Bailey wouldn't expect to have to explain how one position on the field affects another...

Forwards are getting sucked into contests because of that.

You can also add inexperience in there too, but some are foolish enough to just brand that as an 'excuse'.

You could also bring up blokes like Bate or Dunn, but they've never been able to do it very well and just aren't up to it (mentally, in my opinion).

The point was, if you leave a couple of players up forward, it will create less pressure and more options in the midfield and backline, and result in more inside fifties.

Collingwood’s greatest strength in their game plan at the moment is forward pressure, crowding the forward half and creating turnovers. So what does Bailey do? put another Melbourne player back there, who is an important player in our forward line. This allowed another Collingwood player in their forward half, and enabled the Collingwood backs to push up the ground to help choke th midfield.

To counter Collingwood, I would have kept the Melbourne forward line deep in attack, stretching out the Collingwood side, making them accountable, and not allowing their backs to be part of the midfield press. It doesn't have to be a Gorilla. Put Jurrah in the goal square and you won’t see Harry O’Brian running into his forward fifty, or Collingwood backs tackling in the midfield.

Don't be so quick to ignore its quality midfield - Scully, Trengove, Gysberts and McKenzie are the future, but Collingwood's midfield is NOW.

Wellingham showed how underrated he is. We'll ignore Swan, Beams & Thomas for obvious reasons, but Pendlebury, Ball, Sidebottom are very good.

What I thought was worn noting was what Bate is reported as having said in the Blackrock training thread (I think it was Cards13).

Not just that Collingwood has the best defense he's seen, but also that they make it hard to get back and push ahead of the ball to receive it again in the forward line.

Forwards will push up the ground to help in the midfield, to apply pressure, to make options, that's fairly standard, but then they know they have to work back the other way to provide a forward target.

Collingwood have obviously focused on restricting the opposition's ability to do that.

Very clever.

And lastly - Collingwood should have beaten us soundly, and in these areas - they are the reigning premiers and are years ahead of us.

And I think they had extra motivation against us - not QB, but that a bottom 8 side had come so close the last 2 times we'd matched up.

My suggestion is we trade or recuit a ready made full forward i.e. brendan fevola, or some other monster running around in the VFL, SANFL or WAFL because we sure as hell aint waiting 3 or 4 years to develop one!

Which web browser are you using?

I used to have a lot of problems getting the audio going on Google Chrome on SEN, but the new update seems to have fixed that. just have to except the pop up details that appear under the address bar.

In the past I have always used firefox and it works fine with SEN.

For anyone who was trying to listen to the 2nd half SEN have merged the two into one file now.

I understand that you want to support the coach and the team, but you have to draw the line at some point. You can not seriously believe that if Melbourne parked Jurrah in the goal square, his direct opponent would leave him and move up to the midfield.

Rudeboy has said that Jurrah has been instructed to play higher up around the flanks, so it is not him having to follow the defender up the ground, it is the coach telling him to move up to the midfield, and the defender staying with him, helping the oppositions press congest the ball in the midfield.
