's the only defensible position. Any poster who thinks they do is full of [censored].

That's how I feel too.

You can think it is a charade like the way the Judd stuff was, but you don't know that for certain.

We will know soon and we can get on with preparations for next year.

Stynes stated that and then about 1 - 2 months later in an article / interview, stated he sat down with Tom, Tom looked him in the eye and he said no decision has been made

Carp.

Any position is defensible if it is backed up by sound logic and not proven incorrect by incontrovertible truth.

Your logic hasn't been sound, in my opinion

You've created a vision of a soap opera

If Melbourne knew, we'd know. Why would they play along with the so called charade?

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
