I suggest people watch this if they get a chance.

I found it insightful into the instructions that are actually being given to our players and what Bailey expects.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/tabid/8667/contentid/359287/default.aspx

It's a video put together from Channel 7 filming the lead up to the Carlton match.

As we've heard preached on this forum before, leading into the match his main focus was on:

- Contested possessions

- Tackles

- Rolling on (mark, play on, mark, play on - staying on the move to provide options/targets upfield)

I also think you hear him making a lot of the criticisms that we as supporters make on this site.

There were a few incidents that demonstrated to me that inexperienced players will make mistakes, and there's not much any coach would be able to do about it.

You just need to give them time for it all to sink in.

And the video of the team singing the song was great.

One thing that stuck out to me - in the past Bailey has said he doesn't participate in singing the song because it's for the players, that he wasn't out there on the ground playing the game.

Obviously this game (and other recent games have) meant a bit more to him.

"I want no-one in our forward 30. That's our space to lead into." Could that be the instruction that a few of our boys are misinterpreting? We're exciting when we do this right, but when our forward structure falls over, we look like a rabble.

Cool thanks for that. Best thing Channel 7 have cut in years!!! I'ts a tough job that's for sure.

Out of interest from Friday nights game was that the first time Bails has sung the song in the circle??

I know in the early days of his tenure he made a point of staying away saying "It was for the Players"

I like seeing him in there involved. He must ride the same Roller Coaster as the players....Great vision of the Song.

Yeah, I don't mind this idea while we don't have a big bloke of quality to throw in the goal square but it just means that either A. The forwards aren't reading the play well enough and running back toward goal quick enough or B. The forwards are not fit enough.

They aired it on Friday night at half time, and it reignited the confidence I have in Bailey. I thought it showed that he has great belief that his game plan works, but only when the players actually execute it well.

I can't remember where I heard it, think it might have been Nathan Buckley on that Channel 7 footy show on a Sunday morning, it was mentioned about Malthouse going elsewhere to coach, and the general comment was how it takes even the best coaches a minimum of 4 years at a new club to get the players that they want, playing the style that they want, as well as the off-field personnel. So, even though Malthouse is at the top of his game now, he would struggle to walk straight in to a lower team and achieve instant success. When he took over at Collingwood in 2000, he got them up to the Grand Final in 2002 (which is in his third season), and didn't win a flag until 2010.

While it has been a tough year for players, coaches and us, the supporters, seeing what Bailey is like behind the scenes gives us great insight to his coaching ability. It was pretty clear on Friday night that he has the respect of the players, and when everything falls in to place, he has a very strong team that is going places. We just need the players to be consistent, which will come.

I don't know that this is the plan all the time, but I think you're right, yeah.

DB makes a comment that supports this view when Jones wins the footy in the centre of the ground and kicks to Carlton defenders at the top of our forward 50:

"we've got nothing to kick to"

Interesting video.

I found it amusing that while I'm in the stands getting frustrated at certain things DB is airing the same frustrations up there in the coaches box.

Exactly what I took from it too.

Pretty much how I saw it too.

It is obviously a tactic, but not necessarily implemented at all times, and a sound one considering our lack of tall targets.

Obviously it did work well for us when we did have a tall target to kick to in the F50, as we kicked a fair chunk of our goals crumbing off a contest.

Fairly certain (if we saw the same footage) that it was Nick Maxwell and that he mentioned how Mick Malthouse has said in the past that it takes 6, 7, 8 years to fully realise your image of the club, as a coach.

I think we would see that with Bailey, if he is given the chance.

Personally, I'd sign him up now.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
