Gysberts was outstanding. Very cool and composed. At times he looked like a veteran. A bright spot in a very ordinary day

If he can get some muscle on that wiry frame then he is going to be an absolute tank. Far and away the brightest spot in a bleak fortnight.

6'3" tall midfielder, or, a very handy half forward with sticky fingers, down the track??? A beautiful combo in a player.

He and Barlow were being compared to Judd, Ricciuto and one other guy on the Fifth Quarter. Lock in the nomination, it doesn't get much better than 27 touches in the wet...unless you do a Round 7 Tom Scully

robinson was pretty good yesterday as well imo, also been good the last 2 weeks. not sure if hes ahead of rockliff, but probably ahead of gys.

The kid is a gem.

Once he gets used to the pace of the game he will bring players like Davey, Trengove and Scully into the game. His disposal is very good as is his decision making. This kid will learn quickly, he is a smart player.

The midfield is bubbling along nicely. Now for the forward line.

Constructive criticism is a scarcity around these traps. It's either 'X' player is going to be a gun or

'X' player is terrible and we must delist them.

Every year we have new draft picks and every year it seems to be the same story. The premature prediction

that these players will become 'guns'. Man I love that word.

My views on Gysberts:

Gathering 26 and 27 possessions in his first two games is a sensational effort. Good to know that he can

find the pill and get to the right positions.

In close I thought he looked composed and gave off smart handballs to the advantage of players unlike some senior players...

Kicking looks to be an issue and definitely needs improving. Technique definitely needs looking at and decision making on

I think Gysberts was very good for us but I said the same thing last week he needs to improve his disposal. Perhaps if he had someone to pass the ball off to it would help.

I really think we need someone with a bit of polish to finish off the work of Scully, Gysberts and others.

Yep, I hadn't watched the Gys, before we recruited him. I've got to say, I'm excited with what he could become, very happy.

Now, for the forwardline indeed,,, & stage 2 for the defense.

Me and a mate were sitting there in the pouring rain behind the cheer squad screaming out "THE GYS!" each and every time he touched it. Loving it.

Brock leaving was a blessing, Gysberts is a serious talent. We won out of that.

why not? it is a clearly flawed kicking style but the good thing is that if he is an inside player he won't need to kick as much as an outside reciever.

There is a reason why James Strauss is one of the most exciting talents on our list, foot skills. He has them. At the moment we only really have Davey as our man that we can trust the ball with. in time, I think James will be this person. unlike anyone else

You're still placing TOO much emphasis on kicking skill.

I look at it like this. The MOST important skill for a footballer is Kicking skill...

But it's not the ONLY important skill. What's more, having a good kick on its own is not enough. I'd take a player with a combination of any two of the following skills over a player with ONLY footskills: quick hands, contested marking, pace, reading of the play, football brain and endurance.

Eg: Scully = quick hands + pace (+ probably footy brain)

Bail = pace + footy brain

Bruce = endurance + reader of the play

Gysberts = elite hands + footy brain

McDonald = footy brain + endurance

Morton = endurance + reader of the play (probably kick too, but not yet)

From what little I've seen, Strauss has the kick. But then so did Chris Johnson.

He's off to a good start, but there's still a LOT of work to be done, and he certainly needs to bring a defensive element to his game. If he could go back with the flight and have the toughness of, say, JoelMac... then we'd really have a player on our hands. But so far, he's not shown me any aptitude for this kind of thing. Not to stick the boot in here... I'm sure he has leaps and bounds of improvements left in him. But to say he's one of the "most exciting talents" on the list is probably overstating it a bit for mine.

He's a good junior, but hasn't shown nearly as much as Trengove, Gys, Scully, Petterd, McKenzie, Bail, Grimes, Frawley, Bennell, Jetta or Morton... who are all pretty much still kids.

Loved his attitude out there as stated so far it's a great start too hopefully a great future I would like too see him kick at training before I made any Judgements on his skills, as like most first year players there skills can be a little off and that's a direct result of presure with the speed of the game. The most encouriging thing is he can find the ball almost as much as anyother therefore he is in or finding the right positions.
