Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

if he asked for a trade I'd show him the door. For 5 years we stood by as he wasted our time with self-destructive behaviour, and gave us nothing on the field. He owes us plenty, because many other clubs would have thrown him out on his arse by now. He should be thankful that he still has a career, cop his 'punishment' for being a tool and getting himself suspended and move on.

That makes sense. However, I go back to the start of the year where people were wanting to trade Col for whatever we could get. At the time there were a chorus of people who were hoping he'd play great footy this year, only to up his price, then send him on his way to the GC, or Collingwood or whoever wanted him for the highest bidder. The rationale was that his OP is always a risk, his consistency so far in his career has been non-existent, so if we could net a first rounder that'd be a bargain. The problem with that is that he's been fantastic for us this year. If he WERE to be traded for a good pick in the last unaffected draft, and then go on to great things, the club would lose all credibility, and we'd be the laughing stock of the comp. So it'll never happen.

Why the hell do McDonald and Bruce not get a run down there?

Because they're some of the best players on the list. One is in a steep decline, and deserves to remain there to complete the tank and play his last 5 games in the manner of which he played the other 200 odd. The other is our best player in peak form.

This is Baileys worst mistake yet.

I hope we lose by 17 points tomorrow.

I know Y_M is something of an enigma, but I just can not understand how you can be pro-tank, but anti-Sylvia-for-Casey at the same time. If Sylvia plays for MFC this week, we risk winning, it's as simple as that.

What I can't understand is how a moderator here can be surprised that Y_M doesn't make sense?!!

Can someone please clarify, his selection for Casey this week was due to the suspension from the tribunal and the undisciplined at that caused it? If that is the case then there can be no doubt of our club's intentions this year, they want Scully plain and simple. You're absolutely right YM, Sylvia has done everything to deserve being called up straight back into the seniors, but even he (who thought the Tour de France was for one day only!) would know what's really going on.

CRIKEY!

Or maybe, just like Jarad Rivers a few years ago, coaches get [censored] off when their best players get suspended for undisciplined acts and make a point by bringing them back through the 2s. Colin Sylvia owes more to the MFC than the MFC owes to Colin Sylvia. I think it says more about the juvenile hero worship of players that the notion of Sylvia spitting the dummy and walking from the club is even on the radar. From his interview earlier in the year I see a new sense of maturity in Colin and his desire to make his mark, I think he understands more about the notion of 'club' and loyalty than some posters.

Come on, even you can't be that dumb!

3 goals against Richmond tomorrow could be the difference between Scully and no Scully, so just give it a rest.

It actually says a lot about how far he's come that we are now trying to keep him out of the team for tanking reasons!

Edit: if he asked for a trade I'd show him the door. I have no doubt he will (whether you do as well, is another matter).

Tanking is obviously in full swing. He should have played and would have had he played for any side in the 8.

He has Untapped potential and no club in their right mind would get rid of him.

His best football will be in the next 5 years, I want him doing it for us not against us.

It's amazing how quickly perceptions can change in football. Not that long ago Sylvia was considered untradeable, Garland and Warnock were hacks and McLean was the next captain in waiting. Now Sylvia is virtually crucial for our next tilt at the title.

In some ways Sylvia let the team down with his undisciplined play. I like to think, though, that he (along with two others which is a story that deserves it's own thread) may be responsible for us receiving the priority pick.

I have no doubt that if Sylvia was playing last week Bailey would have struggled to hide him somewhere on the ground when the game was there to be lost. Similiar story with later today against the tiggers. He is a match winner, he can take contested marks, win his own ball, tackle fiercely and kick long goals.

The prospect of the likes of Scully and Trengove feeding the ball to Sylvia and Jurrah (hell, throw in Blease as well, I'm feeling generous this morning) and it's simply mouth watering. I normally take joy in teeing off on YM, he's such an easy target and it's often an enjoyable past time on a lazy Sunday morning to make fun of our resident village idiot, but in this case he deserves all the kudos he can get. Not once did he waiver in his admiration for the kid, whether it was here on demonland or in the early days when he was allowed to grace the pages of bigfooty, he stayed true when the rest of us were baying for blood.

Mate, I hope in the years to come you're rewarded with the sight of Sylvia and Bailey holding up the cup so you can stick it to all of us, I'd be more than happy to shout you a beer and listen to your gloating all afternoon!!

