They can do that over the next 2 seasons though can't they meaning they could get O'Meara next year, but will have to give off all 4 x 17 year old picks the following year?

If they choose to take the picks/trades/players - whatever the choice is, then the team offering those picks gets to choose from the list of the 17 year olds who put their hands up to be drafted. O'Meara is the 1st choice of all clubs, so there is no way GWS would get him Billy.

Just reread your post Billy and you said they wont trade any 17 year olds this year to keep O'Meara. I guess that could happen but having listened to them it sounds as though they want to trade 2 this year and 2 next year to try and get more from the competing clubs.

Thoughts on offering one of compensation picks, the one which is dirtectly after your 1st pick, so that when gws finish last next year they get picks 1 and 2.. we still get 1 compo pick and omeara?

Try 2013...even though the 17 y/o's get auctioned this year, they can't play until the year after..Viney is also not eligible until 2013.

Makes me wonder if any of the payments, for the 17 year olds next year, are in the salary cap? is it possible to front load a massive long term contract, without effecting the salary cap?

With the recent news the AFL has stopped the GWS twist in it's tracks, O'Meara could be back on the Agenda.

He is more of what we lack than Crouch.

I hope we get one of these boys, and after that a Docherty type.

he will complement viney really well and set our midfield up for a decade! Along with mckenzie, JT and Gys...that will be a midfield you can see winnig a flag!

I think your talking about O'Meara?

sorry yes I was replying to the post above who said o'meara might be back on the agenda. He adds a good mix with viney.

Yep, I think we need to get the classiest Mid, with the step to step through traffic and still able to hit targets under extreme pressure.

I was put off by the cost, but in seeing the footages of both Crouch and O'Meara, I now agree & think we should now Go hard to get O'Meara.

O'Meara is a class above... the way he weaves through traffic is incredible to watch, could watch that highlight tape for ages personally. He will be expensive but he looks genuine.

Crouch will be nice but he is more of the HBF type i think, can definately play in the middle though, it is his kicking that puts him the back half though, something we always say we need, someone who can kick through trafficin the back half and hit targets out of the defensive 50, so the ball doesnt just come straight back in.

O'Mear looks better but i would take them both...if only :)

I was put off with crouches quick but unclean handballs that got to target but made the reciever fumble about for the ball a fair bit. His kicking seemed to at least find targets in advantage, but how pinpoint I'm still not sure.

But he's busy like Swan & reminds me of his game a bit.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
