Welcome indeed.

Daniel Harris, Sam Iles, Roland Ah Chee (who I thought was highliy rated), Danny Stanley (lol) to GC

Newton back to us.

Daw to NM. Hawks pick up Wayde Skipper.

Absolutely no surprise, Meesen remains at the Dees and our list for 2010 is officially complete. Onwards and upwards.

Silvagni (Casey's) to Freo - good luck to him

Just a brief reminder to hose not overly familiar :

Joel Macdonald

DOB- 10 October 1984 (age 25)

Recruited from Mt Gravatt (QLD)

Draft Queensland Zone, 2002 Rookie Draft

ex- Brisbane Lions

Height 186cm

Weight 88kg

Playing Career

Position(s) Defender

Club

Years Team Pld G

2004–2009 Brisbane Lions 80 6

Hes, very good man on man.. ..a good decision maker and quite versatile able to play all over the backline really depending upon matchups. This gives the game day coaching panel a lot of choices. A welcome assett to the backline.

A pretty good backline just got better :)

Finally. The most boring draft of all time has finally passed by, and we can stop reading nonsense posts from all the jokers who actually thought there was even the most vague possibility we would not select Newton or Meesen.

Is it March 2010 yet?

Looks like a good selection on paper. Been a little while since we picked up a decent player from another club.

Hope it works out.

been a few misses havent there !! I think its now engraved in stone at MFC....never touch anything essendon !!

I think the essential difference with Joel is he's not a discard....just a disenfranchised player looking to restart at a new club. I think weve done ok here !!

Podsiadly to the Cats! 5-10 years too late?

Lol - Oakley-Nicholls to West Coast, could he be enough to stop them playing finals next year?

yeah, JON is a very strange choice I'd have thought...

maybe they think he'll come on with less pressure like Tambling did eventually

Maybe they're out of their brains.

Pretty much sums up why I ignore many of the pre-draft talk on these boards. So many people were wetting themselves at the thought of Daw, Panos and Temel. Two have been rookied and Temel hasn't been picked up.

Can anyone shed light on why Sydney passed on second, third and fourth round picks and then started selecting again?

Looking forward to singing "Joel MacDonald had a farm, Ee I Ee I Oh" at the footy next year.

Podsiadly. Interesting. In terms of the Cats list and where it's at, that shouldn't be much of a concern.

Yeah Podsiadly and Oakley-Nicholls surprised me too. I think Jared is a WA boy though so maybe they thought they'd take a punt. There wasn't that much else out there.

Anyone else have a giggle at the pathetic photo shop job of Joel on the official website?

What a pick up- mentioned on SEN this morning , he was the pick of the draft- OX earlier thought he was a Rd2 pick in the National Draft.

Background-Football career

He was recruited through the 2003 Rookie Draft (QLD Zone) from Mt Gravatt. He was elevated to the senior list at the end of the 2003 season and made his debut for the Brisbane Lions in Round 10, 2004 against Melbourne.

Early in the 2006 season Macdonald injured his Anterior cruciate ligament, which resulted in him missing the remainder of 2006 and the first half of the 2007 season. The 2008 season was considered to be the best career performance for Joel MacDonald.[1] However he was once injured again towards the mid 2008 season which Brisbane Lions missed out on AFL finals action. After the 2009 AFL season the Brisbane Lions delisted Macdonald along with 11 other players.

On December 15th, 2009, Macdonald was drafted to Melbourne with pick 1 of the Pre-Season Draft.

Therefore before this: Macdonald attended Brisbane Grammar School from 1999-2002

As Bailey coached at Port Adelaide in 2002 & Miller was with us- he would not have been either coached by Bails or team mate of Mills.

In the words of Harrington:

“We are really happy that a player of Joel’s calibre has elected to come to the Melbourne Football Club. He fits nicely into our List Management strategies, given his age, his 80 AFL games and the roles he can play within our playing list. He is an experienced player, who will add another dimension to our promising group of young defenders.”

Very important pickup IMO.

Sensational pick up by us ... Pick 1 in the PSD is a steal. Voss rolled the dice on this one and massively lost.

Their loss is our gain ... IMHO we have assembled a rock solid backline that is super versatile.

Very, very smart drafting.

It's just like the National Draft where you have to nominate the promoted rookies and the AFL assigns them to your picks starting from the last theoratical one that you have and then moves forward for as many picks as nescessary. In the Rookie draft you have to nominate the International rookies and scholarship playes that you are going to take, the AFl then allocates them to your last pick and then moves forward as nescessary.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