I LOVE FOOTBALL!!

I agree with what you've said but be cautious. I remember one morning before the game teeing off on TJ for his total lack of application and good footy. That afternoon he played a blinder against the Saints and we won a game that was not on the radar for us. TJ went on to win a Bluey (a year or so later I think) but ultimately the original assessment was right. We were blessed to get out of that one!!

Sylvia reminds me of TJ in his football journey. Enormous talent largely unrealized, fantastic to watch when he's "up" and after a long time in football he suddenly has a epiphany.

Let's hope Colin really does make something of his career. I think he's got a chance because the infrastructure around him at the club is much better than TJ ever had.

All power to YM for his support (although I suspect much of it was just to annoy other posters) but if Col decides to walk out on MFC because he was forced to play for Casey yesterday then he's the flakey character of TJ and not a person strong enough to be a consistent AFL footballer.

It just goes to show what Sylvia means to Melbourne and how far he has come now that posters and the like would prefer him playing for Casey at this stage. In all due respect I can understand Y_M's take, Sylvia had served his time before today. Top line players deserve better.

They do.

But Sylvia is not top line, so I suppose he doesn't deserve better.

Has everyone gone mad here, where has it been said that he will leave at seasons end, or why he played yesterday and not today, no one here knows, so calm down folks it will soon be all over.

All depends how you interpret it. My interpretation is based on his performances to date this season. At Melbournefc he's considered 'in the top bracket of players' this season. I have no doubt he'd be up in the top half a dozen in the B&F. If it weren't for his suspension and this weeks 'missed game' he'd be in contention to win the B&F undoubtedly. Now it looks as though Davey could have it in the bag (Moloney out).

I guess you're entitled to your opinion, hotshot.

I agree, and fwiw I think Sylvia is desperate to prove himself at the club, I would be amazed if any sort of discussions along this line take place atm.

bs. col was suspended for 3 weeks. thats a long time out of footy. no matter who you are you should have a game with the 2s first. i have no problem with this at all. who knows what his form is like after no game for effectively 4 weeks? surely you would put someone into the team whose form was good, rather than pick someone whos form is unknown. and if you say he was in great form before his suspension id agree but thats a long time with no games.

Correct, I am entitled to my opinion.

Being in the "top bracket" at the MFC hardly underlines a player's case to be considered "top line." Sylvia this season has played 5-6 good games before his act of stupidity. He was also woeful before his good patch, which included games which we rated higher IMO because of his Hawthorn/Collingwood performances.

Again, being in contention to win the MFC B&F does not give you a case to consider yourself a top line player. Davey was playing excellent footy when Sylvia was being told by all and sundry at the club that he was not performing up to scratch, and continued to play decent footy whilst Sylvia enjoyed his good form. Davey's form has waned over the past month, no doubt because Sylvia has been out

I'm not the hotgod, 45 is ;)

Top line, IMO, is synonmous with elite. Ablett, Bartell, Judd, Hodge type players.

I don't think Davey is there. A lot of his disposals are handed off by teammates and he doesn't have the impact on games that he once had, nor does he score enough goals to be top line.

Brad Green is our closest player to top line IMHO.

I'll acknowledge that hotgod. (Hey, I thought Grimes was your new hotgod!?)

However, Colin Sylvia's best consistently - where does that put him, IYHO?

Hey, don't get me wrong.

Sylvia's best is some of the best I've seen from anyone in the Red and Blue this decade. My issue is that I've seen it twice this year and once last year. 3 times in two years. He's also had a handful of pretty good games this year and last. That is not top line and it's difficult to say "if Sylvia was consistent" because that's my problem with him being considered top line, he isn't consistent.

Grimes is well and truly approaching Whelan status, but I'm just unsure about the username change.

Let's hope he's had a Steve Johnson epiphany as opposed to a TJ epiphany.

Just on Bail, this from Tilly18 on Demonology:

That would explain his selection in the twos this week, it was probably just an arrangement with the club(s).

Although what I said earlier in the thread was relatively harmless, I feel like a bit of a [censored] right now.

Rohan Bail played a terrific game in an undermanned Casey reserves team against the Northern Bullants today. Kicked a goal and named in the best in a losing team.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
