Forget the Shiraz, try the Malbec.

In the interests of uplifting this thread as Ernie has been imploring recently, I thought the various Legal Eagles who inhabit this thread might be interested in this set of books I stumbled upon in a Jesuit library in Córdoba, Argentina today while taking a short break from my arduous wine tasting duties. The books date from the early 1700’s and were part of a library of 10,000 books, some stretching back to when printing first began. Unfortunately when the Jesuits were kicked out of South America in 1754 many of the books on science and philosophy were burned by the Franciscians as they were deemed to be heretical!

Might I add that's a nice photo of the ghost of Earl Hood there as well

That reflected image looks eerily like it came from my private quarters at The Manor.

Spies abound it seems.

I graciously conceded Daisy. Just don’t shoot the messenger. A lift in post standard is required so that life doesn’t revolve around chats about bananas. A little more imagination is required otherwise the number of posters visiting this place will dissolve like an over ripe banana.

We have been given a reprieve by his Gracious Highness WJ and his coterie of faithful priests. I suspect that no further warnings will be issued and unless there is a lift in interest this thread will self destruct or posters will have the rug pulled.

The silience from Mr Leg is deafening. This does not bode well. Unless we hear from him by the end of the week,  I would suggest the future of this thread be revisited. As the originator if this thread he should have final call on it’s future. Unless of course one views the continued existence of this thread as a charitable way to look after the mental health of OD. He did seem to go into meltdown over the possibility of boning this thing.

It’s bad enough you suggest closing this thread WJ, I mean Hemingway , but you take the name of my horse as your name.

This breach is being put before the Board of the Thread to determine a suitable punishment. I favour a whipping. No BBO you can’t have one as well .

Not another pseudonym!  And here I thought we had another quality poster.

Nice compliment but Redleg is a poor guesser. No pseudonym but If I were to take one from the literary world it might be James Joyce or Leo Tolstoy, not Hemingway - no offence Ernie.

That being the case, I would advise Earl not to touch those books because they'd probably be full of trashy images and little written content of merit. The spines are definitely fake, lucky they are behind glass

Damn  I missed the 1000th page,  what was it like !  any memorable quotes, I cannot go back and read it.

You never go back !   and if I did that would mean taking this thread far too seriously, I enjoy it as it is    Cheers

and here's to the next millenium

Among which, Biffen, your hallucinogenic meanderings have been particularly insignificant.

My contributions were primarily on sedatives I'll have you know. Why  would anyone waste hallucinogenics reading and writing this guff?Particularly when it is read in triplicate .

Well … err .. sorry, I suppose,  Biffen. It's just that your scribblings suggest that you are  permanently on hallucinogenics .

Plus the fact that I know this to be true.

I only became that way after seeing the dulling effects of red wine and sexual depravity on my fellow posters.

You are obviously older than I thought.

Law Society tour group ?

The last one I went to was on the Adriatic and Ionian Sea.

A cruise, Ross Wilson and the rest.

Must be a lot of grey hair onboard.

Lifts to be avoided.

Sounds fun, have a great time.

Can understand why though. If I ran a forum I'd be pretty conservative as well.

Thank you Emerald on behalf of all the posters. I look forward to the next 1000 pages of enlightening, brilliant and even humorous posting. Long  live the thread ,which brings so much joy to so many otherwise boring lives.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
