Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

So has everyone cooled on Butcher and wouldn't even consider him as a potential number 2 pick anymore? I still like the prospect of

1. Scully

2. Butcher

18. Jetta

More so then

1. Scully

2. Trengove

18. Panos

Think there's less risk with the first option as the go home factor wont play into it as Jetta will at least be over here with his cousin and the other two players are Victorian?

The last thing on Trengove's mind will be going home when he playing in a premiership side.

Some seem to be wanting / hoping/ dreaming that a higher projected pick will slip through to 18. I just cant see this happenig this year. Theres not that type of depth as with previous years that will allow many teams tol go for a particular positional player after say 7-8. Teams will just be grabbing whatever is there at around this mark.(and so will we ) Whoever is there at 18 will be most likely that order of player.

Its in this light you have to think that there is more value possibly with 18 as regards trading. The difference for us between say 18 and 30 may not be a lot but it might entice anothter club to package there pick with something ( someone )

I really liked Rohan from the carnival too. He seemed to have flair in abundance, the lack of which is my one (admittedly slight) concern about Trengove. But looking at the TAC reports he doesn't seem to be anywhere much. Has he been injured? Or playing a lot for his school like Scully?

He's playing, he's just not imposing himself on enough contests. When he gets the footy however he does some amazing things. He's so quick off the mark and his ability to break tackles with ease his one of his main attributes.

A very strong young man with a real x-factor.

I reackon Panos will go before pick 18. What about Fitzpatrick from the jets where do you think he will fall in the peaking order?

01/Saints 76 - 17

03/Magpies 52 - 15?

04/Bulldogs 48 - 14?

06/Blues 44 - 12?

07/Crows 44 - 11?

08/Power 36 - 10?

09/Bombers 34 - 9?

10/Swans 32 - 8? & 24?

11/Hawks 32 - 7?

12/Eagles 24 - 6?

13/Kangaroos 22 - 5?

14/Tigers 22 - 4?

15/Dockers 20 - 3

16/Demons 12 - 1&2?

I'd like to try to get a deal with the Swans, re trade for their 2nd Rnd pick (24ish) for maybe Brad Miller + a sweetener, maybe Wheaters or something.

I'd like to get Colyer if he slips through, I'd also like Panos or Carlisle, if they were to be still around. If we were able to aquire an early 2nd Rnd pick, that would be very handy.

Who realistically could we use to tempt the Swans to trade?? Thoughts?

Awe, BB-59, there'll be some very good players around the early 2nd Rnd.

IMO it tapers away after 30-ish.

Miller + pick 34? I think they might want to keep their picks though, they are rebuilding. Still, you never know.

Theres a rumour going about, that there still keen for Brad Miller.

I've heard it up here. They remember the day he played one good game in defence on BBB. Hit hm off the ball and generally frustrated Hall into one of his poorer outings for the year. And now they are 2 KPF's down and with limited scope/patience for a rebuiild, I reckon they are made for one another. Roos' has got some mileage out of duds previously (eg Ted Richards & LRT) but Miller could be the start of his un-making.

I have thought exactly the same thing. I saw have seen him play 3 times and would have thought he might get picked in the first round but it seems like he won't. Somestimes I wonder if the Victorians get a bit of an advantage with exposure...but it will hopefully be a good thing for us.

Go the Norwood redlegs ;)

Thats true with the exposure, thats 1 of the reasons why the SANFL is still strong & pulls good crowds because alot of the young guys here dont get noticed in VIC.Hope it works in our favour this year with Panos.Yep im i REdlegs member & love the club, theyre going just as bad as the DEES though this year.By the way i talk to a bloke by the name of Alex Stopp everyday & he plays league for Norwood.Hes just turned 19 & is 193cm & 85kgs & still growing.Went to the draft camp & thought he might of got picked up last year.Crows & power both had him train with them & Essendon,Carlton & Richmond spoke to him. This year he has stepped up to league & has been named the equivelant of AFL rising star earlier in the year in his 1st league game.Has stood Mcgregor,Willits,Damon White etc & has been very good.Just thought id mention this cos today he tells me he likes the Dees,i know we dont need a key back but he would be a very good 4th or 5th round pick after we take the 2 mids & 1 KPF.Can play CHB or FB & think he would be pretty handy & as i say he likes the DEES & wouldnt mind heading over there

is panos tall enough to be the kpf we want?

Well going buy his figures ive got in the footy programme he is 193 & 85kg.As examples,Jonathan Brown is 195cm,Bradshaw is 191cm,Fevola is 191,roughead is 193,Mooney 195 so he stacks up pretty well with them & obviously he will still grow a bit more.Hes the same size roughly as Newton & Miller & is actualy taller than Neitz so hope that helps

I don't think miller is a "Dud", but rather a player of limited skills, who happens to be a very hard & honest worker. Also a leader amongst his peers.

The problem with Miller, I think, is he needs to play, not with struggling youngsters, just learning the game, but rather needs to be amongst other mature bodied senior players, to get the best out of himself.

I think he'd be a better player with a team like Sydney, just because of their environment @ Sydney.

Panos at 18 would be massive. 2 elite midfielders and the U18 All-Australian Full Forward. Ideal outcome in my eyes.

I'm hoping one of Jake Carlisle or Panos is still available at 18. If we could get one of these two, or perhaps Talia, i'd be very happy with that.

What are the chances of us passing on Trengove and Morabito and take Gary Rohan at pick 2? Other than Scully, Rohan was the player who most impressed me at the Championships this year.

Would be similar to the 2005 National Draft when Collingwood overlooked clear 2nd best player Xavier Ellis to instead take draft-day bolter Dale Thomas at 2. If we did go with Rohan i'd hope that he'd turn out better than Thomas!

Neitz was 193cm too if i remember correctly.

On Panos, I read somewhere recently that at the end of 2008 he was 190cm or thereabouts, and has since grown to 193cm. He's probaly still growing too, and out on the field in the u18's, against juniors at least, he did look like a big unit. Will be interesting results come draft-camp.

If he's available at our 3rd pick we must take him.

There is a post in this thread on this page that leads me to believe Trengove should be Pick 2.

You only get one guess as to which post swayed me...

It has to be Freak annointing Morabito.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
