The oval is the property of the Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust, so we don't have naming rights over it.

Our situation would be equivalent to that of Collingwood in their battle to try and have Edwin Flack Field named Bob Rose Oval.

Thanks Inner Demon. Either way and whatever it's called, it is a MASSIVE win for the MFC. We are closer to 'Home' than we ever have been. Can't wait to move in.

Can you shed any light of what social club facilities we will have?

To the best of my knowledge AAMI Park won't have any 'social club' like facilities. Though I guess that would depend upon your definition of the term.

There certainly won't be a licensed/gaming venue within the complex. There will, however, be hospitality areas that I suppose the Club would be able to use, but obviously this access will be dictated by the schedule of the arena in terms of soccer, league & union games. In that aspect, it is really no different to the MCG.

Right. So provided there is no game on the same time as ours there may be some potential for us to have after match functions at AAMI? I thought this was mentioned by CS at some stage.

Yes, we must've heard the same interview, I understand it that the players will make use of the recovery facilities over the road at AAMI after games at The G, so provided there's no fixture at AAMI at the time we should be able to hold post-match functions at AAMI that players will be able to wander up to once they've finished recovery.

I suppose the other possibility would be having 'viewing parties' when MFC has interstate games, again, this would obvoiusly be dependent upon AAMI Park fixturing.

Facts:

1. We share the gym, pool, meeting room facilities with Victory and Storm. Victory don't play in winter...

2. The new oval next to Swan street is ours alone. Collingwood will continue to use Gosch's paddock until their oval is built next to Lexus centre nest year...Eddie having sold out the Victorian Athletics association.

3. Having players available in the centre of Melbourne is vital in season. Every wondered why Collingwood is always in the news? Because Journo's are lazy and would prefer a 5 minute drive down the road instead of heading to Frankston ( St.Kilda) Waverley ( Hawthorn) etc.

4. Casey can accomodate closed sessions. Vital during the summer period when team tactics are being planned. Collingwood go to Arizona! The oval has one of the best surfaces ever seen for a football ground. It has 1st class facilities within a short distance or on site. Solid Gym sessions can still be held at AAMI, lighter ones at Casey or during training.

5. Football department and Museum will be based at AAMI.

6. AAMI is across the road from MCG. When in season, post match, players can start their rehab straight away. No more sessions at St.Kilda beach or MSAC etc.the day after. These facilities will give our players 24hours more recovery time than they currently enjoy.

7. The gym at AAMI is shared among the 3 tenants. I think it measures 1000 sq metres! We only have to pay to fit out 1/3rd of it, but get to use 100%.

8. Casey is about the future. 5,000 kids start school there every year. 7,500 families move in each and every year. Which club has a school visit programme exclusively? It is our summer base

I'm really excited by this. FINALLY, we will have training facilities on par with the big clubs. North have elite facilities now. We're pretty much the last club to get them. About time if you ask me.

The prospect of 'the docklands project' is VERY long term. If is ever got off the ground, it would probably still be 10 years away. This is a good result.

Players might actually want to come to our club!

Thanks for the facts George. I'm taking a a team from Brisbane down to take on a couple of Melbourne teams in early August and the club are happy for us to come to a training session and take a tour of the new facilities. Can't wait!

Can't find the link now as I'm using my iPhone, but I saw earlier today on the Age website an article about AAMI Park and a video tour through the facilities.

Worth a quick look for those interested.

Love to see that link enforcer, from all reports it's going to be fantastic. Can't wait to go inside and have a look.

Could be this one I think: Final touches as bubble stadium unwrapped

Yeah, they are the only links I could find.

Can;t wait for the stadium to be open - might even drag me to an A-League match!

I've been through the site and up on top of the roof and when it is filled it will have an amazing atmosphere.

The lighting system on the facade will be pretty special too - you'll be able to see the light show from miles away when the home team scores.

I imagine it could be used for advertising purposes too. Something the MFC might want to look into.

Lighting facade won't be of much use to us. We won't play there.

People driving past seeing the stadium flashing red & blue might be worth something...

Just an idea, but I admit a weak one.

I'm going on Friday night to the League (meh) but really keen to see what it's like, doubt I'll be able to sneak a peak underneath.

Also chance for us to have a heap more room with The Rebels looking to take over either Princess Park once the Storm moves to AAMI or Glenferrie or Moorabin for there admin and training venue!!!!

League mate... I didn't look at the draw when I bought the tickets, rather expensive not to head along now. Rookie bloody mistake on my part! I missed the Lions game too damn it.

You could be excused for assuming we wouldn't be playing on a friday night.

Is this the first game at AAMI Park?

Good game to be at, pity about the scheduling.

Points of interest: our offices are closest to the 'G and seem larger than the Victory's (only eclipsed by the Storm's).

Anyone know what Imaging@olympic park is?

Can't open the link, but from looking at that plan I have some that are different.

I'll drag them out and have a look, but I'm sure MFC has more space than that. Unless there has been a change.

It's really happening. It is really, really happening.

Another major step towards being the undisputed lords of the universe... er... sustained excellence in every aspect of our club and team.

Meanwhile, they might want to consider auctioning off some of the 'junk' from the 'Junk'tion oval. There's always a market for odd-ball memorabilia, and it adds a touch of ceremony.

Medical imaging - x-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, MRI etc. It would be part of the Olympic Park Sports Medicine Center, which will move from just down the road. Very useful for our players to have access to this medical imaging department for scans.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
