Brock McLean has left the building

I love it :)

I suppose I haven't reached your level of detachment, I still actually enjoy supporting players as individuals, as well as the club.

You obviously don't feel the same, lucky you.

I'm shattered, especially since Brock will be going to f'ing Carlton!!!!! :(

buddy, mind telling us the other name(s) that you know? i will believe you if you say it, unlike those other tossers, jk

haha, check out the quotes

He's pretty much saying Davey.

Question for anyone who knows: If another player wanted to leave that we felt was required can we put them in the PSD and redraft or can they pick the draft they want.

I can't see Davey leaving, but then I couldn't see Brock leaving either.

Davey has had a huge amount going on behind the scenes with his indigenous development efforts. He's doing huge things for the club, and is well and truly entrenched with the surrogate family of indigenous players. Surely that would be enough to keep him with us? I doubt he'd be able to get more money at a good club. We have more room to maneuver than most in that regard.

I'm happy. As posted earlier I couldn't see McLean in my 2012 team.

Three picks in the top 11 unless they on trade it. Once there's a name to pick 11 supporters we'll be in a better position to evaluate.

Thumbs up.

If Davey leaves it will be an ever bigger PR disaster than it would be a football disaster, not to mention the possible impact it'll have on Aussie and Jurrah (anyone else thinking that Aussie may not have signed yet as he's waiting to see what happens with Davey?? :o)

Get your [censored] together Melbourne, and don't undo all the great work of the past 2 seasons.

Half of me is annoyed because I rated him.

The other half of me is feeling the same way I did when CJ left - if you don't want to play for the mighty Red and Blue you can p!ss off.

Thered be more to it than that i recon.

I recon mclean realised how we have those 3 similair players and that i change may do him and the club better. Either that or the club sat down with him and said hed struggle to get a game due to that.

This has hit me pretty hard actually dont no why, probably because of how loyal and passionate i thought brock was for the club.

Also his going to carlton!

Ok i will not reveal my source - you would not believe it... The very same source has said the following .. Davey wants out - to play with his brother, the players as a group have no idea what the game plan is and there is much anger about the C.J send off. I know i will not be believed but it was the same conversation about brock. We will have to work hard to keep Flash.

When a star leaves drop me a line.

If they're not a star and we're well compensated I couldn't give a toss.

I am fuming, this club has gone to [censored] in the way it has tried to attract and or keep players and the treatment of them, robbo, woey, ox all shunted

mclean who bled for this club is going, we are supposedly trying to build a new culture and all I see is more failures, I am fcuking so angry, and the fact he will be wearing a fcuking carlton top next year is just too fcuking much, this club needs to have a good hard look at itself where we keep [censored] players and trade those who have a bit of passion for the place.

If they want me to re sign next year they better give me a fcuking good explanation on why they could not keep Mclean and what lengths they went to.

Good and succesful clubs keep their players, we are ending up like port. Except they can win a flag every now and then.

Chill dude.

We have only one press release from the club. The rest is speculation. If things go totally pear-shaped I'll agree with you, but they're not there at the moment. McLean is a loss, but we can cover it. We don't have anything else but worst-case scenarios being thrown up in panic. I'll wait until the club tells us something before I worry too much.

Agreed with the Johnstone trade and agreed with the Woewodin trade. This one is a little different. In the cold light of day I think we could do OK out of this trade but it just means some more short term pain. Wait and see approach required.

In saying all that, McLean has given his all and given us some pretty good memories for a short career. F### the Blues!

Brock was a good player but was never going to be a star. I think he actually did us a favour because Brock, Jones and Moloney were not going to fit into a team with grimes, blease, strauss, bennell, sylvia, morton, scully and probably trengove/martin coming into it. 1 of those 3 had to go and i'm actually happy it was Brocky. Jones is a better player and Moloney grew up barracking for the dees so he isn't going anywhere.

Brock has done us a favor because now we can get a quality tall with pick 11.

Rebuild complete.

1 = Scully

2 = Trengove/Martin/Rohan

11 = Talia or maybe Butcher will slide but i would prefer Talia

Frightening thought. Davey is much more to the club than just a great player. His loss could be devastating. Throw the checkbook at him to get him to stay I'd say. Perhaps arrange for a captaincy after Junior retires.

Hmmmm. The plot sickens. Makes the tanking vs winning culture dabate a bit more lively.

where are you getting all of this 'insider information'?

why would the dees swap our 3rd round pick for their 3rd round in the deal? shouldnt they give us pick 11 and their 3rd round pick for say our 4th round pick and brock? he was pick 5 in his year!

never go against the Dr

... ok so I was wrong about the 3rd round swap .. lol

Im really not shattered. It was his choice. I think if we got rid of him i'd been annoyed. But i can see his point. He has been there for a few years now without playing in a whole heap of finals. He can see at Carlton he will play finals for a few years. If carlton are stupid enpugh to give us pick 11 then Id say take it. 4 new kids in the top 18 will help us in the future. It will be weird playing against him though.

Well does that male Bruce the obvious choice for captain now? It will also open the door for Grimes in the future.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
