There should be an inquiry into the umpiring today

Worst I have ever seen in the history of the game.

THEY HANDED COLLINGWOOD THE WIN.

We are absolutely crucified. We had kids outting their heads over the ball, and time and time again we were not rewarded.

So many errors made by the disgusting pricks that I cant even list them right now.

And I am not one that has ever blamed losses on the maggots.

This was appalling, and Bailey and co. need to take this to AFL house and have this result overturned. Mebourne should be awarded the win.

Yep, have to agree here. I very rarely if ever blame the maggots for losing a game of footy, it's usually just a couple of [censored] decisions here and there that give me the sads.

But today they cost us the 4 points. No doubt about it.

Worst display I've seen since Rd 4 1997 against Footscray (anyone remember that? One of the umps in question had a mental breakdown or something and retired). Actually it was probably worse!!!

Loved the strauss holding the ball when the whistle was blown as he picked up the ball before his handball.

I thought they were consistent all day. If you tackle or are tackled it's a free kick to the bloke in Black and white all day. Someone needs to explain to the umps that $1.05 isn't long enough odds to pay for the end of season trip.

[censored] disgraceful, how brad green didnt get that holding the ball on shaw is absoloutely ridicolous considering everytime collingwood tackled us they would blow the whistle as soon we were touched

yup.. we should of been awareded two free kicks in our forward fifty in the dying stages of the last quarter.

was a joke all day .. LOL

Absulute joke some decisions, and Harry O' standing right next to the man on the mark.

There was a holding the ball call on the wing against Melbourne (can't remember which player) which was one of the most ridiculous I've ever seen. Not even half a second prior.

I'm not the outlandish type who rags on the umpires every week, but today they were visibly awful.

We can't hang our hats on their incompetence as the reason for our loss, no way, but they definitely contributed.

They were pretty bad. I can handle consistently bad, but to be as one-sided as they were was pretty disgraceful. The 3AW team thought the umps were pretty bad today, too. Shaw dropping the ball in the last moments should have been a free kick based on the other holding the ball frees given out throughout the day.

Anger and passion are going to influence everyone's opionions, but this was appalling, close to the worst I've ever seen.

It wasn't biased towards Collingwood (and obviously not us), but it was consistently bad.

The umpire blew his whistle with the Strauss one before he'd handpassed it. Horrible.

Shaw clearly did not dispose of it. Should have been holding the ball. The umpires were afraid to pay decisions in that pocket/flank due to the Collingwood supporters there.

Rubbish, rubbish umpiring. It didn't cost us the game, but it made what would have been a great spectacle a bit worse.

Among many clangers, this was the standout. Took about 5 or 6 steps, took the player on, dropped the ball like a hot spud without even remotely getting close to hand or foot. However, the umps, as bad as they were did not cost us, just our inexperience. We had plenty of opportunities to win this game.

I think the Bennell tackled without the ball and then legged was the worst, we were 11 up with what 5 mins to go, if we hit 17 we win, if he misses and it's 12 well..... how much we lose by?

I'm speechless otherwise i'd say bad things

I was at the game today and my GOD, there were some STANDOUT terrible decisions made especially in that final quarter. No doubt we should have won this match, and the umpires definately kept the pies in it. I do not usually comment much on umpiring decisions as the reason for a loss but today they lost the game for us, no doubt. I agree those who made 2 or 3 critical decisions (or rather, didn't make them) in that final quarter need to be tied to a chair and forced to watch their errors over and over again. Because they were undoubtably errors and were in a position on the ground that would have likely resulted in easy goals for us.

Pick up your game and next time, don't ruin the game.

Not only did they miss plenty of ours but the frees handed to them in front of goal were disgracefull.

When the margin is only 1 point i think you can safely say they cost us the game.

for me the biggest ump issues were where they paid the free kicks (ie how many did collingwood get in their forward line?) and when did they pay them? how many times did they not pay the first free, and would pay the second or third. missed some obvious ones today.

Yeah, I don't think the umps were particularly pro-Collingwood, just particularly useless. No consistency.

Don't even get me started. First one that comes to mind was actually when the umpire pointed the wrong way for a free kick.

Oh wait, he actually did it TWICE.

But then again, Melbourne are hated by the umpires IMO. Seems like there's always a lot of games where there's free kicks paid against us for absolutely nothing.

Also, Strauss' one was bulls--t, and I remember late in the last quarter Davey went for a mark and got bumped in the shoulder (I think) and there was no free paid. And I strongly believe that Petterd was tripped in the last contest about two seconds before the siren.

Worst I have ever seen in the history of the game.

Magic- support your point totally- worse display of black and white poisoning I have ever had. One eyed umpiring t it's best- BLOODY DISGRACEFUL.ACTUALLY FERREL

The missed free on the rugby tackle on Bennell most likely cost us the game. Hoist the umpires by their pettard.

Oh wait, he actually did it TWICE.

That alone should be enough for an umpire to be suspended. I mean, come on, pointing your arm isn't very hard.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
