Dean Bailey on SEN tomorrow morning

maybe he doesnt want to blab his tactics for the oppositions to hear

they have already told us they are focused on a killer midfield and that they didn't rate any of the talls available at pick 11 or 18. End of story.

I don't know why people expect such transparency, and it seems entertainment, from a coaches interview

Couldn't agree more. Once they've heard him a few times they refer to his 'bed time stories", truth is you could make the same case for most coaches in the AFL that deliver a straight bat.

Guys like Sheedy and Choco Williams are a dime-a-dozen.

Yet the clear & simple reality is

1. There has been no evidence of a clear plan for kick-ins in DB's time and

2. No evidence of any structural improvement in our forward line

which I would hazead a guess as to why the questions wre asked in the first place

1. Don't you think they change their strategies for kick-ins for different oppositions ? Did you see any evidence last year of certain designated kickers ie. Davey, Frawley, Morton, etc..

And do you think DB would reveal such strategies over the air waves in the first place ?

2. In his time. Was there any structural improvement in the latter half of last year with Bate, Jurrah, Petterd and the like ? Was there any evidence of improvement of inside 50's throughout last season ?

Or were those questions based on the two pre-season trial games to date ?

Thanks for the round-up.

The game against Essendon showed signs of brilliance I thought. It wasn't a terrible game, we just made inexperienced errors that were bordering comical. They weren't shocking, but the whole team just wreaked of inexperience. It was blatantly obvious, more so than in any game over the past three years. It's like we're a puppy going through training: for every obedient and precise act we do, we do something silly.

Grimes was the biggest perpetrator of this. Did some absolutely outstanding things, but then also ran straight into traffic a few times and botched a few kicks. Inexperience and concentration. Like DB said, 40-60 games into these players and these silly errors will be almost non-existent. They have nothing to do with football brains or skill, it's just adapting to the pace of the game and becoming aware of the surroundings, which our team as a whole lacks the ability to do at the moment.

And our kick-ins have been a problem since the mid-90s. We can win games without fixing it. Least of our worries atm.

What ended Richo's career??? Just because he was years early doesn't mean he wasn't correct. :P

I remember it was a couple of years before he came close to winning the Brownlow. So no, we wasn't correct.

sorry about that

I could be wrong he might have said over 30,000 not around 30,000 if so my mistake

At the end of the day it is what it is.

Hope to see some good footy before round one just to help

Cheers

This years membership tally has slowed down, we've been around 22,000 for a couple of weeks.

How many weeks until round one? is it posible for MFC to get 7,000 or so members in that time?

Did he mention when Watts and Garland should be back?

Were they all the calls that Bailey took or were there more?

If that was it I'd be pretty disappointed in the callers.

Bailey was never gonna talk tactics so that was a waste of time and Bell that was a waste of a phone call, really who cares about Bell? and the forward line question wasn't specific enough.

The questions I would have asked would have been.

Who are gonna be our runners through the backline considering that you want to play Davey further up the ground?

Where do you see Morton playing in the future?

Why have we replaced Robbo with an inferior forward in Miller when the club have been preaching to everyone about youth?

Another Bailey interview where nothing is aswered, surprise surprise.

Miller replaced who now? I have no idea what you are on about with that.

Seeing as we have a plethora of young midfielders I would say that the young fellow who earns the right to player sweeper will get the job. Bennell has been tried. Strauss looks ok.

If you want more BS maybe you should lobby for Terry Wallace to replace Bailey.

At the end of last year he was struggling to get a game, now he is a certainty to be in our 22 come RND 1 without earning his position again.

I'm not gonna show blind faith in the club that preaches that we are going places when I'm seeing the same players doing the same things that have got us in this mess in the first place.

The only positive this year has been puting Grimes in the midfield, finally we have a new face in the midfield that has been neglected for 3 years cos the club prayed and hoped that the same 3 players would do something that they weren't capable of doing which was winning games and that is probably only due to McLean leaving. Apart from that it's the same old Melbourne and Miller is the poster boy of that, but he is not the only one I'm concerned with. A lot of the more experienced players have to show either more consistancy or more influence on a game.

Hi Little Stinga ,

There was no mention of when Watts or Garland would be back he only mentioned the ones that would be back this week or the next .

That was all the callers i think , he got off lightly imo .

All the interviews that i have heard from DB , ( 3 to 4 ) all have the same common denominator get 40 to 60 games into the young guns

then make a true assessment . Time will tell .

The forward line is a worry hope Garland can make a difference up there .

Cheers

Miller didnt have the best year last year & did struggle towards the end, but - how do you know how Miller has been training this pre-season?? Yes, his first two games havn't been great (but, he hasn't been on his Pat malone in the forward line). Dont you think the FD would be in the best position to decide who is best to play with what we have on our list atm??

The midfield has not been neglected for the past 3 years. The footy club saw that the backline was in the worst state of the 3 different lines in the team & as history shows us, a team cannot climb the ladder successfully without a strong backline. In the past year the footy club has recrutited the best players available for the midfield & will next continue to concentrate of the forward line.

Nobody is asking for blind faith - just what Jimmy said in yesterdays HS "show faith & believe in these guys".

How can I? The Mods want my concerns silenced

No, the mods would like for you to stop disrespectfully airing your nasty opinions about a player of the Melbourne Football Club.

Your constant bagging of Miller goes against our very clear Code of Conduct, and you're lucky that you haven't copped a suspension yet.

It took us a long time to rid this board of Miller bashers, so please don't start up again.

I second that.

That Miller is a limited player we all know; there is no disputing his failings. But he doesn't lack endeavour and often gets the ball. There are worse players than him vying for a position in the round 1 match. I just wish someone at the club would come up with a definitive practical strategy for Miller once he has the pill.

Brad Miller will be a very valuable player for us once the ball is delivered to him Bullet fast from the mid field. Let us not forget that the Ball coming into the forward line over the past 2 years has been pretty bad, if it comes in at all.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
