I'm thinking that Sam Blease has caused himself to fall behind a season due to his getting injured.

I wonder if it would help his knowledge & experience, if he were to sit in the Casey coaches box of the 2nds or seniors to help learn some of what he's missing?

Sure it was a blow what happened to him at school.

Im not worried though the slightest. He out of everyone was not ready this year due to his size being compared to a garden rake.

He is still at school in year 12 like a lot of kids who are yet to be drafted this year.

He is still gaining experience being in a club atmosphere, he will be hitting the gym hard i imagine as we speak and will be physically ready next year to earn a spot on the park.

He's already in front of most kids his age by being drafted young. This year is like a bonus year in his development. He gets to be a part of an AFL club, that's pretty good experience for a 17 year old student.

It is such a shame that this injury occurred but (to pick a small positive out of a giant negative) at least he injured his leg and not his arm. I'm sure the dees have him in weights room pumping some serious iron and getting his upper body strength up to scratch.

It is not a massive loss to have this guy out of the team and into the gym ATM.

Regardless of whether he would have played AFL footy or not, I think the injury is a huge blow for someone who needs significant development and a year with some time at Casey 1sts/2nds would have been invaluable.

I hope there are no legacy mental or physical scars from the injury.

Its a sad loss in my opinion.

I know this is speculative, but where do you think he would have gone in this years draft had he made it through. itd be nice to hear Sheahan's opinion on this if anyone gets the chance to ask him haha

The reason I posted this is not about his physical conditioning, as I believe the club would have him pushing the weights & no doubt some boxing when he's up & running.

What I'm on about is the things he's missing out on learning, by not getting the feedback from the coaches during training & playing games. The messages & instruction given out from coaching personnell that teaches the requirements & aids developement.

The accolades & the kicks in the butt.

I can't take any positives out of this situation. He will miss out on valuable match experience, training and most importantly he may have damaged one of the keys to his game, his pace. As far as I am concerned he is a write off until further notice.

Agreed, I know it might be drawing a long bow but I can't stop thinking about Nathan Browns similar break. It can only hamper the stand out parts of his game PACE & BALL USE

Nathan Brown broke BOTH bones in his lower leg. Blease only broke the fibula, which is the non load bearing bone in the leg anyway. He'll be 100% right when it heals.

Compound fracture means it pierced the skin. Doesn't mean both brones were broken.

I have experienced a broken fibula down near the ankle joint. The main problem is the extent of the damage to the ligaments. It took hundreds of hours of rehab and 12 - 18 months before I felt like my mobility was nearing something like it was.

To say that he will return to 100% health is an uninformed view in my mind. Its not to say that he won't but Sam, the club and his physios won't know how well he will recover for a long time.

Thats football, the only difference is that he didn't do it playing for the dees.

Hopefully he will be ready to go for a full pre season!

Correct. Regardless of whether it was one or two bones, it was a bad break.

I cant wait to see Strauss and Blease on our team. I think we will see a big difference, they are speedy players we crave, add Tom Scully to this we are looking a lot better in our struggling midfield.

It seems Watts and Blease are mates with Scully being vic metro boys, all good for future
