Check this. Does it bother anyone else that the quote infers that they haven't yet spoken to Watts, Frawley, Sylvia or gawn's management?

"Neeld said Melbourne fans should rest assured that the club was leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to retain all three former first-round draft picks as well as securing the Demons' young stars of the future.

"We'll go and speak to their managers and see what they're thinking and speak to those players and continue to speak to them like all clubs," he said.

"We'll follow down that path, but… when we've got something concrete to say we'll offer it."

I hope Jack leaves and finds form at another club, no sarcasm in my thoughts. He needs a fresh start, unfortunately he cops too much of the MFC supporters frustration. Good luck Jack

I suppose nobody else has read this. Puts it all in a bit more perspective.

As I said earlier, the article saying Watts wants out is nothing more than speculation citing other speculative pieces as sources. It has no real value other than [censored]-stirring. Typical bored lazy journalism at the HS.

I don't believe journo's speculate!!!! Sarcasm aside good points

Whatever we do we must not trade for picks! End of story! Target seasoned players like Rich, Prestia etc.

no bother at all, i thought neeld spoke quite well on the subject

first time ive seen him looking relaxed as a matter of fact, so maybe everythings starting to fall into place

love the last line we"ll follow. big tick from me because just maybe the fd is finally in charge of the fd.

Neeld could take some pointers from Lyon about how to speak to journos without actually saying anything.

If Jack thinks he has it tough from the Melbourne fans, he would be shocked to hear what other clubs' supporters think of him. Melbourne fans stuck up for him a lot in the early years especially.

Yeah at other clubs there would be more than 15k supporters turning on him.

Imagine half of pattersons stadium turning on him.

And that's if they are playing the hometown rivals. It would be 90% of the stadium if it were against an interstate team.

If Watts 'wants' to leave then we should work hard to make sure we get a suitable trade.

Having said that IMO I think Watts is your typical late bloomer.

In 2-3 years I see him playing the role Richo played in his last few years at Richmond.

(Playing deep, high, left and right forward and running up the ground to provide the support/link up when needed but with better disposal)

Exactly. The message isn't the issue. The forum this issue is delivered in is the issue. Plain stupid to be honest and i thought so at the time.

RPFC's point in the post above that "most of Neelds words in public are poorly worded and haphazard and they get misconstrued constantly" is spot on. He is a head coach a and for any coach (in any sport) being a good communicator is a key competency. There are any number of examples of him making comments that are not clear, the recent one about 5 years being the most recent - a comment that had Mitch Clark perplexed. Its one reason why i think he should stop doing so much media. If your messaging makes things more confusing don't say anything.

I wonder whether his poor communication in the media extends to explaining to his players his game plan or what he wants them to do. The on field evidence suggests it does.

Much was made of him being a teacher and good teachers also have to be good communicators. I wonder if he was a good teacher?

Latest i have heard is "2 out of 3 of the aboriginal players at carlton and gibbs will be traded at years end, most likely a gibbs for watts"

Yeah great just watt we need !

So what is a fair trade for watts.

Just when he starts to deliver he makes it pretty clear on footy show tonight he already he has one foot out the door.

What is a fair trade, player or pick?

For me it has to be a top 10 pick or a decent starting mid.

Ps don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out and I don't know why I have defended you in the past....I feel violated!

Welcome to the club Gibbs!!!!

Bryce Gibbs will be just the same as Jack W.

soft. Not a good deal.

Do not get ANY Carlton players never ever they are softer than our lot

It's been four years now.

This player represents all that has been wrong with the club. No fire, little drive and no responsibility.

So out of the two jack watts threads we already have going you had to bump another one to tell us that?

I suppose I could have paraphrased all of the opinions in the thread from 2009 but I think it better that the opinions are presented in their original form.

The problems with Jack Watts' game haven't changed since he played his first games at Casey. We now have answers to some of the questions we were asking.

I look forward to moving on from discussing this bloke.

lets be on the same page

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
