Thanks.

Were you alluding to that Buckley may have been approached by Carlton, and/or walked or wanted to leave after consultation with club (s) during the trade period ? Hence "BINGO"

My understanding is that Brett Ratten has pushed him into walking, similar to CJ, by offering him more game time and a financially more sound offer.

yeah well he got alot of game time this year, somehow i dont think rattens the wonder coach the blues think he is,lets see how he travels without a 90goal a year FF, hes the only coach in the AFL that wanted CJ, let him have buckley.

In fairness CJ was injured quite a bit this season - but I agree he didnt have the year he would have been hoping for.

Re: Buckley - I would have thought that Carlton had to address more pressing needs than another 188-190 cm player.

I find myself skimming threads these days until I find a poster I like and then stop and have a look. Needless to say, I don't read much.

Good to see you read all my posts then...

Seriously, though, isn't that what everyone does?

Buckley grew up supporting the MFC so that would be pretty disappointing if true. If he has been told he isn't a required player by the footy department I don't have a problem with him leaving however. I guess we don't know all the facts at the moment, it will be interesting to see the what comes of this rumor.

McNamara has signed a new contract.....

I have no details of the length of the contract, but all I can say is "A certain social networking site told me" :P

On Shane Valenti, he has been delisted as we all know, the club has to give him a chance to nominate for the National Draft, if he doesn't get picked up in the National or PSD, are we able to draft him again in the rookie draft? I think we can.

I have wondered about this as well he is 22 but turns 23 next january. I also wondered wether the club is prepared to pay him an amount which would push him through to the rookie draft. Although he only played 6 games this year his stats stack up well against more experienced players. We'll have injuries next year and it would be good to have a ready to go replacement.

Why would you bother?

If MFC were that enamored with Valenti they would have elevated him last year or this year.

Why sweat over dime a dozen fringe players who have been determined not part of our future?

Why would you bother? because you have a player who we know can do a job against 1st pick in the rookie draft in a compromised draft. Because he is only 22 The MFC only has 5 spots at the moment and this is a way of keeping a decent footballer at the club who could be promoted next year when the draft is mega compromised.

"dime a dozen fringe players " Any other insults you want to throw at a guy whose tried his heart out for the MFC?

If he was up to standard they would have elevated him permanently.

"dime a dozen fringe players is a fair assessment of where he is at as player not for the effort he put.

Continue with your fawning of the ordinary.

Melbourne should have promoted Valenti last year and not used their last draft pick on Bail. Nothing against Bail, Valenti is just better.

Prodigal_Son is right, you really have no respect for Valenti and take every opportunity you can to kick the guy while he is down.

Bail's barely played a game yet.

I've got to agree with this post.

Valenti unfortunately for him is a known quantity and he just doesn't meet the physical requirements of AFL, or rather, the good parts of his game aren't good enough to compensate for his shortcomings.

I'd choose to roll the dice on a player like Bail every time.

Endeavour is a great thing, but it will only get you so far in this game.

This might sound really harsh, but does Valenti remind anyone of "Rudy"?

It's an interesting point, however I believe that Valenti has been very much underrated by the club and the gamble with a late draft pick was not worth taking.

For how many years now have we had Valenti playing in our VFL team?

I think he does offer the team some good things, but look at the things we might be losing by giving him a position in the midfield.

And he can't play anywhere else on the field.

I think Valenti suffers a bit from being a me-too player in that he's good without brilliance ( at AFL level ) With the likes of Scully and Trengove coming into the middle there becomes less need for another 2nd level midfielder. he offer a bit of depth and thats about it. It will probably be perceived that there is better quality yet to be matured for these positions and so he's expendable.

In time we'll know exactly why Bucks didnt make it. The thing Im wondering is who if anyone will go next friday ? I just have this funny feeling the FD is just watching and waiting on a few before making that final decision. I dont think the axe has been put away just yet as their thinking might be that there is still going to be someone interesting to take at 34 with more upside than some still on the list.

Valenti offers far more than just "endeavour", his football smarts, awareness, quick hands, good footskills and leadership have been much underrated by many. It's just a shame because he was showing more than McLean in the last half of this year.

And clearly overrated by a few.

That aint hard. In the last half of the year I did not think McLean did much either.

The Club did well to get 11 for McLean.

Its telling even with McLean going there still is not a spot for Valenti.

At VFL level, maybe.

At AFL level, I saw slowness, no awareness, not the best footskills, and little leadership. But a ton of endeavour.

Of course, he only played, what, 15 games. But from those 15 games, I've seen basically nothing of what you've seen. And I'm sure if the FD saw all that, they'd have kept him.

I guess for me the big question is who we would drop next year so he could get a run and I can't think of anyone. Maybe it was better that he gets a shot in the draft and can maybe get picked up by a club who is overhauling their mids.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
