I think the experiment of Davey in the midfield is over. We are getting to the point where we have a surplus of skilled outside mids who can use their kicking to set up play. He needs to get back to what made him a star. Play as a small forward and tackle everything in sight. 2 tackles from him today is just embarrassing. He's gone from a terrier to a toy poodle.

I do not question his place in the leadership group. He is a huge contributor off the field and a mentor to many of our young players, but if anything, this makes his onfield antics even more damning. He has taken on the responsibility to show these young men how to go about things, and this is the example he sets. Imagine if Wheelan were still at the club! What would he be thinking rightn ow?

Davey needs to be dropped and left out in the cold to find his mojo again. He needs to understand that his job begins with pressuring his opponent, not standing in the open spaces waiting for someone to give him a perfect pass so he can show off his sublime kicking skills. Time for him to get his knees dirty again.

Davey has a real impact with our indigenous boys. Davey is a leader for the brotherhood and the general side. It was no surprise to see Jurrah have a poor outing. Jurrah and the boys really feed off our indigenous leader, and Davey did little to inspire the boys today.

I hope this is a one off from Aaron, who is still a class player at this level. A week for him to cool his heels at Casey might be nice, but we are not in a position to demote with the monster injury list that we have.

Davey is our most devastating player and someone who can destroy oppositions but this isn't the first time he has rolled over. Culture has been mentioned many times and it is time for Davey to be dropped. We are injury hit and short of numbers. No bigger message then send Davey to Casey for a fortnight.

Something was def troubling him today. We were essentially playing one man short the way he went about it today. If he pulled his finger out today we would have won.

A hard call but here I go - Aaron embarrassed our great jumper today. And yes, I know it was our away strip (which I like by the way) but it is still representing our club. I cannot believe that squib moment. It took me back to me being a young skinny 17 yo playing in the country in the twos, and being given "the talk" by our vice captain after a similar moment. As and elite AFL sportsman, as a leader, as the leader of the indigenous boys, as a representative of the oldest and best footy club in Australia: Aaraon failed in every aspect and I reckon would be feeling low at the moment. I hate kicking people while they are down and he has given me a whole reel full of highlights but the MFC cannot let his effort today be accpeted in any way. 2 weeks minimum at Casey and no elevation until he shows some grunt.

At his best he is too valuable for us but he has shown nothing of this this year, culminating in a very soft, timid and ticker-less game of football.

He had one or two touches to quarter time & should have been moved to play as a deep forward or asked to do his own tagging role to get him into the game. Whilst I wasnt happy with his performance today, I'm wondering if he is frustrated with the role he is being asked to play.

Either put him back in a forward pocket for the major bulk of the game or send him to Casey. Only two choices.

I would like to see him go back and work on the basics with emphasis on the defensive side of his game.

If he can't cop a tag then he shouldn't be out there. Plain and simple. AFL level footballers should expect hard, uncompromising attention from the opposition every time they take to the field.

Good games, bad games are one thing, but the contest he squibbed on the half forward flank was as bad as it gets. I'm sorry, but a first gamer gets excused. A vice captain? Bye bye to Casey. No other choice. If we don't, we're not fair dinkum.

What Bailey needs to do is grab the whole lot of them, sit them down, show the vision of Judd on friday night with a dodgy ankle still charge out of the centre, put his body on the line, chase and tackle and grit his teeth and play through the pain. And say to the list, that is courage, that is strength of mind and strength of character, then he should point to them all and give Davey a steely look and ask who thought they did that.

I agree with Luke Darcy on the coverage that Davey was looking for an excuse by getting trainers to look at his knee etc. Either go off or go hard, there is no in between!

He made his name as a flashy goal sneak who chased down defenders. He can be a damaging player as a mid but all clubs have figured him out. He has never handled a tag well & it makes me wonder why they continuously play him there when he hasn't bee able to overcome a tag in 2 years or more. He will never be an inside ball winner. Playing him as a mid IMO was always a stop gap because we had no one else that could kick the ball with precision. I agree that he probably needs to be dropped, however I think the FD need to assess the way the game is moving & find a more adequate position.

He can't free himself of a tag by gut running & isn't able to win his own ball. That makes him easy to shut down. The fact that he is small & easily intimidated also makes me think he should be used in the midfield sparingly & returned to the forward line where he can use his pace & agility more to his advantage. Yeh he had an atrocious game we are all agreeing that, but what is the solution to get him out of this funk?

Anything less than being dropped to Casey will show a complete lack of spine from this football club. His squib effort was only matched in embarrassment by his 2 first half disposals. A shadow of the player he once was.

I wish I knew the answer. You really do have to wonder what effect the big fat four year deal has had on him, though.

We need more hard, take-no-prisoners types at this club.

I'd prefer to have someone with a quarter of Aaron's skill in the side who plays like there's no tomorrow.

I think he should go back, and not (only) for the performance but for his attitude, it was disgraceful today and appears to have been in decline for a while. Today he lost a lot of respect, I suspect this will hurt him, I really hope it does. This is one of the non negotiables.

I would like to see him become the hunter again. Back to basics, become a defensive forward or wingman, a dozen possessions, half a dozen tackles.

Enough of the knocking - as always, the ultimate responsibility lies with the coaching staff - their role is to get the best out of all players. It is the coaching staff who need to find the solution to problems and the help for players - that's what they are paid for!

With the season in the balance, we need our leaders to lead. Seems like the only leaders we have week in and week out are Sylvia and Moloney.

We have just watched this side drop 2 games to non-finals teams. This season is starting to look like it is going to be another embarrassment for the club.
