First of all, I love watching the Flash (when he's on fire). Best and fairest last year, played all 22 games, and heart and soul player of the year for 2009 at MFC. It just seems, that while the club is heading in the right direction, he has not really turned it on like I had expected this year.

I just think week after week he is trying to do a little too much with that boot of his. His kicks are two short and off target. He is not running off the back/through the centre like he did last year. And is not chasing down apponents which has been one of his key trademarks.

This is not a Flash bash thread. I just think he needs to settle down a little and go back to his football of last year!

Just curious on what others think?

He's not playing the same role as he did last year, they're playing him more off half forward while last year he was off half back. He's also getting more attention then he did last year. He's still been good without being fantastic, I wouldn't be to concerned.

Yeah, im not overly concerned, as he is still a major ball getter for our club. It's just some of his kicking and decision making has been a little frustrating for me to watch (like on friday in the wet). I guess It must be hard due to other players stepping up this year for him to be as noticable. I was actually thinking over the xmas holls that he could be our next captain???

As of last week I think it was (might have been two weeks ago), Flash had something like 69% game time this season, lower than any of our other players.

Once he is fully fit, he will be back to his best, and he is getting closer each week. It's just a management thing, and it's been handled beautifully so far.

I'm fully expecting a massive game from him over the next few weeks.

That's an interesting stat - nice find.

I certainly think he's been below his best without being anything near terrible.

He has been getting a fair bit of attention from the other teams, they really started to tag him hard in the second half of last season. As this season goes on and the young blokes improve, the attention will need to spread and he will be able to impact games more.

He is in our top 7 for stats averaging 21 disposals and 4 tackles but I know what you mean. I dont see him at full stretch for very long and together with long stretches on the bench getting hammy rubs suggests to me he has some injury.

I would like to see him play at hFF for the following reasons. His harrassment of defenders clearing enemy 50, his finishing, his ability to find targets inside 50, and the capacity of others to now do the run and carry job.

Yep, he is certainly not a very good half back when he is playing on the Half forward line.

MFC's problem is that we dont have 5 of Aaron Davey.

This thread hasnt been very well researched so I'm not going to go on.

They might have found him out a little. But this year he's still been dangerous, and when he gets the pill, which is often, he does something with it...

I wouldn't say he was out of form. Not at all.

Flash is still having a great year.

I think we sometimes try to dissect everything a little too closely.

I would think that he has still been one of our most damaging players simply for the fact that when he gets the ball, something good happens. He still hits targets in dangerous places and sets up many attcking plays.

He might want to get another few possessions, but I would still say he is in our top5 for the year.

I also think some people may be expecting him to be a 30 possession winner all the time. 15 touches from him are worth 30 from some others, just for the way he uses the ball.

sits out the back of the pack way too much! it can work in out favour because if we win the clearance we can get it to him!

but i think rioli is loved by everyone because he attacks the ball alot harder than players like davey.

Watch our game plan, it would fall apart with out the blokes out the back getting 'cheap' kicks.

If AD is doing less, it is because others are doing more.

Once Scully gets the tag, or Trengove, watch AD run rampant.

He's had some niggling leg or hip complaint it seems nearly all season. He seems to have freed up just a little bit in recent weeks. Hopefully this will continue.

Rioli is a different build, like Wonnaemirri. Davey isn't getting cheap kicks outback. He's most use as an outside player who can run through the lines then deliver precision ball forward.

Cheap kicks is what used to happen 3 or 4 years ago in the back pocket where some would congregate 25 mtrs from the kick in on their own to recieve the short pass. Then they wouldn't even run it.

I think Davey is working through whatever it is thats ailing him. And I think he's developing this role which hopefully will be taken by Blease next year & Davey can either go forward or get a roving commission.

To me he doesn't seem as quick as he used to be, or at least I don't think he's chasing like he used to. I haven't seen one of his long, lighting speed chases that used to get the whole crowd excited yet this year. Or maybe it's just me :P

He's still played well this year and he's only going to get better.

To be quiet honest, I think it's an AWESOME thing to see him drop off. It means things are tougher around him and he might not be the best anymore. But because he was AWESOME at his best last year, that makes it AMAZING that there are some BETTER than him.

If not, he's still playing good footy, and would easily be top 7-8 of B&F.

I think the game has lifted in pace since aaron started, but also Flash is slightly bigger now, so he was always going to lose a bit of toe. I still cant ever remember him getting run down from behind. Caught thinking sometimes sure but never caught running.

He cops a lot of attention, on account of him being the only one to have played semi-decent football through the last 3 years. He's public enemy number 1 for opposition teams.

Let's look at the positive: we know Davey has room to improve, yet we're still playing great football. Imagine what will happen if Davey gets going.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
