I dont know if it was the wrong thing to do, but i have done it now. I sent a letter of disappointment to MFC because i wanted them to know that what took place on the weekend was just not up to scratch. In laymans terms, i wanted them to know that it just wasnt good enough. Please feel free to read my letter below and comment, i wont take offence. Also, is writing a letter like this good to show your passionate, or should we just let them get on with it without outside input such as mine???

Dear Jim/Dean,

I work a full time job, I get paid and I do my work. Whilst I admit Football is a slightly different kettle of fish, and you never know what might happen, the one thing I expect from the team I love and support is genuine passion, commitment and some seriously dogged determination. I honestly have no problem with losing games of football, I just want to see blokes who are prepared to have a crack.

Good news is that there are 21 weeks to go, and I hope the guys see this as a positive too, cause otherwise we might as well pack up right now.

Finally, the main reason I am writing this letter is because I want you to know that people like me care a lot about what is going on with our club. I want you to be upset that I had to write this letter, because to be honest, this is not the kind of thing I do lightly, in fact I think it’s the first time I have ever done something like this, such is the way I felt from what took place on the weekend.

My advice, get straight back on the horse and give it a decent crack…

Kind Regards

I wouldn't even worry about it, it's just going to go straight on the pile with the other 15,000 letters they would have received this week all of which will not be looked at by anyone at the club.

Letters get you nowhere.

Gather five, ten thousand fans/members of a Facebook page/group and the Herald Sun will feed on it for a couple of weeks.

I am afraid you are wrong there, if they receive communication that is just invective you would probably be right, but I have sent a couple of emails to the club, I wrote one detailing an encounter I had had with one of the younger players, I asked that my views be passed on to the Footy dept, it was a bit of good and bad. I had the opportunity to speak to the player again and he thanked me for sending the email.

I think you have done the right thing, I have also sent an email to express my dissatisfaction with what was served up on Saturday, if there is one thing the club is these days is very open.

I reckon everybody on this board should send one, as long as it is like yours supportive but expresses dissatisfaction.

We are members of the Club we have a say

If they're at all serious about their job, they won't look at this. Which is good, because it wouldn't do us any good. All that matters to them is training, recovery and the matches each week-end. And that's all that should matter. I'm sure they're as disappointed at being made to look like idiots as we all were at watching them play like ones. Hopefully they'll be better against Collingwood - if only a little bit.

Very different circumstances there.

I'm referring to last weeks game, where the club will receive probably thousands of letters from upset fans. The club know what all of these letters contain and will not feel the need to read every single one of them, nor respond.

Your situation is a much more personal matter that i'm sure the club would like to be seen to be dealing with.

Ok then, so pretty much writing a letter such as i did is a waste of time. I suppose it just felt good to vent some frustration. I didnt think they would receive so many letters as everyone seems to think. I will be interested to see if i get any response, i'm highly doubting it from what everyone has said here.

I sent an email to the club voicing my extreme disappointment at Saturdays result.

No use doing nothing! Better to let the club know how you feel.

And as a member of the Melbourne Football Club for over 25 years I feel it's my duty and my right to tell them what I think.

All members are part owners of the Melbourne Football Club. If you don't like what's going on, on or off the field tell them!

Do they read the letters and emails? Don't know. But they should!

At least if enough members voice their disapproval by email or letter, the club should get a feeling that the members aren't too happy.

As long as you understand that letters like this which aren't actually addressing a specific problem which is actionable by the admin staff are more or less just masturbation then knock yourself out, write away. But if you expect Jim Stynes or Dean Bailey to have to pore through however many pages of rubbish and write you letters of response then you're just kidding yourself.

As an aside, if you think there is anybody in the MFC organisation in any capacity who doesn't understand all too well how unacceptable Saturday was then you're delusional. Try to realise that all of us on this forum, whilst passionate, have other things to occupy our time during the week. The people at the footy Club are living this Club not only on weekends, but all day during each week too.

