100% Melbourne

I just received my 100% Melbourne email which I presume will be followed up with a request for money. I will do my bit as I have done previously.

What I did find startling is the chosen pictures of the players down the bottom of the page.

Not one player in the leadership group has their picture on the email.

I have donated in the past but I won't be now. The aim of the debt demolition and such campaigns was too put the Melbourne Football Club in a position free of debt. This has been achieved. It's now time for the club to stand on it's own two feet and banish the reliance on supporter's own hard earned.

I understand your thoughts. But I want a flag...so I wanted to make a stand. Just wish the players did it gameday. maybe it will come..

I think you will find that the whole purpose of this is to pay 100% of the cap and retain out "future starts"... hence the chosen pictures of our "future stars" we want to keep...

I am all for this campaign, but i dont see how it can all be about "paying 100% of the cap", this should be one of our first expenditures and others eg marketing come after, they are using the term "cap" but it will be used to subsidize other other of the football and non football departments, its just a much more friendly thing to ask money for.

Anyway, even $10 from each member would equate to what 4 and a bit desks.... and some will be even more generous so we could raise quite a bit for not alot each, is a good cause, would be amazing to bump up the foundation figure to close to 1.5M, thats alot of desks

edit for shite grammar

Other clubs are asking their fans.

If there are people able and willing - go for it.

Relying on fan money isn't a sustainable model and can't be continually relied upon. First it was the debt, now the salary budget. What's next?

Premiership ?

edit: I poste this on O'logy.

It would not surprise me that the 100% Melbourne campaign may be a sign of things to come.

The thing is we've front loaded contracts the past two years, we've had TH stagger contracts to assist in retaining our young players - now we're already to embark on paying 100% TPP ? Already ? With a younger list ?

Maybe it's coincidence, but my hunch tells me the ball is already rolling for the next incoming coach. And maybe one of the demands is 100% TPP ? Maybe it is done to help retain our young star(s) ? Free up $ in the FD ? Or perhaps a sign of an incoming established player recruit ?

Food for thought. I'm in.

Did anyone say the club is relying on it?

Don't forget that every other AFL club raises money in just the same way...

Who bloody knows - paying out Schwab or Connols when they've had enough of them? I think I'll sit this one out, donated to the last few and also donated a couple of items for fundraising purposes when we were on our knees and didn't hear anything back at all re results. Doubt the items were ever raffled /sold / whatever. I might go and buy a hoodie from the demonshop instead.

I think I'm still p!ssed off with this club for that day to be honest. It might take a spring of racing and summer of cricket before I can forgive anyone assocaited with the MFC.

I thought it was interesting that players were named as having "stood up" (Tapscott, Trengove and Gawn) - maybe I'm reading too much into it, but could that be a thinly veiled message to a couple of players?

Of course it is....and i will only donate if i can get an assurance that the money won't go in paying Scully an over inflated contract....i would much rather they pay Trenners over the odds than scully.

I understand your feelings Harcourt, especially the last line.

I am feeling a bit that way myself.

And right now As a group I do not think they deserve the 92.5% figure.

However what will my disappointment achieve?

bugger all.

So in my small way I will once again put my hand in my pocket.

By the way where is the mystery $1.9Mill sponser?

Seems to have vanished faster than our form!

As much as i hope this campaign is fruitful, i think its pretty hard to swallow.

Debt Demolition aimed to restore the Melbourne Football Club; This is asking average people to donate money to already wealthy people.

I really cant bring myself to give money to the already well off...

It's not as simple as that.

We are trying to keep a list together and they are obviously trying to shake every tree they can.

Clubs fundraise.

I'm just glad that mine is doing for reasons other getting out of debt...

Right now it's just bad timing to be encouraging us to give money that'll go directly to the players. If the campaign was focused on raising money for something like pre-season Arizona trip or other football department upgrades/facilities/whatever then i think people would be inclined to put their money forward...

just sent off my $100 If we are ever to compete with the top clubs, it is the supporters who must get the motor running.

Debt Demolition was just the first stage...We still have a long way to go....The Filth FC turned over close on $85 Mill in the last financial year...to get to that level the club is going to ask for your help more than once my friend.

Clubs will always ask fans for money....The Fan is what keeps AFL alive.....The MFC should have been doing this years ago..

It was a request not a demand. Get over yourself, you have a gripe with the club that's something only you and they can resolve.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
