POINT KICK-INS

They've been worse than they were today Jack. But the problem is still that the players are stagnant and don't provide options to the kicker. There was one kick in in the second quarter where all the players moved to the same side of the ground, and Warnock was stranded, waiting for one of them to run into the open space on the other side of the ground. It was plainly obvious that someone should have gone the other direction.

Last year we had Whelen, Wheatley, Bell and Davey taking the kick ins and even though we were terrible as a team, THEY ACTUALLY HIT THEIR TARGETS! 95% of the time. This year we have first and second year players (Garland and Cheney) who dont have the composure just yet, and when the team is under pressure they turn the ball over. Imo i think davey should be taking all the kick ins and even warnock could be an option. I remember last year when we bombed it long it was quite effective as either Jamar or Jeff White took a pack mark and we got a goal out of it. This year all i can think of is either Garland or Cheney just chipping it to the (back) pockets and from there we were lucky to get it past the centre line.

We desperatly need a solution with our kick-ins coz in the last quarter today i was relieved when a player wearing red and blue actually got hold of the ball from the kick in.

Who took our kickins last year?

Wheatley

Whelan

Chris Johnson

Garland

Bell

There's your answer.

I never asked who took our kick-ins last year.

Garland's absence is going to make us realise very quickly why he is in the top 5 most important players on our list.

Poor Jnr Fanta Pants had a shocker, but when Davey fluffs them on a regular basis you know you're in trouble.

Rivers should be taking them in Garland's absence, but that's robbing Peter to pay Paul isn't it?

Pet hate, very amateur in the way be kicked out today. Players standing around the 50m with their hands in the air is pathetic.

it is a problem, especially when no one makes the move allowing the kicker somewhere to kick !!!!

What about our BOG, Davey!!!!! Forgetting to give himself a small kick, and running out of the goal square after the umpire told to play on. DIABOLICAL!!!

They were poor today. We don't seem to have many strategies in place. It was either kick it to a pocket then take off, which worked for abit when Davey was in full flight, but once he ran out of steam and got shut down, it lead to stagnation and we really struggled. Plan B was bomb it long to the 50 and hope. Didn't work. The players weren't moving or making leads. It's definitely something the coaching staff needs to work on with regards to alternate strategies, because the ball is down there an awful lot.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
