The trend in modern footy is to have your best kicks behind the ball, and although many people want to play Davey as a small forward, I still beleive we need his kicking skills to get through the press, so I would have him back.

We all know he really struggles to break a hard tag, but if you take Fridays game as a case in point, the Bulldogs would have to decide on who to send Picken to, Davey or Scully, they don't have enough stoppers to cover both. It is a compliment that most coaches see Davey as such a damaging player that the send their no.1 tagger to him, but now we have all our best midfielders up and running, it means others like Scully are a chance to run rampant.

I agree. There's no doubt Davey stunk this year prior to his injury, but last year he was far and away our most lethal user of the ball by foot (cue all the "he's been struggling for years" revisionists). Our coaching staff (starting in the ND era) had the foresight to transform him in to a midfielder and that's what he now is. We'd be wasting one of our best weapons if he played exclusively as a forward.

I concur.. all players need to earn the right to play. NO walk-ins.

Especially after an extended injury break a player needs to be eased back. Davey's no exception.

Maybe after a full recovery he'll feel more "inclined" to participate at hs prior levels

Good theory about having your best kicks back for rebounding except he isn't .Half the problem was the kicks backwards ,sideways ,across the face of goal .When it doesn't work -it's a disaster and costs GAMES . I think his kicking/decision making got too clever .Wing or Forward flank for mine but straight in-walk up start .

Well that depends, Davey does not chase as hard as he once did and is not the most accountable player. I think he would be better forward as we need a fast crumbing forward who can kick goals, all things he can do, and if he does get his chasing mojo back, remember how rushed players were kicking out of our f50 when they knew he was near. That is what I'd like to see back in his game.

I reckon he should play midfield and half-forward. Let him get the ball 70 metres out and drill it 35 metres straight to Watts/Jurrah/Green/Petterd.

Its simple, Bennel out, Davey in he should play HFF but will probably go back.

Midfield leaning forward of centre for mine where his speed and kicking can hurt teams where it matters...on the scoreboard.

Davey [laying QB works at times but not enough to justify him spending time defending in the back 50 where his opponents often hit the scoreboard themselves.

On Friday night we had Jurrah, Green, Sylvia, Howe, Petterd with Watts, Jamar/Martin in our forward line. To me this is reaally 5 Flankers one young tall and the resting ruckman, we need a small forward to apply pressure and to be front and square. Davey is our man this is the position of most value to the team, really he started all this forward pressure when he burst onto the AFL scene. His chase and tackling lead to many other clubs drafting small quick forwards.

I like the suggestion of midfield pushing forward. We have quite a few options coming off the HB line now - Strauss, Nicholson, Tapscott, Blease, Grimes when fit. Davey was useful there when we didn't have other options but I think he's going to be more use on a wing or half forward flank, picking out targets further forward or pushing forward and crumbing to steal goals. With Wonna away we're really lacking in this area as pinpointed further up, so could be a good option.

I think people are taking a month and a half of bad form in what has been a great career and eventual build into a star midfielder.

Davey should play in the middle with stints up forward. That is it....

I like it when he starts as our 6th forward, and then is given the freedom to play wherever he best suits the team. If the backline needs help clearing the ball then he moves up the ground, if more forward pressure is required then he stays forward.

As a small defender it's ok if he's playing on a spud, but not so good if he's manning up a dangerous opponent.

Can't wait to have him, Tapscott and Bail back.

While Davey's form pre injury wasn't the greatest he wasn't getting much help having not one target to kick to whenever he recieved the ball down back and then the sideways and backwards kick would start and then a turnover and.....you know the rest. My point is blokes like Davey off the half back line look really good in a well organised team.
