Changes for next week vs Carlton

I'm getting over the talk of "x player isn't ready". If they are playing Casey seniors, and have done so for most of the year, and especially those that were there last year too, they are ready given our injury situation. The Gold Coast boys are far from ready, but one thing about them is that you know they are having a red hot crack. That said, they have to have shown SOME form at Casey to be considered. That's why I think Blease, Howe and maybe Gawn have to come in.

I called for the dropping of Davey on Saturday night, if this doesn't happen, the call for him to become the substitute is right on the money. That would be a massive kick in the guts to him, and will give him about 40 minutes to prove himself. Sadly, given our track record, our subs are currently playing 95% game time anyway - bloody 1st quarter injuries!

I'd be OK with that. If he was the sub: and we brought in say Nicholson, we could run Nicholson for 2 - 3 Qtrs, then Sub davey on. For whoever is struggling.

I think Howe shoult be given a go, for Pettered, who has been disappointing over the last 2 - 3 weeks. I'm a Petterdf fan, & I must say I'm unhappy the way Ricky seems to be approaching things this Year. It's like he has switched attitudes with Maric. Marics having a Go. And looks like he's loving it.

No, Newton was worse. Appallingly bad. Should join Dunn in the 'doesn't deserve another game for a minimum of 10 weeks' file.

Newton laid one effective tackle. I can't recall a single effective thing Bate did. Really though, this is like discussing the merits of a poo sandwich vs a urine-on-the-rocks.

A Lineup for Carlton

BL/ Clint Bartram, Matthew Warnock, James Frawley

HB/ Joel MacDonald, Jared Rivers, Jamie Bennell

CL/ Brad Green, Colin Sylvia, Jordan Gysberts

HF/ Nathan Jones, Matthew Bate, Jack Watts

FF/ Liam Jurrah,Michael Newton, Addam Maric

Rck: Stefan Martin, Brent Moloney, Jordie McKenzie

Int: Neville Jetta, Michael Evans, Jeremy Howe,,,,, (Sub: Aaron Davey)

Four debutants and a second gamer?

Four debutants and a second gamer?

Probably over doing it!

I think Newton was better than Bate and Jurrah.

Jurrah has runs on the board but Bate doesn't - he has received 'worst on ground' votes from MMM commentary the last two matches he's played, including our massive win over Adelaide. Furthermore, Bate can't jump, so he can't help out in the ruck either.

I would add Petterd to that list. Yes Newton had a brainfade but he kicked two and pressured. Brainfade aside what is the angst he is copping and why is more of it not aimed at Petterd and Bate?

Yeah, fair call - I could have popped him in too.

Hee  !!!

Right emo

I really don't care who plays as long a Newton never does again. He is a terrible and dumb footballer, and it reflects badly on the club that he gets a game at AFL level.

Absolutely he just doesn't cut it at AFL standard! The bloke is a peanut!

What does that say about us then if he keeps getting selected?

Urine on the rocks wins.

Agreed, Petterd has managed to get off very lightly for what was a weak effort.

However, Newton's game was worse than just a brainfade. His body work is just non-existent (that marking contest against Gwilt was shocking).

Laying one tackle and attempting to lay another does not contitute 'pressure'. I do recognise that he chases and tries, which is more than Bate did, but there is so much more wrong with Newton's game than just brainfades.

Were Strauss' couple of games that forgettable?

I'd play Macdonald in a defensive mid or fwd role like he started last week, we can't have Warnock, Rivers, Macdonald and Bartram all in the backline.

I've posted this before - I think we should try Wonna in the backline - his kicking skills would be very useful. I think Davey should be dropped and subject to Wonna's fitness he should play back in that role.

Strauss needs to come in for Tapscott - it's his chance.

Back 6 if they're all fit: Frawley, Warnock, Rivers, Bartram, Strauss, Wonna - it's 2 changes which will be unsettling, but I think it's necessary.

Someonme has to ruck with Martin, the only possible replacement for Newton is Gawn.

It's Petterd or Bate who are replaceable by Howe.

I don't think Friday night is the right time to play too many debutants.

I was actually thinking about that the other day ala Leon Davis. He's got a big body to play as a strong defender and no doubt he's quick off the mark so could be quite handy.

Doubt it will happen though.

As bailey has already mentioned.. Davey will not be dropped. We all know why he's been underperforming, he simply cant shake a tag. And the lack of support from his team mates around the contests does not help his cause. If he gets dropped.. He will not be tagged in the VFL.. He will absolutely dominate. Probably racking up 40+ possessions. Sure, it will be a confidence boost. But i can assure everyone, once promoted again, he will be tagged and his impact will be erased once again. He needs to learn to break a tagger.. And the only way he can learn to do that is by persisting. Otherwise i suggest putting him in the forward line, where he originally started his career and made a name for himself. He's an intelligent, highly skilled player, who's talents would be wasted in the vfl. He will bounce back in a big way! He's too proud of a player not to.

2 Changes

Pettard or Bate will be dropped for Howe.

Strauss or Bleese in for Tapscott.

Davey to be Sub.

Is Blease injured?

I notice he is not on the injury list but in the "Pick your Best 22" it states he is injured.

Blease is okay, Strauss got cleaned up by Dunn in training before the Wet Toast game IIRC

He will not be tagged in the VFL.

Of course he will, Williamstown care about winning and will want to negate Casey's best player.

unfortunately my gut feel tells me that there will only be one change for the Blues match.

As much as I would like to see Davey at Casey I doubt it will happen.

The coaching staff need wins now will not be the time to give inexperienced players a run.

That being the case then who will replace Tapscott?

It is probably Morton.

After I looked at the Casey players from two weeks ago he is the player with the most skill/ experience at present.

The selection committee will probably make 4 changes and I will look silly again.

I'm changing my team

In Scully no stuffing around at Casey as per the MFC website if he is fit play him on Friday night. Start him as a Sub. This guy is a machine he will be fit enough, if you bring Morton straight back into your side after injury, Scully is a dead certainty if fit.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
