I have just come from Darwin and am now in Cairns and I hope this doesnโ€™t make me a racial profiler, but I look at every young indigenous boy I see and wonder if they can play footy.

We certainly did the right thing ending the Darwin game. It must be debilitating for the players.

Yes RL we have the fan factotum team set on high beat at 06:30 this morning.

Mr Leg I hate to be the one to tell you.

They are 40 - 50 years younger than you!ย

They are highly trained athletes not old!

Yes I know that, but to play a high level physical sport in those conditions is ridiculous enough ย but to then haveย the disadvantage of having to fly home, recover and play again in a short break is totally unacceptable.

Thankfully we have finally come to our senses and put our players first and short term financial gains second.

Well very quiet around here I must say despite all the hubbub around the national Draft. Not a peep from the usual suspects.

Well I am very happy with our draft picks, Jackson and Pickett have that X Factor we all seekย but I am most impressed by the young Rivers boy,ย Trent. They say heย can play footy but most importantly heย comes from the right genetic stock! I believe he is the great nephew of none other than Sir Murray Rivers QC, theย formerย Supreme Court Judge of Victoria and staunch defender of theย Royal Family and the importance of ourย place in the British Commonwealth.ย

What is more important to the MFC,ย drafting players with talent or drafting the right type of lad, with the right values, eh? I think you all agree with me, itโ€™s the latter.ย

RL, If you care to explore behind theย facadeย of Darwin as a modern progressiveย city and government tourist authority offerings you will find bogans, longgrassers, ferals, luddites and troglodytes abound.

So where is the lost income coming from?

From the proceeds of a game in Melbourne with ticket sales, sponsorship etcย and a better finish ย to the year increased membership etc.

Pie in sky stuff, won't cover the lost revenue by a long shot.ย

Disagree. We make the finals for example, by one game, not having lost the regular next game after Darwin and calculate the difference in revenues from finals participation, gate, sponsorship, membership, merchandise, attracting new players, which in turn increases the preceding items again. Also what if substitute game is say a home game against Bombers for example, the gate alone for that would cover the Darwin game.

You are making assumptions that I believe will not happen.

We will not get a replacement game against a team like the Bombers it will more likely be the GCS.

I cannot believe that one new member will be acquired it 2020 because we have one more game at the G, winning is what drives membership and nothing else. After 2019 we will struggle to get to that level in 2020. As for winning after the Darwin game we were absolute crap for the majority of the time we played in Darwin we could not win anywhere any time.

Surfice to say Mr. Leg we have opposite views of the benefits of playing in Darwin and I doubt either of us will change their view.

NT sponsorship gone?

It has been cut because we are only playing one game in 2020, GCS have taken over the Darwin game.

You are not saying I hope OD,ย that you wanted to continue with Darwin are you?

If nothing else and you are looking for a reason to have stopped it, just ask the players or someone in the FD.

Good riddance I say.

I have only one problem where is the replacement money coming from? All I hear is wishy washy comments about increased membership,ย  sale of merchandise and more money from sponsors. All of which is BS that I can see. The only thingย  that drives those things is winning lots of games, playing one extra game at the G will IMO not drive up funds. We also have trouble winning at the G playing away from the G seems to give a better chance of winning. IMO you could form an argument that playing the extra game increases the chance of a lose which would drive down finances.

I understand members want more games at the G but there is a cost of returning the game that everyone is happy to ignore until the profit for 2020 is announced.

This thread just keeps on breaking news and educating the masses.

In the interests of further educationย

The cherry market is subject to huge manipulation. SA crops being introduced late into the market as drought conditions are indicated as prompting a shortage. NE Vic has supplies at $7 a kg for seconds (or Casey as we call them) while Yea cherries were $30 for5 kg (Caseys)

Global headwinds could impact on Banana prices as Josh and Mathias prepare (scare) us for disaster while praising their economic management in retaining a shallow surplus. Thank god we have such giants of fiscal responsibility to help us through the festive season.

The reaction s in the real economy are remote from the considerations of the Canberra bubble. Fortunately ScoMo is reported to be in the pacific islands somewhere. No doubt feasting on bananas.

And some people have stupidly suggested closing this thread down, therebyย denying us all this type of important information.

To think that this thread is probably the only thread on DL, that doesn't have constantย personal attacks on other posters.

I enjoy the symbolic red, crimson of the cherry. In the right light it has shades of red and blue. It is a well rounded fruit with a hard core pip, a tough skin protecting the rich and firm flesh.ย It is truly the fruit of the demon supporter.

I find bananas too practical coming with their weird yellow brown shading., and what's with their bendy curved spine thing. Their skin covering being an easily disposable container is environmentally friendly whic is a fine feature.

Both are ideal for smoothies but the cherry smoothie if properly prepared is the peak.

The only negative with the cherry is just what do you do with the pip?

โ€œMax Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.โ€ - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasnโ€™t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus Oโ€™Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, thereโ€™s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demonsโ€™ poor use of the football, itโ€™s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbellโ€™s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
