Depending on how serios Grimes injury is and he misses which Im assuming he will does Rivers jsut come back in for him depending if he has recovered.

I wouldnt make any other changes. Bate needs game time and should stay and I think Dunn did ok in the ruck when he was out in there.

Reckon the backline might be a bit top heavy if Rivers were to come back in without dropping one of the other talls, however I have a feeling that Warnock will make way for him even though he played a decent game.

Need to protect Mark Jamar, he is such a gun. And if Dunn is going to recapture the form of late 2010, he needs to go back to being defensive forward who kicks goals, rather than 192cm ruckman.

Martin brought back in for Bate perhaps?

Bennel second best on ground in VFL is great attitude to getting sent back to VFL, so if Grimes in injured...

Rivers is in the leadership group and is definitely best 18, so he comes straight back in

Morton needs to get in the best in the VFL for 2 weeks in a row before being re-considered

OUT: Warnock (unlucky), Bate, Grimes (Inj)

IN: Rivers, Martin, Bennel

Maybe Joel could better come in for Jack G depending on the fitness of all.

In: Martin (have to support Jamar!), Bennell

Out: Bate (unlucky but definitely our worst today), Grimes (inj)

I know we won by nearly 100 points, but I hope Bailey still makes changes to make sure we don't become complacent. Pressure for spots is so important.

dont think you can have all of Rivers, Warnock, Garland and Frawley in the same team. I think Warnock is the ideal matchup for Petrie so i think he might be safe.

For me the only change will be

OUT - Grimes

IN - Morton/Jetta

Jamar needs more relief in the ruck, whether it is from Dunn or a player like Martin, Newton or Spencer I am not sure.

Macdonald will come in for Grimes if he is still injured.

i agree with this, spencer has been good for casey could play up forward maybe... dont think anyone comes back after one good game in the VFL

Out Grimes (Injured)

In Rivers or MacDonald depending on matchups...

On current form Petrie would tear Warnock apart. Our best has to go to him and that would be Garland. If Warnock stays in (which I think he should) he would get Goldstein or Hansen/Pedersen. He still gives away too many free kicks in front of goal, but he needs to play more because we look stronger and takes pressure of Chip. He is a great contested mark. I wish he would back himself in more contests.

Out: Grimes, Dunn

In: Rivers, Martin

We can't have 4 talls against North in my opinion so:

OUT: Grimes (inj), Warnock

IN: MacDonald, Bennell

Jamar needs more relief in the ruck, whether it is from Dunn or a player like Martin, Newton or Spencer I am not sure.

Macdonald will come in for Grimes if he is still injured.

Agree, we cannot rely on Jamar to ruck the whole game. Having said that North are running with Goldstein only at the moment with Petrie playing full time forward so it is a possibility.

Warnock stays in for mine. He is a true defender and with him marking Petrie, Frawley will be free to run off half back like he did today.

In: Martin, Rivers (if fit)

Out: Bate (unlucky), Grimes (inj)

B: Tapscott, Warnock, Rivers

HB: Bartram, Frawley, Garland

C: Bail, Moloney, Jones

HF: Davey, Dunn, Green

F: Jurrah, Watts, Petterd

Foll: Jamar, Sylvia, Trengove

I/C: Gysberts, Maric, Martin, Wonaeamirri

Probably right..

Reckon the backline might be a bit top heavy if Rivers were to come back in without dropping one of the other talls, however I have a feeling that Warnock will make way for him even though he played a decent game.

I think that would be a mistake to drop Warnock. with grimes out and rivers out, it shuffled our defence and we put Bartram into the mids for Bail going back. It worked, so I wouldn't move it around too much as the balance and symmetry was very good. The run from the back was fluent and confident.

A lot of this was due to the confidence of Warnock playing his role.. Bate pushed hard up the ground and was very helpfull all round the place. He went in harder than I remember him, but still needs to go harder yet. Especially to spoil.

Bail's run out of the back was great, and Davey to helped heaps.

If Rivers is fit, he takes Warnock's place. Warnock for mine was nothing special, and Rivers has been playing well this year. No need to get sentimental about it, Warnock only played because Rivers couldn't, and I didn't see anything from Warnock that made me think he ought to stay in the side.

I also think Martin should come in. IMO he should never have been dropped, and with Goldstein and Petrie waiting (decent rucks), I don't want Jamar to have to do it all himself again.

Because of those changes Bate stays, but he didn't play well and doesn't really deserve much more of a chance.

In: Martin, Rivers

Out: Warnock, Grimes (inj.)

Out - grimmes

In - Martin

I liked the balance with Grimes in the midfield, so I would replace him with a midfielder, from the sound of it Bennell was good, but would like to see an hard tackling inside player, maybe Jetta if he played well today.

I think anyone would be unlucky to be dropped after today, but I want Martin back to support Jamar, so either Bate or Dunn would have to go. Dunn was better than Bate, but he hasn't had a great year, and Bate should get more than one game to prove himself, so Dunn out.

Not exactly like for like. Why should Martin come in? Jamar put in far more draining performances last year and came up fine the next week. Dunn rucked most of the last quarter, and Jamar can handle himself.

In: MacDonald

In:Bennell,

Out: Grimes(inj)

I thought Bater played his role today, he presented and made a defender chase him on the lead, and created an opening behind him, I was quite surprised at half time when it showed he had only a couple of touches, i thought he had played a much better role than that.

Weird logic, this, leading to a preposterous conclusion. The better player to be dropped, just so the worse may 'prove himself'? Is this team trying to win football matches? May I humbly suggest that if Dunn has not had a great year, Bate has had an even less great year, and continued in this fashion today?

Kangas have killed us in recent times due to their massive forwardline. Next week's a time to go top heavy if ever there was.

Martin should come in, as I think that Jamar could use the support of a bigger backup ruckman and one of them will be resting in the forward line. One of Bate and Dunn will need to make way for him. Dunn was marginally better all round including helping out in the ruck, but about the same as Bate up forward, so I could see either of them being dropped for Martin. I'd like to see Bate given more than one game to see where he is at, so Dunn gets dropped after a few average games.

What did Warnock do to warrant missing the next game? Held his opponent and used the ball well, plus having that mature body helps.

If Grimes is injured then Rivers or MacDonald to come in. Wouldn't be overly sad to see Bater go either, although again a bigger body in the forward line helps.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
