Mate, my brother and I have been picking 'best teams' and 'who'd you rather' over beers for 20 years (not continuously :D ). It's a part of footy I enjoy and makes winter go quicker. What gets you through the cold months ?

Understand what you're saying but I took the "Who'd you rather have in the team?" question from the thread title and put forward my opinion that they can both play a role in our best 22.

FWIW: If ranking the list from best player to worst Miller would be ahead of Dunn. What I took issue with were the 'is and always will be soft' comments from the thread starter on Dunn who is 19 and in his 2nd year. The crux of his argument was that Dunn is too soft but Miller isn't exactly a man of steel.

for me its miller as i think dunn is too 'soft', small and doesnt back up with second efforts., he either wins the ball or loses it, there is no pressure applied after

Dunn is not strong enough to play as a CHF at this stage. But he can be more than handy as a third tall. Miller can then take the CHF role, lead further up the ground or even help out in the backline if needed.

IMO it is not a case of either or, because in the long term both will be part of our best 22. With Neita and Holland both coming to the end of their careers, we need to develop both these guys, it's that simple.

well both in this week, miller will play on hall though...will be interesting to see if they both play next week and then who plays where.

With TJ, Davey, Whelan, Robbo all to come back next week it is almost guaranteed that 2 or 3 of Dunn, Holland, Miller and Ferguson will be dropped. These boys are fighting for their season.

I have faith that Ferguson and Miller will fight the hardest (their the two most passionate), the two current most important players.

Dunn will be a good player for years to come. He is not essential to our finals this year.

By the way there should be a 'both' and 'neither' option included in the poll. I would have gone 'both'.

Going into our first final this year with Dunn at CHF is stupidity. It doesn't matter how much people rate him.

He is not tough enough (yet), he leads to the flanks, he backs off from body contact (i've seen it too many times), plus he is 19 in his first year of football.

That is too much pressure for one kid. Miller is our only option. Dunn is not essential, play him in the pocket or on the flank, no problems. Not at CHF!

I agree, Rhino. I'm bemused by those supporters doubting the ability of Dunn to contribute in a final. I don't expect domination, but he brings variety to our side and is a difficult matchup for the opposition when they're already trying to cover Neitz and Roberston.

On a side note, I expect Miller to play forward this week. If need be he can go onto Hall, but I expect Carroll to take Hall, Rivers to take O'Loughlin, and Ferguson to take Rivers zoning role. ND needs to do something different this week, and I believe we can stretch the Swans backline. The agile Dunn can play the traditional chf's role on LRT, with Miller and Neitz deeper in the forward line. I'd play through the leading Dunn as much as possible to take LRT away from supporting Barry. He needs to run LRT off his feet.

Dunn will be a star - he should in in the side regardless of whether Miller is playing or not

Thats good in theory but a forward line that tall needs at least one permanent crumber at their feet. If Neitz, Miller and Dunn are all forward at the same time then Yze and Motlop must be inside forward 50 as well.

Not as stupid as playing another player that has had OP alot of the year and what do you know leads to the wings picks up easy possessions (and low number per game at that) does not hirt the opposition off the boot and is questionable below his knees.

Maybe if we puts "L" or "P" plates on Dunn may ease his transition into the big league. If in form and fit, Dunn is a must in my 22.

I think some people here (not having a crack at anyone) confuse the term "soft" with "physical strength".

Dunn in no way is soft, I think that if you say it was strength in the contests that he is lacking then their would be no argument, because at the age of 19, of course he isn't going to be overly strong, but that will improve with age and a pre-season on the weights

I vote for Miller and Dunn. Miller showed some signs today. I think that with his fitness and confidence back he can play an impotant role as a leading centre half forward. As Garry Lyon said he is the sort of player who needs to be at or near peek fitness to play well, with OP in the pre season. Is way to early to write Miller off. Happy to have Dunn working in behind him and wider.

A bit premature when you consider that he barely played half a game at CHF after a long stint in the VFL.

He did what he usually does, ran hard, marked and made his opponent earn his kicks.

Dunny needs to develop a mean streak, he is not strong or hard enough to play finals as a CHF just yet. It will come, and when it does Miller will take over from Dutchy in the backline. It seems like a good long-term solution.
