Vickery may have played more gamed than our young ruckman, but I think you will find Vickery is not going anywhere fast. Gawn and Fitzy may eclpise his development next season.

Pass on Vickery. He will be good, but not anytime soon.

Only in order to cover their tall defender shortage.

Thursfile dleaving leaves them with Moore, Rance & McGuane. And lets face it Kelvin Moore's a bit like Joel MacDoanld in that he can play on the talls if you really need him to but he's more of a rebounding running defender.

In the ruck Angus Graham & Andrew Browne are currently ahead of Vickery, and they're experimenting with Post as a 2nd ruck also.

I love these comments about draft picks from the past, say, 3 years.

Tyrone Vickery, a 2nd year player who was selected to play ruck, is currently 3rd in line at Richmond. Ok, let's put this in to some perspective, Max Gawn is a 208cm giant, but currently, he is arguably ranked number 4 ruck for Melbourne behind Jamar, PJ, and Fitzpatrick/Meesen. What you are asking/chasing is virtually the same as another Club coming to us wanting Gawn because he isn't our Number 1 ruckman yet.

Very few young players come straight in and take the role as number 1 in their chosen position. Doesn't mean that the Club, or the player for that matter, wants out just because they haven't come in.

If we really want to trade for a "young" player, you pretty much have to target (roughly) 22 year olds who are proven, but sadly you have to pay big bucks for them. By that stage though, you have a fair idea that they would be worth it.

It's just been reported that Will Thursfield will be seeking a trade out of Richmond which means that they will now be a tall defender down. If you ask me this represents the perfect opportunity for Melbourne to strike and land an ideal 2nd ruckman/forward. Former no 8 draft pick from the same draft as Jack Watts, Tyrone Vickery,

Back in the 2008 draft before Melbouren announced that Watts would be the player they would select with pick no 1 they said they were mainly deciding between Watts, Nik Nat, Rich & you guesed it, Vickery.

Vickery has now had two years under his belt and has been exposed to AFL football. He can ruck & play forward and we know Melbourne obviously rate him highly.

Imagine if we poached Vickery from Richmond, then in a few years even when Jamar has retired we'd have the giant Max Gawn and Vickery & Fitzpatrick battling it out for no 2 ruck role, or Vickery possibly battling Gawn for the no 1 role?

Obviosuly this wouldn't come cheaply, I'm talking of Warnock & Pick 12, we might then get say pick 46 thrown back our way with Vickery, with Richmond now without Thursfield they'll be looking for another key defender & Warnock would walk staright in at Punt rd.

Personally I think I'd be a great get by us and I for one would be fully behind it!

What do others think?

Leave him for one year, then we can make a play if circumstances allow.

I was a massive fan of his during the U-18s,,, this boy can play..... But,,,, we don't need another project Ruck,,, This Year...

Next year after seeing Spencer & we've looked over Gawn,,, Then we may need to get another Ruck. He would be fantastic then,,,,IMO...

BUT,,, right now,,, we need an Insurance policy. Gardiner,,, Charman,,, Cox,,, Jacobs,,,,,,,,Fraser,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hale............

would love Vickery right about now, on our list. missed this bus; because some have preconceived thoughts on some players, when they are young & impressionable.

I think we have to stop being so high & mighty in our biases, & recruit on talent, we can put the tests on them as we go along.

He was very unhappy at Richmond early this year 'dee-luded', not sure if he is a bit more settled now he has made a contribution to the team.

He has talent, but is an enormously dumb footballer. That and the fact that Ben Griffiths can't kick straight, ever, was the reason for Richmond's demise yesterday. Smart footballers who can kick straight only please.

the point I'm making, rjay, is that we could have had Boak, Dangerfield, Vickery, just off the top, & there will be dozens over the last 8 years or so, who were talented, but off the rails or unhappy, for one reason or another... & their clubs were unhappy with them,,, before they had proven anything with they're talents.

.... we do not capitalise on these situations, because of our negativity of taking speculative risks for these types of talent: ...... so we end up with all conservative good boys,,, & a club that butter would not melt in the mouth.

our contacts within the legal profession (telling to not go after),,, IMO, has done this club a lot of damage over the decades.

Let not go back to 2010 please, it just reminds me of the hope we had on a useless list of players.

Vickery was ok yesterday. It was his inept midfield that lost the game after half time

Let's hope Cam Pedersen can play a similar role next year.

he's still inexperienced at AFL level, he's just starting out, & is a very dangerous talent.

we could really use a player of his style at the moment.

well if you want to fix the club, we have to learn where we go wrong, so we don't keep on keeping on,,, you know groundhog day... & I think you guys understand this rebooted thread is about our attitudes, to certain types, footballers.

..... those immature rough headed ones, we try to steer away from. Yes, I believe in a no dirck-head policy, but not before we try them out for a while... to give them & us, a chance.

I think most recently, if I remember correctly, we steered clear of that little Darling Jack, & 'Aston' Martin of the toiges.

# so for those who don't like using they're Rear View mirrors, & in so doing, relinquish any chance of being better drivers, of list management; your wrong not to reflect back on your own choices, & what it was that made you think in that way, to get it so wrong, so to learn, & improve.

He's played 102 games. Maybe a dozen good ones. He's not just starting out.

You can't change dumb. Just to look at some of our young'uns this year who have only played a teen's worth of games. You've either got the smarts or not. Hogan, Brayshaw, Stretch..... it's a hugely underrated quality, and the AFL is littered with big talents who do dumb things too often on game day. Vickery is one of the biggest.

yes he is.

he just finding his feet, & the tiges are only just finding theirs; their culture is getting better, they're learning. and he is following, that learning, as well.

the 102 games is just a coinciding coincidence, its more-so the culture shift within the team, & club under Brendon Gale, Hardwick, & Choco.

That cowardly hit on Big Cox was enough to turn me off him. Dumb and selfish.

so a persons mistake is enough to turn you off, its decisions like this that has made us into a basket case of choir boys, on & off field.

lucky you didn't know me as I went from mummy's boy, to after 9 years of therapy, a road rager for over a couple of years. you know, that over compensation when you get your first bit of self belief in life; you stop attacking yourself inwardly, & you start to get angry outwardly.

.. its development & learning... & personal growth. With that comes some more maturity. No not the maturity disciplined into you at school, or at home, real maturity, from real learning.

that then develops real self disciplines, & real growth, and real understanding of what life's really like, on all sides of the fences. & with that learning comes the " there but for the grace of god, go I " ,,, attitude to others. I am sure Vickery is not a monster . and I'm equally sure he aint the devil either.

Cotchin failing to stand up on the big stage was a huge factor. I kind of expected it from a very overrated footballer.
