I agree with the earlier comment. Our forward line looks better with Newton in it. He may not justify the spot on his form, but for some reason the shape changes when he's there and the other players all work better. It must be some difference in the way he goes about it compared to Miller. Perhaps it's that he's less inclined to go running off up the field? Whatever, I would prefer to see him stay in, firstly because he makes the rest of the forwards more effective, and secondly because he might just have a couple of good games and get us over the line.

funnily enough, we did look more structured with him there. I thought he did enough today to warrant another game. At least he competed better than Miller and Bailey didn't use him as key forward half as much. He appeared to be benched a lot in the first half.

Newton straightened us up today. He's another target that stays relatively inside 50 most of the game. He may not have been in it much, but his one shot at goal was straight through the middle. He kicked through the ball, so it was good to see. Last season he showed that he can get a lot of opportunities on goal. Today wasn't necessarily his day, but against Adelaide last year (at the 'G), I remember him having quite a few shots on goal and missed some sitters. If he can convert those next week and gets in it a little more, he's still worth a game.

mmmm lets just hope next weeks game isnt at all like the game last year. When we didnt kick a goal till the 3rd term. I`m struggling to see who can come out for Sylvia, maybe Bartram or Bennel, but I didnt mind either of their games, even though Bennell shirked out of a few contests, But defiantly keep Newton in, provides more for us than Miller

I said Tuesday drop Miller for Newton and give him 5 games,i stand by that call.Newton is a better reader of the incoming ball and a better kick. How much game time was he given? He's not going to come in and be a match winner first game.I don't want Miller in again,he's given us 9 years of nothing.

i guess its newtons turn to give us 9 years of nothing?

he is rubbish

theyre both the same

except miller has the looks

Not a Newton fan, but did enough to stay in the team. He looked interested for once and played his part. Keep him in and see how he goes.

He has lost confidence, but his 29 touch 4 goal effort last week has given some of it back. His demotion to the rookie list was a good kick up the bum, and now he needs to lift some more.

The 5 or 6 displays of chasing, tackling and mongrel were what I wanted.

Keep it going Juice

I think everyones being a bit harsh on Newton. He cant be expected to come into the side and kick 4 goals. I was at the game today and when in the forward line he provided a real forward line option. Last week we had Spencer playing his role for the majority of the afternoon. I know who I would prefer. At least Newton has a presence about him today which was pleasing and did provide adequete support in the ruck for Jamar. He needs time to prove himself.

I thought Bartram played one of the best games I can remember him playing since 2004.

Newton was ok today... not brilliant but worthy of another game atleast. His game today was better than Miller of last week !!

Not a terrible game today as many would have justifiably expected. Warrants another go next week. He is only 22 so there is still faint hope he may become a footballer who can contribute. His efforts in the ruck for someone who hasn't played that position were noteworthy.

Good point, Forever Faithful. He and Dunn both did well in the ruck against Jolly and Fraser.

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
