No idea how Bennell got votes.

To be honest I probably jumped the gun a bit with my post - I posted it about 7 seconds after the final siren. Should've let the information digest a bit first. Not to worry.

Blah blah blah... Bruce should never be judged by stats, nor should most players, WATCH the game!! This is one of the reasons why people call for Bennell to be dropped every week without realising what he does off the ball.

"Smashed Hodge"???? are you joking? Bruce might have been ok early while being the front runner he likes to be, but at critical stages Hodge more than evened the ledger.

Look, I've loved Bruce's game the last month or so, but he is a SENIOR player not a developing player, today his second efforts were non-existent and his disposal was poor.

You're just plain wrong

A proud Demon here! The boys showed plenty of fight and a bit of grunt.

Not enough out of our forwards today - Jurrah lively early, Aussie bit quiet, Dunn quiet, Watts quiet.

Bruce shanked a few, but surely anyone would have to admit he beat Hodge? Come on!! But IMO today just showed to me that there will still be a lot of change in this side. I could name the usual suspects as players that need to make better use of the ball under pressure, but even Col G shanked one at one stage today.

This game really is sitting badly in the stomach right now, I've a feeling the players would feel exactly the same. I thought the umpires were nothing short of a disgrace, I can't remember one crucial decision going our way, Hawthorn got about 5-6good one's. There is a heap of upside for us and there is no reason why this time next year, we aren't playing a game like today for a spot as high as the top 6.

Thrilling post... care to elaborate or is that the extent of your retort

Sorry Stuie but you have got it all wrong. Going by the votes for Bruce by a HUGE MAJORITY of posters here it seems you are well and truly in the MINORITY group. Sure you can voice your opinion BUT it shows a lack of understanding of Bruce's role and the game in general. Ever played at a senior level? And I don't mean AFL or VFL.

Bruce was OK on Hodge. His kicking wasn't the issue for me today, but rather his reluctance to put his body in at the contest. Too many times he tried to soccer the ball or stand a step away from a pack, instead of diving in. Pretty disappointing from a vice captain in a must-win game.

Jaded, 9 tackles is hardly not putting his body in. I thought he spent a lot of time on the bottom of packs. Have a look at the replay to see what I mean. BTW, you originally gave Bruce 2 votes and then changed your mind and gave him none. Why? Not influenced by 'Stuie' I hope.

Why, are you stupid as well?

Rosebury paid the deliberate rushed behind, McInerney paid the deliberate out of bounds. I can't decide which was worse.

The deliberate out of bounds was worse - a wrong decision (Franklin had more of the ball in rushing it over). The deliberate rushed was wrong IMO (no pressure??) but at least they had the correct player that time.

Soooo... still no actual discussion/explanation then? This is a DISCUSSION board after all, if you want to just reply to people with "You're wrong" etc you might as well go talk about the game in the playground... I'm sorry for not realising we were all meant to think exactly the same on this board of opinions...

But seeing you asked... (well you didn't but thought I'd elaborate for you), I think Bruce had an ok game, but in MY OPINION he shouldn't be in the votes DESPITE what the stats may say. I expected a lot more from him today in the type of game it was, but I THOUGHT he was one of a few that disappeared when he was needed but played well when brought into the game by others.

Now, please understand all you Adolf's on here, that this is not gospel, it's not definitive, but it is MY OPINION, which right or wrong in your minds, I am entitled to express seeing that is the spirit of an open discussion board such as this.

Bruce was 100% in our best 6. His defensive work on Hodge was great (Hodge only had about 18 possessions), his run off half back and through the middle was crucial and he was running right up until the final siren. Yes, some of his kicks were pretty poor but overall he was definitely one of our best.

Bennell was one of our worst IMO. Just doesn't do enough, and I don't know if he's a forward or a defender now.

He just doesn't get involved often enough does he? I really like Jimmy and he starts games with an impact and then is not seen. I'd leave him and give him a go at playing Davey's role for the last two games.

I agree that he is a bit lost at being a defensive player, either as a forward or a backman.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
