Jack Watts was good especially in the 1st half and he is showing improvement every week.

Jurrah was exciting and Jones goal was great.

Moloney just showed class in game.

I want to see Brad hold that Emblem up to the crowd more, if it fires up the passion of the whole team then look out.

Was proud of our captain today....i was worried he did not have the captaincy in him, but he broke a few sheckles today.

Follow up against North Brad, You know we are a better team than they are. Time to smash North.

And even Bate, who was clearly W.O.G for us (worst.on.ground), tried hard. The 3 consecutive tackles he put on early in the last (I think) were awesome.

It was late in the game and we were up by 90, so you could be excused for giving a token chase, but to see him go that hard and commit in that way showed how much it means to him to get back into this 22. Conditions didn't really suit Big Red today, but he tried hard and deserves another crack at it next week i think, if only for the heart and effort shown in that one single piece of play.

The Good:

Where to start?

*Increased forward pressure.

*Winning clearances and contested ball (Beamer take a bow, 19 clearances!).

*Having dangerous marking options up forward (Petterd is such a potent weapon in there with his contested marking ability).

*Tackling, tackling, tackling!

*Colin Sylvia.

*Maric had 30 touches and looked like he belonged.

*Watts' improved hunger for the contest (not just a one-off against WCE).

*The skipper, Brad Green.

*Dean Bailey comprehensively outpointing his opposition coach in game-day tactics (!!!!!!!!!)

The Bad:

*Neil Craig.

Much has been written/discussed in the media about how to stop Melbourne & our 'transition-based' game plan, etc. in recent times, and the general consensus has been to beat us you: tag Davey and give him absolutely no space; try to curb Moloney's influence around the stoppages; play a strong physical 'body-on-body' game on Jurrah (i.e. don't let him get a free jump at the high ball, ever); and Crow midfielders to read Jamar's taps as he's likely to win the majority.

To my great surprise, Craig implemented none of these things. When Davey had all that space to pick up countless uncontested possesions and hurt with his disposal, early on, i thought he might place a tag on him. But it never did eventuate and Davey was back to his blistering best. Moloney was left unattended in the centre square and cleared the ball at will, nearly breaking the record for clearances in a match. Their midfielders were not able to effectively read/shark Jamar's ruckwork in the way other sides have been able to this year. And Jurrah was able to take a few trademark leaping marks with very little body pressure. Neil Craig was outcoached and outgunned, IMO mainly due to his own reluctance to follow Hawthorn and West Coast's lead (in exposing the best way to dismantle our structures).

*No 2nd ruckman is playing with fire with our most important player, Mark Jamar. Needs backup, badly.

The Ugly:

*That it took such a pathetic, insipid performance in Perth and the subsequent caning they got from it for the team to pull their fingers out and actually play the game. Definitely hope this match sets the tone for the rest of the season.

The Serald Hun is saying 18 was the record, previously held by Shaun Burgoyne and Sam Mitchell.

Whatever the case may be, it was a stellar game from Moloney.

Other highlights for me were Jurrah's last quarter steal / goal, Tapscott's long bomb, and several sublime and silky passages from Davey.

Everywhere else has been saying that Paul Salmon holds the record with 22, 18 was the 2nd place.

No-one should be dropped IMO .

Even my brother inlaw who prefers rugby to football came over late in the game and of course loves to hang it on me about the Demons .

1st thing he says is the scores must be back to front .

2nd thing he says with 10 minutes left the Crows can still win it to which I replied we can kick another 10 .

Was laughing at him everytime another sailed through . You could tell they wanted that 100pt margin .

Then he noted Bates effort , "Wow , look at that bloke , almost got a triple throat rip." in reference to some movie he just watched .

You could also see the blokes brought back into the side really wanted to show they deserved their place .

Can only be a good thing from now on .... Hopefully .

Highlights for me was the 4 qr Game .

The pressure put on the Crows .

Watts getting just bit better every week , ran his opponent off his legs .

Trengoves tackle on Dangerfield (even though hes in my SC side)

Tappy being Tappy .

Jurrah being Jurrah .

Jamar to Moloney.

Sylvia playing like he should .

Why was Petterd dropped ?

Matthew Bate should get a game next week, sure he was a bit rusty at that tempo but he did contest and lay tackles. Our forward 50 pressure today was spot on from the first bounce.

Not a great Bater fan but i suspect he might have played a bit sore after a early hit. He at least contested very hard and i love the fact that we have 3 hard bodied forwards in Dunn,Petterd and Bate against North next week. They usually monster us but i'm confident Beamer,Tappy and co will show Firrito and the rest we mean business !

The Good...1. Beamer breaking tackles and dodging and weaving on the members wing in the 3rd, before delivering lace out to the half forward line.

2. Jonesy's tackle breaking, dummy selling 40 metre goal...never more deserved.

Melbourne has a big challenge next week against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium against a team that thinks it owns us. A win in that sort of game can provide some legitimacy and respect to the team. Some of this was restored in the effort against Adelaide but greater consistency will remove the ugly stigma of the curse of Pattersons Stadium.

The key word is "legitimacy". A great win, especially as it proves that we're not as bad as we've shown up until yesterday. But to gain legitimacy & respect, the performance has to be there regularly.

The win by Bailey today was emphatic (if you're gunna blame him for the loss last week you have to pat him on the back today), but I'd be worried if I was a Bulldog, Lion or Crow supporter, I wonder whether they will get the same "crisis" treatment this week !

Shouldn't be blamed for last weeks game nor should he be congratualted on this weeks win or you have to blame him for our inconsistency into his fourth year. And that is the porblem. It is hard to see evidence of him having impact on game day other than some ordinary coaching of a group of young kids.

Add to the ugly the AFL for making that a suspension.

Put Beamer back in the leadership group tonight. Just Do It!
