Firstly let me say that the work done by the club in regard to building/improving, its connectedness and its unique place in the game has been great. Interpreting the clubs history in a new emblem gets a big tick, so does the return to darker colours.

It was great to see Jim out on the ground in round 1 raising the "grand old flag".

The flag raising/unfurling should not occur at every home game IMO. On ground flag raising has an important place in the our game and is associated to my mind with winning premierships. I think as the year goes on and especially if it turns pear shaped this will leave the club, players and fans open to derision.

Interested to hear what others think, even if somoene has a contrary view?

Geelong barely sung their song when they were winning (and they still are), we have to raise a flag to celebrate the momentus occasion of a regulation home and away victory.

Further to that, we have a velvet clad trumpeter. Setting ourselves up for ridicule.

It's too much. It's supposed to be an added bit of intimidation for the opposition to remind them that it's our home ground, but the reality is it's a sad little ceremony that got tired after the first time.

Although I haven't seen it, I'm not a fan of the flag raising.

I'm still in the minority that want to see the bugle boy stay. It's happening, and we want to make the MCG a feared place for opposition teams to walk on, so instead of bitching about it, how about all supporters get behind it and make it work?

If you feel that strongly about it, come up with a different idea and notify the Club.

Sorry ADC, I thought with all the Davey-bashing after last weeks game that there would surely be an Aussie-bashing thread for doing the same thing yesterday. 2nd quarter, about 3 minutes to go, ball on our half back flank, Aussie waving his hands up and down trying to slow the play down.

Must have been watching a different game - my mistake.

Not a fan of the flag raising before or after the game. Given it sits atop a piddly tempory flagpole at ground level in a stadium it's hardly likely to be seen anyway. It did cross my mind that perhaps it could be flown on the scoreboard instead of the current one, new emblem on white ensign, which is a bit plain. It would be good if we cold display our 12 premiership flags somewhere at home games, the atrium on level two of the Olympic could work.

I am completely meh about the trumpeter but as someone as said - all clubs play to win the "flag". Do we not all ask " how many FLAGS have you won ?".

There is only one flag that we should make a song and dance about each season and thats the premiership flag

Fly the Flag during our home games...No problem, but please do not have a ceremony raising it each week.

Leave that for the elusive 13th, 14th, 15th, 16, & 17th......etc B)

Incredibly embarassing. As the original post said the raising of flags in football has a special place in the history of the game - this just highlights how awful we have been for the last 40 years.

If possible the raising after the game was even worse. I know it was a rubbish win but if a win doesn't get you excited without having to have additional gimmicks then you may as well be at home watching on TV.

I usually grab a beer and some chips before the bounce so It doesn't bother me. If it bothers you join me at the bar and have a cold one.

keep the trumpet. the flag i'm not really sold on. With the trumpet,the flag and the banner i think we have enough pre game rituals and most of us are getting beer at that time anyway.

We've only done this in front of 200 lions supporters, and Sydney supporters who probably missed it because they were knitting.

Can the lot of it now before an actual opposition crowd witnesses it.

I shudder to think about sitting there watching that in an MCG full of Pies or Hawks supporters, how embarrassing.

Get rid of it.
