Clearly I am too!

He's not nippy enough for a wing.

Is it just me ? From Sundays match I didnt see the same lack of pace that has now been mentioned twice.

I think that Jonesy can lumber a bit late in a match ( and he does play the wing) - do you think Tapscott is around the Jones pace mark ?

I just want a REALLY nippy bloke on the wing, like Davey or Blease.

Great hit, but if he had gone for the ball he probably would have prevented an inside 50...

I am ok with it as a first up physical encounter. It sends a clear message that will alter the perception of opponents. Even if the next 10 times when faced with that exact situation, he plays the ball instead of the man; I guarantee there will be some doubt in the mind of the other bloke.

I'd say his current position in the backline has everything to do with his elite kicking skills and our desperate need for clean disposal out of defence.

Also, in light of our seemingly-perpetual kick-in issues, Mr.T is one who can easily clear the centre square, and if allowed to kick-to-himself and play on, he can clear the centre. If we are going to kick to a contest we might as well be 20-40 metres closer to goal

I hear you - REALLY nippy = the two fastest players at our club ( Blease by all reports has pace to burn)

I find this pace discussion fascinating - see my separate thread

I was going to add Bennell to that equation too.

I think we have room for one slower-than-REALLY-nippy wingman, but I expect that role to be taken by someone like Morton.

In my opinion, Tapscott will live on a flank (and I know there's not much difference between a mid and flanker these days, it's just how I see it).

If Tapscott plays back the Geelong player he'd perhaps most resemble is Josh Hunt. Hunt is 185/100 and Tappy is 180/85 so there is a size difference. I must admit I've never been a big fan of Hunt and much preferred James Kelly back there in that role when Hunt was out with his knee injury - but that's at least partly because I don't think Hunt plays very accountable football.

I guess a classic Geelong premiership back 6 looks something like:

Hunt - Tapscott

Scarlett - Frawley

Harley - Rivers

Mackie - Strauss

Taylor - Garland

Enright - Grimes

would be a chance for the rising star

Libba will get it this week.

Overall, however...;)

I have a feeling this guy's going to get the McKenzie treatment from the brains trust over at the Rising Star department.

I hope not, but its early days!

Tappscott is coming along just fine as far as I can see. Really appreciate his attitude and approach for a young bloke. Generally shows maturity ,composure and contribution rate way beyond his years as does Trengove. I'm aware they can make a few blues, but the foundation is strong and errors will decrease over time. Do yourselves a favor, relax and just watch them grow into hopefully really great players for us. Don't think you will be disappointed.

Gotta have the Heart, to gut run, and work his Butt off. That strikes a few out.

So you condemn me for making unfounded statements and in response you make unfounded statements. Go Figure.

Then at the end of it all you agree with me.... I'm confused

Couldn't disagree more. You have no idea.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
