Essentially:

- GWS get to select 12 x 17 yr olds next year, much the same as GC17 has done this year, which means the upcoming 2010 ND will be further weakened before GC17 even touches it.

- GWS will get pretty much exactly the same draft picks in the 2011 draft as GC17 is getting in 2010 (no differences as far as I can tell - might only extend to round 3 though for the 1st pick of the round)

- GWS will get the first 8 picks in the 2010 Rookie Draft, similar to what GC17 get this year.

Other assorted conditions that don't really affect us too much.

They can poach out-of-contract players from our list, but this can be avoided by signing up said player with an extension before the season concludes.

It also outlines compensation if this does occur.

*** Now, the suspicious thing for me is this sentence in regards to the selections GWS get in the 2011 ND -

"Please note that these selections have priority over any other special assistance / priority selections which may be available to other clubs, as per the rule that applies to the Gold Coast FC for the 2010 Draft."

Does this include Father-Son selections..? See where I'm going with this??

Its inconclusive, but a travesty if this is the case.

I wouldn't have thought "Father-Son" falls under "special assistance" or "priority selections", unless the AFL specifically included "Father -Son" selections. Hopefully it is just an oversight and is clarified.

I wouldn't have thought "Father-Son" falls under "special assistance" or "priority selections", unless the AFL specifically included "Father -Son" selections. Hopefully it is just an oversight and is clarified.

It just shows how the next two years drafts are going to be an abslute bust for the existing clubs. The draft concessions are bad enough, but they will have already picked the eyes out of the best kids before they even get their concessions.

Rookies from 2010 will be allowed to remain on an AFL club's list for three years and the minimum required delistings of three players per club would result in a rookie being allowed to be included in one of the three footballers replaced on a senior list.

I would think theres nothing stopping the club renegotiating new contracts in 2011 carrying them through all this rough turbulence. We wont lose anyone we really want to keep

there mangers will advise them to wait for the new team, to offer them big money,we will not be able to match it, they are going to have more of a salary cap,i wonder if clubs can go to court and sue the afl for salary cap breaches, givin some clubs more money,maybe next time when a club breaches there salary cap,they can use it as a defence.

GC will still be establising itself, whilst the West Sydney Abismals wont have kicked a serious ball in real footy anger having only played magoo level . These guys will still be able to get some good money from Melbourne.

Each club only gets one player from the exiting 16 but granted GWS has two years in which to do it.

Im not particularly concerned about any mass exodus from the Dees...we will just be coming into our own and WE will be a team many will be vying to play for.

Also bear in mind that there has been little to no interest from the public in a team in West Sydney. This area already has two sports they are mad about in Rugby and Soccer. I think they will struggle to attract players to a club with no real prospects of a significant supporter base. There will be some sellout types (like the ones flocking to Carlton right now) who will go for the money wave their premiership hopes goodbye, but I think serious footballers will prefer to stay with clubs that have a hope of success.
