Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Scott to coach Roos

In something of a surprise ( to me ) The Kangas have opted for Collingwood assistant coach and former Brisbane Lions premiership player Brad Scott.

Might this make it easy now for Hardwick to take over at TiggyLand ?

edit:

this too

That's a great appointment, from our vantage point. Premiership player, coaching at a club where clearly the coaching panel and footy department (and medical/recovery department) are responsible for a titanic surge in productivity.

Was he midfield coach at the Pies? If so, I'm a touch jealous.

Did Hardwick pull out or was he over looked?

No, he simply didnt get the gig. Youd have to think his last real opportunity is Richmond

a very BIG part of being selected for such a job is the ability to sell yourself

It is amazing how many average players get the top coaching position

Our own coach Dean Bailey is a perfect example

Without inside knowledge i would think the Kangaroos have made a wise choice

Whats the bet MANY of their fans will not agree with the decison

Ross Lyon

Alistair Clarkson

Sounds familiar

I agree.

And the three kangas supporters I've spoken to today were happy when they got the text.

I'm impressed with this decision too.

He was Part of the 3peat was he not? At least 2. You cannot buy that experience from everybody.

The Tigers have once again been skinned.

Maybe they will move to Tasmania in a few years.

He played in the 2001 and 2002 premierships. Also played in the 2004 GF loss. He played every game in 2003 but missed the finals, so even though he wasnt technically a part of the 3-peat, he was a big part of it.

From all reports he is brilliant with matchday analysis. Good signing by the Roos. Good luck to them.

Hinkley is another, don't rule him out of being coach of the Tigs.

Brad Scott is a good appointment, I wish him all the best. Having played under the likes of Matthews with 3 Premierships and having been assistant to Malthouse for 3 years. Even taking the reigns a few times when Malthouse was absent. Good appointment. Well suited to North with a young list to work with.

What's being an average player got to do with getting the top coaching position? The days of playing coaches are over.

Anyway, Scott was hardly in the same league as a Bailey or Clarkson, who achieved far less on the football field.

I assume you mean last real opportunity for this year..? According to some reports he doesn't want it.

Anyhow, what's going on with Harvey and Freo? Surely he's in the gun. Maybe the Club decided there were too many roles up for grabs this year.

I'm surprised they even have applicants to interview. No, I don't really mean that....haha.

Fair dinkum, I know some would argue, "And you can talk!" But how would you be growing up in a Tigers family as kids. Since '83/'84 onwards. Looking at their list now: - Richo, Pettifer, Schultz, Brown, Coghlan, Simmonds, Polak, to name just a few that they will have to clear out or replace in the next year or two. Not exactly easy with GC and WS on the horizon and compromised drafts. They're a loong way from a chance at success. Still.

Something(s) happened at Richmond after 82, somewhat similiar to ourselves in '64, the difference being i don't think we had nearly as much in fighting.

I have no doubt we bottomed out just in time, as long as these last 2 weeks go to plan.

Richmond shall be a barren place for at least another decade, which is why they could become the Tasmanian Tigers sometime down the Track.

It shall be interesting to see how many members the Tigers pull next year, many supporters i think have had a gutfull.

It will be a tough decision for Hardwick, Not many have coached again after leaving the Richmond Train wreck. Personally i wouldn't touch it.

Im not savvy that much regarding Richmond...but is Gale going home ( to them ) a bit like Jimma taking control of the Dees ? Is he able to impart sufficient confidence in any incumbant to allay those nagging doubts of a wannabe ( but cagey ) coach ?

Many people have gone home to Richmond in the last 27 Years only to be spat out not long after, so with Benny Gale returning i can only say Time will tell.

Benny is a Top Bloke, who years ago lived not far from me so i had a few coffees & Beers with him around the time he retired as a player.

Always entertaining to watch the Tigers from afar

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
