Let's have some fun: what will Bailey say about today's game?

I'll start:

"Yeah, look, I think that we really let each other down today. We didn't execute some of the things we've been focusing on over the pre-season, and that was our biggest let-down."

"Yeah, look, I think we've still got a lot of areas to improve in. I think the idea was there but the execution is what let us down."

"Yeah, look, I think that, when you have so many players missing with injury, it does have an affect on the playing group. We have to be able to adapt to that, and that's where players like Dunn and Grimes and Bruce and Green have to step up."

"Yeah, look, I think we were disappointing today."

"Yeah, look, look."

"Yeah, look, it's a bird!"

"Yeah, look, it's a plane!"

"Yeah, look, I think it's Superman."

On the bright side of things, Bailey is always very level headed after performances like these. It can work either very well on the young blokes, or very poorly.

I have no doubt his words or tone won't change after today.

both of you guys are right!!

He says the same old things after every game.

He must think us supporters are either stupid or believe everything that comes out of his mouth.

I was starting to worry that someone would miss the point of this thread :P Thank you!

"We have to get games into our young players. Dont worry that even though the hawks were younger they still managed to show intensity and game plan, we just need 5 years to show any form of improvement. Trust me."

I know what he won't say:

"Thank god for the kids because they were the only shining light out there." (Green excepted)

Reporter:

Dean what went wrong today?

You didnt seem to have a game plan?

Your players continually turned over the ball

Your execution was poor

Your accuracy in shooting for goal was fairly ordinary

So what went wrong?

Bailey

Yeh well I think you have just about summed it up, but your still missing the point

Listen as Melbourne supporters you have to realise that to get better we have to get worse

We have to create that hunger in the players

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, Besides if we loose we get better Draft picks:)

Reporter:

Uhm Dean that doesnt apply this year the new teams coming into the AFL are getting all the concessions

Bailey:

What??? what are you talking about?? no ones told me about this,

Arrgh stuff it, there goes this years game plan. What do I do now????

Reporter:

Well Dean thats up to you your the coach

Bailey:

Yeh your right, damn it and I just signed up for another year:(

When he always says our second half or last 1/4 was good.

Do you think Mr Magoo actually knows they put the cue in the rack. After they blow

us out the water in the first 1/4 every time.

Well you blokes are pretty right... what the man with the plan actually said was....

"Today we were poor in the first half. At least we showed some fight in the second half, but we've got to be competitive for the whole game, not just in bits and pieces."

full points for those who guessed he'd ignore the fact that we only looked slightly better than awful when the Hawks had sent their best for a shower

He also noticed that they seemed to be better skilled and have a better plan than us... he took longer to say it but that was the crux

Classic Calabrese B. I knew he'd spout that rubbish too.

The key indicator for us this year will be how many Q1s and Q2s we win. Q3 and Q4 are only important indicators if you're still in the game, and as many have said in this thread and others, Hawthorn just switched off once they were 11 goals up.

We are currently 0/2 for Q1 and Q2 wins. As far as I'm concerned, I don't want to hear a single word out of Bailey's mouth about competetiveness or winning quarters in the twilight of a drubbing.

We basically all predicted what he was going to say.

Agree entirely.

2009 - we won 8 first quarters and 8 second quarters

2008 - 5 first quarters and 2 second quarters

2007 - 7 first quarters and 7 second quarters

2006 - 10 first quarters and 13 second quarters

Don't forget we made the finals in 2006. 2007 we played better than our win/loss ratio showed. The past 2 years we've been clearly not good enough in the first half.

Bailey is a master spin doctor who is clearly out of his depth as an AFL coach. If he had better judgement he would have knocked back the one year extension on his contract and thrown his hat in the ring near the end of this season, As it is we have a lame duck leading a group towards further loses. Melbourne supporters and players deserve better than this.

I do not believe he is adding much value to the playing group. He was a mediocre player who is breeding a losing culture in a club desperate for success. Being able to predict his speal at his press conferences merely reflects his ineptitude and his lack of empathy and respect for long suffering supporters of the club.

Please move him on ......Connolly would make a good interim coach....he is a true Melbourne man with passion and a leader of men.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
