The Casey Fields Deal

Matt Demon

Recommended Posts

I was going to include some news on the exciting developments going on down there at Casey Fields in my last report but I'll wait until it's all signed, sealed and delivered. This deal seems to be taking forever but I'm assured by someone who knows how local government operates in this country and why councils are so inefficient and costly to operate. Get rid of them all, I say!

Agreed the whole system of local councils is a farce, I am all for democracy but at this level of government I fail to see the benefit. Melbourne (the city not football club) needs a better approach to governance.

And then probably deferred for another month, then another month, then another month.

The Rectangular stadium will be finished soon, let's tell the Casey Council to [censored] off, we dont need to be pouring heaps of money into the Casey Fields as a base.

To be reconsidered at the Casey Council meeting on Tuesday 2 June @ 6:30pm.

May this be our night?

reading the article, one of the councillors has changed her mind up to 5 times. What is she doing on the council?

Tell me about it. As somone who deals with them on a day to day basis I can relate to the delays in getting this deal done. The executive level of Local Government generally work well and know what they are doing, it is the review level (councillors) that are a pain in the rear end. Just ask the people of Brimbank!

You are assuming that the delays have been caused by council - have you ever considered that maybe the club was responsible for a lot of them? Remember there have been two parties to this negotiation, don't assume that one is entirely to blame for the time it has taken.

R u kidding? Any1 who knows anythin bout councils knows they r the most useless, inefficient level of government by far, and that is saying sumthing! Why wouldn't u assume the delays r their fault when they r insinuating it is them goin back and forth on this issue in the article? Changing their minds 5 times etc? Sounds like a bunch of imbeciles, too scared to make a decision and having to justify their waste of space positions

Typical is written all ova this

If you have been following this at all you'd know that the Casey Council approved it in August last year. Since then MFC has raised a number of issues, which have all now been finally resolved. Have a read of the Council report for some background:

http://www.casey.vic.gov.au/meetings/artic...?Item=14187#may

(May 19 agenda)

Sure the Council deferred it for 2 weeks when they considered it last week, but it took 9 months to get from the stage of Council having approved it last year to MFC having signed off.

I don't read the Council insinuating that they're going back and forth in the article:

"But at last week’s council meeting, some first-term councillors said they needed more time before they could make up their minds. "

The Mayor, Geoff Ablett said “I want to get this up and over the line. At the moment some councillors say they need a bit more time and information.

I want to give them the opportunity to meet with the club and allay any of their concerns so that we can come back to this chamber in two weeks time with unanimous support for this fantastic deal.”

"Demons football operations manager Chris Connolly said the club was happy to give councillors a bit more time."

The 5 time mind changer is only one of the Councillors - not the Council.

I would trust Suzanna and caseyscorp on this, they have been on top of it for ages.

Councils can be infuriating but Casey Council seems to get quite a lot done from where I sit.

And is turning a 9 letter word into an 8 letter word really worth how awful it looks. 'Something' into 'sumthing'?

I mean, why bother? You may as well write the extra letter...

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
