If MFC obtain the No.1 draft pick....

Featured Replies

I know it's early, but the dawn of the new era is about preparation for the club.

Norm Smith wore No.4. The club put aside No.4 for the Number 1 draft pick in none other than Jack Watts.

What numbers are currently available, or vacant?

What possible tradition could the club possibly use - IF we were unfortunately given the number 1 draft pick for somehow finishing 16th? :o

Is there another legend, good feel story or a past great that could pass on a famous number?

There is Ronald Dale Barassi. However No.31 is taken by Paul Wheatley......

There's Jim Stynes. However No.11 is taken by Paul Johnson........

There is Steven Febey. However No.21 is taken by Daniel Bell........

There is Robert Flower. However No.2 is taken by Nathan Jones..........

What are some of the possibilities? 9? 13?...?

I'd love to see numbers 9 and 13 back on the ground.

9 is the obvious one...

Wouldn´t be at all surprised if 1, 21 and 31 were available at the end of the year...

Number 3 is another possibility, while i´d never question his application I´m not sure if Melbourne´s future has Clint in it.

Scully running around in 31 and Butcher running around in 9 probably excite a few people. If Jurrah turns it on in the next month or so and displays freaky skills he could stake a claim to ¨inherit¨ No. 13.

i think we will get pick 1 and 3. And i honestly think West coast will take butcher at 2...regardless of his current form and the fact he is a victorian. which mean our 3rd pick could be anyone.

Yeah i think Bartram will be gone....

give the two top picks numbers 3 and 9

Wow...talk about giving numbers of past heroes to current day duds...

OUT: Wheatley

IN: Scully

Call what it is, shameless marketing, but hey that's the world we created.

Given all your predictions of last year, you know - we weren't going to finish last, etc, then it's an absolute certainty that Butcher won't end up at West Coast.

In fact I'm now worried we won't get Scully given your prognostication that we'll finish with picks 1 and 3.

Didnt the club say.. (Watts aside).. That players would have to earn low numbers in the future.. That's why the other draftees all got high numbers..

no 9

I would go into fits if this was the case. 13 has been the number the fellas in my family have worn since my grand daddy played and I've always had 13 on my Dees jumper. I was most proud wearing it when Jacko was charging around.

numbers 31 and 21 will be available by the time next season comes around, and i also think 45,23,24 will all be available so there will be plenty of number swapping next season

West coast already have two big strong key forwards. Why would they waste their top pick on another? Morabito is their best bet. They need to replace what they lost with Judd and Cousins. Plus he's a local lad.

Kane Lucas will be the first W.A player to be picked in the draft, He is much better than Morabito.

Is he though..? I keep hearing this, but I've not seen anything that special from him. Yet.

Don't even dream it. If West Coast are on 4 or less wins, they will happily take Butcher. They have the best ruck in the comp but went Naitanui. You would be silly to not take the very best player available.

Your most accurate reply yet.

I think there has been a record number of number changes in the league coming into this year- but I don't think players should "earn" a lower number. One number change I didn't like was Wonaeamirri's from 39 to 33. And Stefan Martin's from 33 to 34? Is it because Stef Martin looks more like Jeff White than Jeff Farmer? And then Jetta moves to 39? I think that the club's trying to create a stereotype player for a corresponding number. Like James Frawley picking up Alastair Nicholson's old number (number 8, not 44) And Daniel Bell, Steven Febey's old number.

Anyway I think that John Butcher (presuming he comes to the club) will wear number 9 and Scully number 13.

The reason for the high number allocations is that Blease and Strauss both wanted No. 17. In the end, Strauss conceded with words to the effect of....OK I'll take no. 9 then. There endeth the allocation of low numbers. It happened after Watts was given No. 4, so next year all newbies may be given higher numbers.

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
