You may have missed the fact that the club publicly stated earlier this year (or late last) that not withstanding Watts receiving number 4 in future new draftees will be given higher numbers until they earn a lower one.

Really? I missed that too then. A bit surprising, that. I don't understand exactly why the lower numbers are so special.

Keep in mind Watts's #4 was part of a big publicity event. Historically ( but not always ) lower numbers were reserved for the starting team and or the more senior players. This of course changed over the years but generally a number under 40 or there abouts meant you werent walking onegg shells week in week out.

Combine this with the special heritage of certain numbers through the years gived added meaning to the jumpers.

You haven't mentioned a bloke by the name of Watts. He was an extremely valued draft pick, just as Scully and Trengove would be...Watts was given 4, I can see Scully being given the recently famed #9.

I would've thought it would be the most famous at our club, and the current #31 does not do it/him justice.

I wouldn't mind putting money on Scully getting #9 though. And I'm not a betting man.

That said...it hadn't occured to me that Wheatley holds #31 and Scully wears #32, so perhaps he will get 31?

There was talk earlier in the year of a young guy from NT who was lured down to Casey by Davey. Anyone know who that was or what his draft prospects would be?

Pierce Liddle from NT, played in the NT-U/18 sides.

Would love to see scully in the no. 31 and I reckon he will get it. I reckon the FD will follow the same tradition as they did with watts with the no.4 and the link with Norm Smith. And i would give the no. 9 hopefully to trengove.

Now, given that we are contractually obliged to select one NT player every draft, here's a couple of troppo prospects we might look at second round or later if we're lucky.

Troy Taylor – No relation to teammate Mitch, he wears the lime green boots and plays like someone who wears lime green boots. He has got some Daniel Motlop about him. He is brilliantly quick on the lead and can take some spectacular marks and kick some great goals. He's got the bells and whistles and it's exciting when it gets in his area. He has some great natural talent. He has kicked six goals from three games.

Draft eligibility: 2009 NAB AFL Draft

Roland Ah Chee - Roland had 33 disposals, 11 marks, five clearances and six hard-ball gets. He pretty much did everything. I've seen Roland play at under 16s level and in last year's under 18 champs. He looks like he's got himself a lot fitter this year, as his work-rate against Tassie was outstanding. Roland really willed himself on to the contest. He has debuted this year in the SANFL and has been consistent at reserves level. Roland was also a very talented tennis player.

If there's one thing that the TAC Future Stars Phantom Draft did, it's reassure me that there will be a good few options available at our second round pick, and that trading a player and pick 33(ish) for a higher pick would be a good call. (I.e. Miller to Sydney, they'll love eachother!)

Can't gold coast get these players for nothing.
