Demons hold the key to Gold Coast draft pick

Alex Keath is a 17-year-old Melbourne Grammar student who is being keenly sought by both Cricket Victoria and the Gold Coast Football Club.

At the moment, the promising 196cm all rounder Keath, who was a key player in MGS's cricket and football premierships in 2008, is a Demon.

He is playing in the Melbourne Cricket Club firsts in Premier Cricket today.

Based on all reports he would make a great AFL player as well but it's probably unlikely that he will be able to emulate past stars such as Max Walker, Graeme Watson and 1964 grand final hero Neil Crompton by being a Demon in both cricket and football.

Interesting. Can you give us anymore info alpha. Ie. Are the Demons aware of this kid? The Melbourne Football Club that is.

No doubt they would be, but as he's one of the 17-year-olds available to the Gold Coast as a priority selection, Prendergast and co wouldn't have spent too much time thinking about him.

He's not yet been signed to GC but recent reports suggested that he is a certainty to be among the last batch of recruits.

Like Josh Toy - who likely would have been a top-three selection in this year's draft - he was never really a consideration for the Demons, or any of the other existing clubs.

I've heard the name before, why?

Didn't he stand opposed to Jack Watts in a schoolboy game a year ago, when we were all debating Watts/NikNat/Rich? Big age difference but I think I remember someone saying 'this kid Keath kid matched Watts very well'. Suggestion that being held by such a young player was a bad sign and a question mark on Watts?

Correct weight. Keath played FB on Watts in the BGS v MGS match in the APS football comp last year.

Yes he was Jack's direct opponent for the day. However he never able to go head to head with Keath at any time during the match except for a few occasions late in the game where Jack managaged to snare 3 goals in the last quarter and get Brighton back from 6 goal deficit. Keath played well, but Jack was 1 on 3 and was bombed on his head all day, ala Nick Reiwoldt in the grand final this year. This is not a worrrying sign at all.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
