Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Coaches Votes

Just having a look at the coaches votes for the QB game, as follows:

Melbourne v Collingwood

9 Dane Swan (Coll)

9 Brent Moloney (Coll)

5 Mark Jamar (Mel)

5 Scott Pendlebury (Coll)

1 Brad Dick (Coll)

1 Dayne Beams (Coll)

Obviously one coach gave Beamer 5, the other coach gave him 4 and same for Swan. One coach has given 3 to Russian, the other coach 2 and same for Pendlebury.

Now, the one vote - both coaches have gone for Dick and Beams. I am obviously biased but IMO how Davey is not listed is beyond me. Malthouse tagged Flash who tore them apart, no vote there Mick?

I would argue even with Dick's 4 goals, 2 were over the top Joe the Goose' and Davey was better than him. In my opinion Flash was just as effective as Pendlebury but what do I know? As for Beams? Seriously......

I agree with the 9s and 5s - especially the 9s. Geez Dane Swan is a good player. The second half really was Melbourne vs Swan in my eyes.

Totally bewildered by the ones - I reckon we had three players (Garland, Davey and Morton) who were better than both those two. Oh well.

Garland of course!!! Thanks Nasher....seems I fell for the same trap as even coaches do by not giving a vote to defenders (even though flash is off half back is an attacker!). The overall leaderboard below reads like a Herald Sun player of the year award, bit surprising considering the majority of coaches were defenders or defensive minded and know better than us the task assigned.

Reckon it's time an award was struck for the defenders.

Leader board

62 Luke Hodge (Haw)

48 Dane Swan (Coll)

47 Matthew Pavlich (Fre)

46 Aaron Sandilands (Fre)

44 Paul Chapman (Geel)

41 David Mundy (Fre)

38 Gary Ablett (Geel)

38 Brendon Goddard (StK)

37 Lenny Hayes (StK)

37 Chris Judd (Carl)

I thought Garland was fantastic. Starting to see some real 'freakish' sort of qualities in him. I though early on some of Flash's disposal was a little iffy, so I'm OK with him missing out.

Interesting observation. I hadn't noticed that before.

All good Nasher...bring it too life!!

Out of the 7 mids I reckon only 3, Voss, Ratten & Knights would have been more attack minded players. Even guys like Clarko I would class as more dour if not defensive midfielders.

Even those 3 were hard bodied more contested ball winners than outside players.

Guess it all changes next year when Longmire starts coaching.

As for the votes, I wonder if Bailey gave the 1 vote to Beams or Dick. I would have to presume Dick and can see why he got a vote, can't see what Beams did more than Davey or others.

Indeed. If you count McKenna and Sheedy the number of defenders goes to 10.

Entirely agree. Davey's impact upon the game was huge, in my view even greater than Moloney's

Some of the defenders even started their careers as forwards or midfielders but found their "home" in defence.

Harvey, Lyon & Roos started as forwards.

Malthouse & Scott & possibly Thompson (not so sure about him) started as mids. And I thought Bailey also started as a mid but played most games in defence.

Eade (and Sheedy, for what it's worth) went the other way - started in back pocket & ended up in midfield.

But again, no forwards - even those who started out as forwards did better as defenders. IMO this makes your point even stronger, Nasher.

So who was the coach who never played at afl/vfl level? It was either Neil Craig or Ross Lyon i'm assuming...

It was Craig....Ross Lyon played with Fitzroy.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
