Addam Maric

I would love to see addam run around in the red and blue for a couple of games before the end of the year. By all reports he is getting some touches in the magoos and I have always liked him. I though he might have a break out year this year but has struggled to make an impact.

I reckon he needs 2-3 games to show his value. Love to have a little goal sneak in the side like Milne or a La Cras. However I am struggling to find a player to drop for him.

2-3 games might give us some value to shop him around if trade if he doesnt peform.

Where do you guys see Maric's Future?

This weeks review

Addam Maric: Addam kicked three goals. He used the ball very efficiently. He came up the ground and worked off his man and his run forward was lightning. Addam was one of our better players and that’s what we’ve been hoping for.

He has obvious talent but from previous reports it was a case of getting his head in the right frame of mind... He has had quite a few injuries so hopefully he can come good toward the end of the year as many here have waited patiently since he was drafted...

Hasn't had a fair go this year. Has had good form for a while at Casey ahead of Wonna & Jetta. Should be played for 4/5 games so we can see what he's got.

More worried about Strauss getting a couple more games actually.

He's contracted through next year, so there's no hurry. He'll get a run in the seniors when he deserves it.

Then he must be getting very close indeed

He is injured.

He may get in this week based on this past weekends game for Casey....

However, he has not deserved a call up at any point this year. So to so say he has been better than Jetta/Wona is a bit strange. It is obvious how hard Jetta works defensively and Wona can take an overhead mark.

Two tricks Maric doesn't have.

However I agree that he should see a game or 2 near the end, or even this week.

I just want consistent effort. Because almost everytime ive seen him he seems far to interested in what he is doing, rather than how the team is doing...

It's the same reason I always had issues with Robbo and to a lesser extent Yze.

he could feel a little aggrieved when Wona got a game in Darwin when he clearly was underdone and not exactly setting the world on fire.

I would like to see him given more than a couple of games, just like a lot of other youngsters have had.

Can't see any reason to play him this week. Who does he come in for? Bennell was good on the weekend. He doesn't play the same role as Bate does. Can't take Moloney's spot either. And we might have Trengove and McDonald coming back anyway.

1 or 2 good games for Casey isn't enough.

Then he must be getting very close indeed

I should clarify.

"Deserving" a game isn't a simple as being named in the best for Casey. You have to also deserve the spot more than an incumbent player. At this stage, there is no position in the forward line that Maric deserves more than the incumbents.

Im sure the coaching staff has told him to work on certian parts of his game. I have no idea what these are. When these get ticked I am sure he might bob up for a game or two.

Just hope he takes this chance as our forward line is getting pretty full.

Small forward postion:

Bennell

Wona

Jetta

Maric

anyone else?

Also we might see more davey in the role in a couple of years

I thought he might come on this year as well, but he seems to be a bit moody with his attitudes.

Now he seems to be trying again, & did well this last game.

I should clarify.

It's about development. If the club deems it's good for his development as an AFL player he'll play, possibly this week. You can't tell me Watts "deserved" a game but has it been good for his "development", absolutely.

As such youre right...but there is a caveat as mentioned by another and thats development. We arent going to play in september. We are building a team and in that process we need to get players playing with each other and on the big stage. Bailey will want to see how various combinations gel and I would be rather surprised if Maric didnt get a few games before the end of this season.

It would be good to see him take his game to the next level. If his fit then yes give him a chance.

Maric has been miles better than Jetta this season. Maric should have played by now.

Exacery.

Correct Roost. But Watts was also coming in to a position that we had an obvious deficiency in. On the other hand, Maric has some fierce competition for the position and role in which he plays. It is up to him to apply himself enough to show enough to overtake the incumbents.

Maric has been miles better than Jetta this season. Maric should have played by now.

Disagree. Up until he got dropped recently, Jetta not only got as much of the ball as Maric, he also put the defensive pressure on the opposition that Maric didn't. Today's game demands this from small forwards and to date Maric hasn't shown enough of this. I believe he is close but he has to continually perform. He has had a few years now and he hasn't yet shown enough mental application. Now he is paying the price for being lazy or not 100% mentally committed and he has to work harder as the coaching staff won't gift him a game or bring him in for "development" like they have with other youngsters.

Maric has been miles better than Jetta this season. Maric should have played by now.

Jetta came back from injury and immediately played better games than Maric was in the VFL. He then got selected on merit to play in Darwin and played a blinder. His next few weeks at AFL were progressively not as good and he now finds himself in the VFL. Maric has been building all season off an almighty sloppy start to the year. He should now find himself above Jetta and Wona in line for a game. Unfortunately he is behind Bennell/Green/Bate/Watts/Sylvia/Jurrah for a spot in the forward line. If he continues his good form he should be able to force himself a spot in the team (maybe as early as this week). But as of last week he certainly hadn't earned his right to play. Sure he might have had a case for cheap games like Watts or Wona in Darwin, but he hadn't earned it.

Cheney and Bail have played consistent BOG to get back in the side. When Maric finds consistent dominance not just consistent decent games at VFL level I will be calling for him.

Maric will play this week nothing more certain. His form at Casey over the last 6 weeks has been OK and we need to give him 4-5 games this year to se if he can play at AFL level. 2010 was always about getting games into players so we would be a better team in 2011. Make no mistake Maric will be a dangerous small forward and can run through the midfield.

Maric was the guy I picked to have a break out year. It's not too late but.......

This is a fair point, but who in the current senior team should be denied their development opportunity in order to gift it to Maric???

With the massive inexperience in our list, there's pretty much only 3 players who aren't 'developing' every time they take the field. It would be fair to say that really only Junior, Bruce & Green are 'fully developed' at this point.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
