Pink is for Panzy's

I have just finished reading todays HUN at lunch and saw on the back page that we will trade our red and blue for pink and blue this weekend in support of the breast cancer awareness cause. Are we fair dinkum? I am by no means saying that this charity doesn't deserve all the recognition it can get, but for god's sake, we will be running around the park on our only friday night fixture in 2 years i BLOODY PINK JUMPERS AND SOCKS!!!!!!!

This is so stupid. We will be mocked by every commentator, fans and the football public in general. We are the Demons, not the bloody flamingos!!

Interesting to note that Beamer Moloney was sporting the strip in the paper. Goes with teh hair gel I guess. At least he and Col won't have to worry about getting changed after the game. The can saloon down Acland Street in there pretty pink jumpers and matching pink socks!!

I know I am getting fired up about this. But i truly believe this is a disgrace. We are on TV to a national audience on a Friday and we will fair dinkum be going aroundd in Pink jumpers. what about those people new to the game. How many you reckon will see us on the telly and say "Boy I sure like those guys in the pink...who are they?" - No one!!!!!!!!

Why couldn't we just go with Pink socks, pink numbers, a pink footy (which we did a few years ago) or Pink padding on the goal posts, pink 50 arcs etc. The jumper in our game is the greatest of symbols. Coaches talk about playing for the jumper. It what a club stands for. We have given it up and will look like twats on Friday. Good job. This is a charity BTW. So we don't get a penny for it. Unlike the Blues when they turned 'light blue' for M&M's. They still cop it.

Its a joke MFC. Shame

I feel sorry for you.

Some things are bigger than football and worth getting behind.

AS i said KS - I am not having a dig at the cause. It's a great cause. And we are fully behind it as a club. However, giving up the jumper on a night when we will be exposed to a national audience is a JOKE!

THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER WAYS WE COULD HAVE MARKED SYMBOLISM. What about the cancer clash? We had a part of the arm of the jumper yelloe. Not the whole 'V'. You miss the point

On the contrary. I think it's the absolute opposite.

It is a full commitment to supporting and increasing awareness of this cause, unlike some other token gestures like green laces.

I'm proud my club is leading the way in showing a real passion for the community and finding ways to fight for issues that are bigger than footy.

I'd hardly be embarrassed to see our boys in pink when it's such a worthy cause.

If they were disgracing our jumper for a hollow cash-grab I might have an issue with it.

Biggest non-issue ever. It's for charity mate. Just relax.

How many of these 'new to the game' people do you really believe there are that are randomly tuning in and deciding they won't support the team that is supporting an enormous one off charity event? Ludicrous reasoning. Why not consider the flip side of how many women who otherwise believe AFL Clubs to be uncaring havens of chauvisism might tune in and take note of one Club really putting in to contribute to the biggest women's health issue there is???

If wearing a bit of pink just once in the name of such an enormously worthy cause is good enough for the Australian Cricket Team, then I can't see how it's not good enough for us.

token gestures aside mate. With all due respect we are having how ever many thousand people wear pink ponchos on the ground before the game. That is support enough i reckon. Play with a pink ball! Are the Doggies going pink? huh?

Leading the way. Turn it up mate. You wait for the cliches about being in pink Dennis will come up with when we are 10 goals down! We will be a laughing stock!

So what?

Jokes may be made, but are you not man enough to ignore that crap in the name of getting behind a good cause?

If anything, i think it shows your thin skin.

Gee fancy worrying about how our team looks , take a hard look at the facts every day 30 odd women are diagnosed with this dreadfull disease and 100 men also a year on average are too diagnosed hate to think the survival rate for all concerned, this issue is very big and to raise it on prime time friday night is great coverage.

Get a grip and relax maybe you may be unfortunate to know someone with breast cancer one day and may change your tune

Think of the bigger picture.

Field of Women could become an annual event, and Melbourne making the sacrifice of wearing the pink strip could secure it as a Friday Night game each year. Beats playing twilight games on a Sunday.

tez..think before you type chump. My mother has been throughbreast cancer!! So keep ya comments to yourself. I think what we are doing is great. You have all missed the point though. The question is did we really need to change the jumper to Pink? really? Pink numbers? Pink lady under AFL logo? That's not enough? Hell i would have been happy with pink shorts. Pink shorts is fine by me. Not the JUMPER

This thread makes me hate mankind.

I think it's a bit less dramatic than that - just one guy that has lost sight of what is really important.

Focus on the people who get it & are making this happen.

So proud of our club to go to this length.

I see your point mate, but like the others said, if you embrace something, do it wholeheartedly. Pink is the new red!

Balls - you've lost it!

Why thank you!!

It still really annoys me. I won't change my opinion.

Note Beamers comment that when teh jumpers were handed out "It raised a few eyebrows amongst the boys" - Yep they are stoked to be wearing it!!

Well as looking as we look like we are doing the right thing I am satisfied.

Go the FLAMINGO'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They replaced one of the most sacred icons in Australian sport, the Baggy Green, with a Baggy Pink.

Seriously mate, you're worried about a few jibes from commentators who need to fill dead air?? If we're down by 10 goals, we've got bigger problems on the night than a bit of pink on the guernseys.

Our first time at bat on the big stage for 2 years = PERFECT time to do this. Big crowd, big TV audience. Fantastic way to drum up support for avery worthy cause. Our own president is going through a tough time due the big C and yet you want our club especially to not give a rats about cancer awareness and donating to proceeds to hopefully finding a cure to one of the biggest blights on western culture. Balls you are a disgrace. This is a fantastic opportunity for our club to grow as a result of wearing PINK. you should be ashamed of your small mindedness about our F'ing jumper. We change our jumper many times through the year for supposed 'clashes' at least this a good reason

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
