It was one caller only. I have been trying to get info but drawing a blank. It was unusual as the bloke wasn't a Melbourne supporter and called about something else and mentioned it as an afterthought.

Still just a rumour from a caller to SEN.

Yes i heard the same call, it was almost an off the cuff remark.

But i will keep the ears open.

I both hope that this is not true, and highly doubt that it is true.

The only way this would be true is if he severly breeched his contract/club code of conduct.

Agree with 45h16, he would have to have breached team rules and done something drastic to be sacked one would of thought. Someone might just be stirring the pot. Otherwise Hutchy would be all over this like a rash for tonights Footy Classified.

Sad but true..Either Way he is going to cost us money next year, as he won't get a game. Very Expensive Scorps player....

Thats the thing, I dont think it was stirring the pot. Why would you pick Newton, a fringe player to stir the pot. Sylvia, Davey or even better Buddy. This bloke called with a genuine discussion I think about the Hawks then tacked on the end, "I heard that Michael Newton has been sacked by Melbourne." It was a strange one.

I reckon the bloke may have had his facts wrong. Perhaps he got his Newtons mixed up with his Wheatleys??

PLEASE BE TRUE

I'm sure some of the players read this board at times. There's no need to say stuff like that. He's a top bloke and I'm sure he doesn't need his own supporters slagging him off.

PLEASE BE TRUE

You're going a long way to being tool of the year on here.

Why would you get excited that he's going? He's not hurting the club. If anything, it just makes MFC look bad if we let him go now. That, and we don't have the opportunity to delist him the respectful and correct way.

So he wasn't up to it. So what? You pull on the boots and play in the Red and Blue. See if you kick any goals, win MOTY.

Get over it, hes just saying hes hoping Newton gets delisted which i would say a lot of us are because we are sick of him taking up a spot on the list and being such a bad player.

Is a public forum dude he is not insulting the player or anyone else so stop being so sensitive about it! And i highly doubt players read this forum, a lot of papers dont even read newspapers let alone fan forums. Im sure they have more to do with their time!

Actually DD, I'd say that in a way his presence on the list is harmful. We're going to have a tough time delisting players this year, and he should be the first to go. If we're after 6 vacancies (1, 2, 18, 34, PSD 1 & 1 rookie elevation), then we need to find 3 characters to add to Robbo, Whelan and Wheatley. Obviously I'm not advocating dumping listed players, but there are going to be one or two stiff blokes next month.

He is contracted, so no. I wouldn't condone sacking a young player who is contracted, even if he is crap. May as well let him TRY and develop for another year.

Good call Dappa!

I'm not a huge fan of Newton, but first of all he deserves some respect.........he's done more than I could ever hope to on the footy field, and achieved something I would love to have, and that's to pull on the red and blue and run out onto the MCG!

And from a reputation point of view, the last thing we want to look like is an employer looking to get out of contracts by unfairly cutting players.

There was some bad press when we cut Carroll early, and then there was a legitimate reason then. Newton has a contract, and has the right to play it out with the club.

Unless he has done something off the field to Void his contract like carroll did. Lets see how this pans out.

PLEASE BE TRUE

Hey, he is a human being ,not a piece of ###$%%

His efforts may not be up to your perfect standard, but I will bet he has attempted to make it. WHich is probably more than your negative "  ëfforts"

I hope it's just rumor and isn't true. Although I like many don't believe Newton has a long term future at the club I would much rather us trade him for a low draft pick that we don't use then sack him mid contract, at least that way he'd have an opportunity to relaunch himself at a new club.

And for the record I suspect if Newton was a much straighter kick, then many of us would feel a lot differently about him.

You obviously didn't see Robbo's comments in the Age re comments made on blogs that really do offend players. I think you would be surprised who reads this forum. So maybe we should contain our comments to legitimate arguments and not personal insults. We can all have opinions but keep in mind that some on this forum can be offensive in the extreme and we really don't know who reads what.

Correct weight, I've been a big supporter of his... I really feel it is just a confidence thing with Juice, and if he can string some games together for Melbourne in a row, I really feel he'll come on...

There's obviously a reason why the club gave him a 2 year contract last year, they do see that he's got something... He's taken longer than others, but remember he was drafted a year later than Colin Sylvia, and he's only just realising his potential as a midfielder... We know it is generally harder for the forwards...

Work hard this pre-season Juice, work hard on your kicking, look forward to seeing you in the red and blue next year...
