Obviously it wasn't the dream debut for young Dan... as he came on when the game was dead and buried.

But I'd just like to point out that in just over a quarter, he had the fourth most tackles of any Demon with 4. Only McKenzie, Sylvia and Jetta had more. Yep, he tackled more in one quarter than 17 other teammates did in an entire game. Speaks volumes. *Edit, apologies to Green and Moloney. They had 7 each.

Must get a guernsey next week.

We picked the wrong Captain!

No heart, No desperation, No leadership. Just went about slow as treacle, like he and bruce used to do. Cheap kicks off half back and go slowly sideways without conviction. Thats not the way to lead. It's safety first. Survival, thats what he's showing the kids.

Yep and will not be sub. Liked when he bumped murphy over to. Showed some real aggression, Will fit in nicely with Sylvia and moloney.

Should start next week and should be in front of blokes like Morton, Bennell etc.

Worst captain of the MFC ever, Leading Teams is a dud, Green is so far out of his depth it aint funny. Everyone tells me you cant have Sylvia as captain he is a loose cannon, but he is the only player we have that can lift his team mates through his actions. Green will not be captain next year, he may even not be at Melbourne.

I kind of agree but this is about Dan Nicholson.

Also give him and Evans better numbers!

The MFC has squandered a year and maybe players to GWS by sacking our captain to early. The football department grossly underestimated Juniors importance. The MFC doesn't handle our champions very well.

I'm still perplexed as to why you would start a first gamer as a sub. Should have got him into the game earlier, give him a chance to show what he's got at this level, which appears might be quite a bit. Another ordinary decision match committee.

Having their time again, knowing that Bruce would leave, I would be stunned if they would stand by that decision. Even the most stubborn at the club would regret this I think. I also get the feeling that this put a lot of players off side.

Yeh mate, reckon you are onto something here.

So what a great servant and one of their mates got shafted by the club, get over it, plenty of worse things in the world to get upset about.

Life aint fair move on.

At the end of the day, if this decision is impacting on their football then they are just hurting themselves. How will the football world remember players like Brad Green, Aaron Davey, Cameron Bruce et al???

How will the football world remember Jonathan Brown???

The players should think about this if they are not playing for the coach. Life is short, life as an AFL footballer is even shorter.

Nicholson was OK, but I reckon he will be replaced by Trengove next week. Newton and Morton are the two who deserve to be dropped but they will not be due to Essendon's height and Morton being highly favoured for some inexplicable reason. I wasn't aware of his tackling stats but I still reckon he will be the bunny.

But Essendon will run us off our feet if we lose some of our speed.

nor Cam Bruce

Please don't re-write history to suit your angst with Bruce. He did once. In 2004 he kicked 7 goals, 25 possessions and got 3 Brownlow votes when Melbourne beat Carlton by 105 points.

Squandered the year??

What a joke!

So, if Junior was still playing we'd have been contending for a flag, would we?

Nice on, genius.

It looks to me that the match comittee was concerned about the side being Too inexperienced. So to not be too immature, we went in with Morton and Bennell and left out Howe and subbed Nicholson. I suppose they didn't want to hurt Morts & bennies feelings as well.

Some of the players are offside with Junior going.

There's a few intersting points you've made there. And you've mentioned J Brown.

We've seen the damage thats happened to the Lions by the savagery that the Lions footy dept did when they tried to refresh the List.. they shopped around a few players who ended up leaving overa 2 year period. But the sourness at the club remained. It effected their club fabric and comraderie. They tried to blame it on Fev, but he was just an innocent bystander in the whole sordid tale. What a mess.

In our situation, list management is not Bailey's call, but he would have one say amongst the rest. And then be left to sell the Idea to the world. For me I only miss Junior, he was Key for us over the last 2 seasons, a dynamo.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
