The good news about this team selection from Melbourne's point of view is that our injury list is diminishing with three of four players listed as "test" being passed fit. In addition, Tom McNamara has also come off the injury list and has been selected to play in the Casey twos. Jeremy Howe is the only player listed as a "test" on the injury list not selected so Melbourne now has only six players out of action:-

Robert Campbell (achilles) - 6-8 weeks

Troy Davis (thyroid disorder) - ongoing

Jeremy Howe (ankle) - 1 week

Jordie McKenzie (groin) - 5 weeks

Cale Morton (hand) - 1 week

Tom Scully (knee) - 3 weeks *

Casey has a couple of handy small men missing in skipper Kyle Matthews and Danny Nicholls.

I would have gone if they played this on Saturday afternoon but a trip out to Casey Fields on a Saturday night is a bit of a stretch.

* probably longer according to some reports.

Meanwhile, Brendan Fevola was sent off the ground in his first outing with new club Narre Warren. He received a yellow card and was sent from the field with three minutes left in the match for "scrapping with a Noble Park opponent who was also yellow carded and headed for the bench with a bloodied mouth."

Fevola kicked three goals two behinds.

Great news! Go scorps!

What was the reason for the turn around?

This might sound trite but the Scorps took over completely in the ruck and the midfield and gave Geelong no chance. Gysberts and Aussie were superb. Maxy Gawn's ruckwork was excellent. They didn't score until late in the quarter and that was just a couple of points.

Comfortable 27 point win to the Scorps in the end.

Casey Scorpions 1.1.7 4.6.30 8.13.61 13.14.92

Geelong 5.2.32 7.6.48 7.8.53 9.11.65

Jordan Gysberts got a lot of it in the middle. Aussie had a very good game, especially after half time and Juice booted five goals.

Must go to a function I'm about an hour late for but will fill in some details if I can later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Wow, 9.8 to 2.5 in the last half! Can't wait for the details.

Good win by the Scorps.

Players that stood out to me:-

Jordan Gysberts - Got a heap of the ball, could get a call up next week.

Michael Evans - Got better as the game went on, looks like a player.

Tom McDonald - Love him! Needs to work on his kicking but reads it so well, great mark, moves well. Will get a call up this year, I'm tipping.

Max Gawn - Getting better every time I see him, took some nice contested grabs, good ruck work but will need time.

Aussie - Played a real good game, moved into the midfield In the 2nd half and made a big influence.

Kelvin Lawrence - Was flashy but a bit wasteful, could have kicked 3 or 4 but missed a few opportunities. Bright pink boots!

They were my best for Casey.

I know a few will ask about Sam Blease - My opinion on Bleasey is that he always does 3 or 4 great things during a game. He goes on a long run or a great chase or kicks a long running goal from 50 but apart from that you don't see him much. Needs to work on finding more of the ball which I'm sure he will as hes still young and hasnt played a heap of footy. Definitely has a bright future.

All sounds good. Competition for senior spots will make the team play better.

Thanks J-Riv & KC appreciated.

A total of 14 Demons played for Casey in tonight's game with Joel Macdonald being the only emergency player missing and therefore likely to fill the role tomorrow.

Aussie is a footballing talent. I would like to see him in the side ASAP. I think this is important for him to get another taste at the moment.

I also went and I think.

Tom McDonald will be a beauty as the year goes on.

Wonna lit up the midfield, got the Scorps going.

Newton, well blow me down, chased, made some great leads, total change from last year.

Blease, christ he can run but agree with an earlier post tends to flow in and out.

Gawn, now here is a prospect in the making when he gets over his injuries and grows into his body, hell could be our best ruckman that we have had for many years (sorry Jamar) he is a very good tap ruckman.

Gysberts coming along after a slow start to the season.

Bate, what a shadow of a footballer don't know what will happen to him throughout the season.

And to the Casey boys well done to all of you.

I like the thought of wonna in the midfield, hope Gysberts will play soon. Blease just needs game time. I wonder if Newton is starting to show something?

Newton 5 goals. Good on you Juice, take your opportunity.

It's good the Juice is playing well, because with the new ruck rule we won't be able to play Jamar or Spenser or Gawn in the same team. One of Juice and Martin will be in the team throughout the year, and if they can contribute around the ground that will be important.

I'd love to see Wona and Gysberts play 15+ games this year to continue their developement.

I'd like to see Blease get 8+ games to start his development.

I wouldn't be against McDonald and Evans play 3-4 games this year to get a taste. Hopefully Howe if he can come on as well.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
