It seems that apparently there are no invitees to attend any preseason training with Melbourne. This strikes me as quite odd given the plethora of delistings and the fact we have PSD #1

For sure there are more than a few players delisted for good reasons. We ourselves have done so but there are also more than a handful of players who still have more upside than not. Some are superfluous to the requirements of particular teams either by the type ( position) or age and/or clubs perception of windows and such.

Im past years we've often had one or two train with us...and this year none or so it seems.

Is there a reason ...club mandated ? Always thought such preseason invitations offered up a chance to get close scrutiny on potential recruits.

Interested in views and or the genuine reasons.

I think we are struggling to delist enough players to use our first 5 picks in the National Draft, so there doesn't seem to be any additional spots available. If we don't get Ball we may go for another uncontracted player and I would imagine they would know enough about him without him training with us.

If Ball decides to stay with the Saints we may invite a couple down but somehow I doubt it.

Perhaps waiting on final list lodgements on 13 November

also occurred to me...but I would have thought one or two ( out of already delisted ) might have been worth a close squiz.

13 Nov doesnt give a lot of time.. possibly enough granted, to make an evaluation. Maybe 2-3 weeks is sufficient.

given the nature of potentially rookying senior ( other club ) players I might have thought some players might have been worth the time.

I don't think it's that much of a concern at this point in time. I reckon we'll have a few down after the ND has taken place so we can suss out a few we might be interested in as rookie/PSD candidates. Until then there's probably not a great deal of point.

I'd say we are waiting for the final decision from Ball. No point inviting someone down and then a week later saying "sorry - no more room on the list."

I like to see the Dees snatch someone who is training at another club in the PSD. haha. Like Jurrah last season take a player who another club has paid to have a look at and we snatch them away, if they are good enough for our great club of course..

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May