So therefore what you are saying that if you held shares in a company and you found that staff were actually ripping the company off and the chairman and directors did nothing, you would not attend a shareholders meeting or write to the company to express your dissatisfaction, although this is only football it is the same thing, I am not happy with Saturday so I wrote to the Club and said so, if it is read great, if not I least I have stood by my principles

.

So what you are saying also that if the side does not win a game in the first part of the saason, and DB and the coaching panel are sacked, the Finance Department personnel will also go, I think not, unless every staff member is a passionate Dees fan, there will be some within the Club that won't care about the Football side as long as it doesn't impact on their job

To all the naysayers,

I sent an email to the club at 2.00pm, here is a paste of the reply I got at 3.08pm, I deleted my name out it was addressed by my first name

Good Afternoon

Thank you for your feedback, and continued support of the Melbourne Football Club.

As you can appreciate, the Club is working toward sustained and ongoing success that we can all enjoy in the coming seasons. Just as we saw our team improve throughout the game against Hawthorn, you will see improvement in all of our players as they play more games together and gain confidence as a playing group.

The directors, staff and players at the Club are all fully supportive of Dean Bailey, and everyone at the club is committed to providing him with the support he needs to build a successful team.

We all appreciate the evolution of our team that is taking place under his guardianship. It was most rewarding to see our new recruits playing well in their first outing with the Melbourne Football Club. We look forward to enjoying their further progress, as well as the continued development of the rest of our team throughout this season.

Kind Regards

You're comparing losing a game of football to unpunished corporate crime?? Give me a break.

You are wrong in your unfounded opinions on how the admin staff respond to bad things happening at any level of the football club. People who work in football are making less money than what they might make outside of football in the same position be it accountant, marketing, sales, whatever. They most certainly are emotionally attached to the fortunes of the football team because, at the very least, it directly impacts upon how Club stakeholders will behave towards them. Furthermore, this is a Club, not just a company. You may not care whether other areas of your company's business perform well if it doesn't affect your employment but that is not how it works in a football club. Everyone is in it together equally in enjoying the good times and being put under pressure by the bad times.

Does your username actually mask somebody who actually works within the Club, because if it does it would be nice to know, I wann't comparing I was actually analogising, it was not to be taken seriously, although you are generalising when you say my opinion is unfounded, as you have no knowledge of my background or experience,it was to make a point, I am a stakeholder of the Club to use corporate speak, so therefore I have a right to express my dissatisfaction, as I have a right in any situation

No, I don't work within the Club but having dealt with many people who have over a number of years I know that they hurt when things are bad.

I've never suggested anyone doesn't have the right to send in a letter, I just thought it was worth pointing out that sentiments along the lines of, "The Club needs to know that it's supporters are hurting or find this unacceptable" are somewhat unnecessary and I infer from them that there is a misguided belief out there that the people who live and breathe our club day in, day out don't feel it too or don't realise what we go through as supporters. They most certainly do.

We will reach an agreement to disagree, of course they need to be told, I hope they are inundated with emails and letters, that way it is passed through the whole club, especially the players.......without the supporters there would be no club.........

Not true. Couple of yrs back when we where getting bashed by everyone as to whether we should have the Queens bday game i sent Paul Gardner, Andrew Demetriou, Steve Harris and Nick McCallum (who was filling in for Neil Mitchell) a letter on my views and so on and got a reply from every single one of them except Steve Harris (surprise surprise!) even Demetriou replied (managed to get his personal email a AFL House which helped).

So all it takes is one person and one letter (Nick McCallum spoke about it his program to)

So you think the receptionist/marketing rep who reads your letter gets on the phone to Cam Bruce and says, "Brucey, you'd better listen to this mate, turns out the supporters were a little nonplussed with the 10 goal caning we got on the weekend. Better sharpen up mate". Or do you somehow hold the admin staff to account for Cam putting his mates in hospital with every handball??

My point is that I understand this is therapeutic for supporters and I have no problem with it happening for just this reason. I'm sure the club understands this. Furthermore, member feedback is critical for things that the club may not be aware of like difficulties with your membership, or player behaviour or any number of things. But I think you'll find they are already fully aware that the weekend's performance was disgraceful and members are furious, shattered, etc.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
