When is it the construction due for completion? early next year?

If everything goes according to schedule, and an acceptable tender price is received, March 2010.

Are they going to increase the balcony or another Casey Scorp??

No balcony extension - the facilities are all admin upstairs (with offices looking out over the ground, some of which will be used on match day as coaches boxes, media etc). Extending the balcony in front of those offices would obscure the view of play from the offices.

Tenders are to be called tomorrow for the pavilion extension. There are perspective drawings on the Casey website which show the size of the extension relative to the existing building.

Anyone know what they're opening at Casey Fields today?

The Minister of Sport is opening the new spectator facilities on the outer side of the ground, prior to the main game which starts at 1:10pm.

The facilities are:

* covered terracing either side of the scoreboard

* canteen

* toilets

* a scoreboard on the grandstand side so that spectators on the outer side can see the score.

I don't want to sound critical here but I went to the Casey game last week and those facilities on the outer side of the ground appear to have very little going for them in terms of spectator amenities and offer no shelter from the elements. You would have to be a very hardy soul if you were going to be watching the game from there today with the high wind chill factor. It might be pleasant there on a nice summer's day but I thought this ground was supposed to be catering for winter sport.

I was also disappointed that the portable seating on the hff was removed. Standing in the void left behind was a bit of a risky proposition because a group of little leaguers decided to have some match practice among the spectators. It was good fun avoiding their errant kicks. So, if I venture out there today I think I might take advantage of the social club and watch from the balcony (hopefully, they keep kids with footies out of there :rolleyes: !)

Just mentioned on theh ABC coverage of todays game some murmurrings via the mayor that they ( Casey ) wouldnt mind seeing a 35000 capacity venue eventually..the Casey Field of Dreams :)
