Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Watts Up With That?

Yesterday, while watching the TV in the Percy Beames Sarfraz bar during the last quarter, I spotted a highlight marker around Jack Watts. Curious, but unable to hear what was being said, I made a mental note to watch my recording of the match later that night to find out why Jack had been singled out for analysis. I mean, it was about the only reason to watch any of the footage.

Turns out Matthew Lloyd had been charged with explaining why Melbourne was copping a pasting. Or maybe he had volunteered to give us the benefit of his rapier football acumen:

"Just want to highlight the run here, of Jack Watts, how Collingwood have burnt them off. Watch this: the play keeps going, Jack Watts doesn't want to dig in... Jared Rivers trailing in. He lets his man keep going. Easy ball. [Krakouer passed to Dawes.] Melbourne players just willing to trail in and sit off their Collingwood men, who ran them into the ground today."

Except that is not what happened. Watts was manning Sidebottom and chased him all the way into the Collingwood forward line where Sidebottom did not feature in the play having been well covered by Watts. Jack did exactly what he is supposed to do: run hard and chase his bloke. Pretty solid work from Jack in a lost cause.

And if you ask me, Lloyd knew he'd made a stuff up. You see the ellipsis? (That's the three dots ...) That's where Watts & Sidebottom went out of shot and Lloyd paused momentarily, realising he'd made a blunder. He thought Dawes had beaten Watts, but instead Krakouer had beaten Rivers and Dawes had beaten Gawn. But Lloyd carried on regardless to cover his arse.

Pretty poor, Lloydy.

In the pursuit of full, open and honest broadcast precedent, you can apologise to Watts at his social media platform: http://twitter.com/#!/JackWatts4.

Of course, subsequent to Lloyd's less than insightful disquisition, Old Mother Maher piped up in that earnest "best ever-worst ever" voice that he reserves for his most performance enhanced hyperbole:

"Lloydy, you talk about that. Is it fitness or attitude? What's the key determinant there?"

Oh, just get stuffed.

As stated elsewhere Llyod spent the whole match making excuse (unneeded) for Collingwood and didn't mention our outs or the fact that so many of or players had played only a small handful of games. I think he hasn't recovered form us beating his club last week and cam'r keep his bias out of his supposedly neutral commentary. Of course not only is that unprofessional, but the worse we are, surely putting us down imply Essendon is even worse.

Lloyd hates Melbourne more than any other club. I really don't understand the constant benchmarking people feel the need to do with Watts. Its an obsession....why? Because we picked him at 1 (he had no choice) and people want to have a laugh at us...it started with Leigh Matthews comment a few yrs back saying he couldn't see why he was picked number 1...people who don't know anything don't see that he really is developing in a similar way to Brendan Goddard...it's a slow burn but he will get there...I just can't wait for him to stick it right up some people in years to come...oh hang on then they will all sit there and claim they always knew he was going to be a great player..

Keep going Jack! Go Dees!

Geez I hate Lloyd...I might start a Facebook page about that!

Well put together I noticed that also. I thought jacks workrate was good and wondered why he was being singled out.

It was cringe worthy when they were trying to say that Watts is just one of those players that gets picked on. Then Lloyd went on to say that he has two options to deal with it and one of those was to get physical like he did.

A couple of cheap shots does not make you tough you fool.

Constantly sooking to the umpire and diving is why you got picked on.

Jeepers! What a [censored]. And what did he say about that brilliant chase down and tackle "Oh, he tripped on him and it should have been a free??" Sheesh!

Jack is coming along just nicely thank you. If he would have a crack at the goals when he gets the chance, that would be even better.

I benchmark this game against last year - he came on and got smashed. This year he tried hard, did some good things and looks a well developing, likely prospect.

I looked up the word '[censored]' in the dictionary and saw a picture of Lloyd. I looked up '[censored]'s [censored]' and it was a picture of Maher. Enough said.

Lloyd made the coverage almost unbearable for me yesterday, I loathe him more than any other media personality and am not entirely sure why. Was looking forward to channel 10 coverage since most of our games have been on 7 (I hate how they put 5 ads between goals) but I'd take Bruce and Dennis two man circle jerk over Lloyd's 'special comments' any day.

Watching the repeat of One Week At A Time over lunch (and yes you can make any assumption about my world that you please to) where Quartermaine

and Lloyd were discussing the horribleness of yesterday for the Dees and Lloyd managed to single out Jack Watts (and only Jack Watts) to put his boot into,

saying he didn't put enough effort into a chase and just ran to the closest Pie available, so to Lloyd it looked like Jack was only putting in a token effort.

Now I have to ask that for all the awfulness that we and the media witnessed yesterday why is it that Watts is the only one that is singled out for criticism?

When in truth he was far from our worst, actually (despite fading in the fourth) one of better players out there. I feel sorry for the kid.

Just curious of peoples opinions......

I actually brought this up in another thread as after I saw it it baffled me completely.....

I wanted some other opinions and just got them, thank guys!!!

Probably not the only thing that was unbearable yesterday though ;) !!!

Would Lloyd have picked the vision?

No vision was shown just him making the only comment he could muster.....

He chose to criticise Jack, above all others.

Would Lloyd have picked the vision?

That's a reasonable question, R. And it's why I wrote "Turns out Matthew Lloyd had been charged with explaining why Melbourne was copping a pasting. Or maybe he had volunteered to give us the benefit of his rapier football acumen." Who knows how TV stations organise their on-air experts.

The footage came after an ad break, so no doubt the producer and Lloyd cooked up their slap-dash analysis while Ten was flogging car insurance or Masterchef.

Yeh I thought he made a stuff up as well but he reiterated the point regarding Watts in the Final Siren or whatever it was so he is a [censored]

He was also VERY confident that Essendon would be 'far too strong' for Fremantle with the ins that they had. [censored] X2

Pretty sure QueenC was watching One Week At A Time, not the game.

Yes she was, and there definitely was no specific vision shown of the game at all.

Yeah, and I'm absolutely sure I was replying to the OP, who was talking about coverage of the game.

Not sure I really want to go back at look at any coverage of the game.....

Once was more than enough  !!!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
