Is this top draft picks in terms of worst? or best?

at years end we will probably have two of the first three picks so....

thanks again , Butcher and Scully look the goods, not sold on Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick is a good player bit I wouldn't think ATM, he'd be a top 10.

BUT he would be a Very handy pickup.

Doesn't GC-17 get a whole BUNCH of the top 10? So, in theory, touchwood, if melbourne finish bottom, i thought we ended up with somewhere round pick 3?

GC-17 Concession draft picks are for the draft of Nov 2010. Not, this year.

Agree. Don't think he'll go top 10. There will more than likely be a few up and comers at the Champ's.

i think its too early for a thread like this, but since it has been started we have to get Butcher. Imagine a forward line in 2 -3 years of Watts, Butcher, Wonna, Bate, Jetta and one of Davey, Marric. The other pick i think we need to target a ruckman

There will be more pressure on the recruiting department than the actual footy side this year!

When are we going to see the first Phantom Draft and when is Kevin Sheehan going to reveal the next big thing in footy?

Also, is it possible when identifying the names of these new players that we're told whether they're going to still be at school next year? I appreciate what the club's doing with Watts & Blease ATM but next year I'd like to see our recruits before our season's over.

John Butcher dob / 3-7-91 ... 197cm - 83kg... Gippsland Power, Vic. currently 17 years.

Turns 18 July 2009.

He may be doing year - 12 this year?

Watts - 26/03/91

Blease - 19/02/91

Only a couple of months younger than Watts.

i like it but after Butcher we need another class mid before a ruckman

I agree-

Sylvinator's prediction for 2009 draft:

Pick 1- Best available midfielder

Pick 3- Best available Key forward

Pick 18- Best available Ruckman

pick 34- Best available small defender

Reasons:

- Our Defence is set, particularly KP defenders. all players are young and improving. Young Key Def- Martin, Warnock, Frawley, Garland, Rivers. Small Def- Grimes, Cheney, Bennel, Bartram. Could use one more small defender to replace Whelan and Wheatley eventually. 3rd Round pick should do the job.

- Our forward line needs works, of coarse. BUT, with Watts + pick 3 as future star Key forwards you could not get more certain success for key forwards. Small forwards is actually looking really good imo with Davey, Wonaemirri, Maric, Sylvia, Jetta. Thus, if Watts and pick 3 come good (as we know they will), our forward line will be set!

- Our midfield is our major problem. Mclean, Moloney, Jones and Buckley would be great 4th,5th,6th and 7th best midfielder. If we are going to win a premiership in 4-5 years we need to find star 1,2,3 midfielders. Morton could be 1? Strauss and Blease? Pick 1 will be a certain star. Which means we'll be going a long way to getting our midfield right.

- Our Rucks are a disaster- But 19 yr old Spenser looks really great and is 204cm so will always be competitive in ruck contests, which is crucial. PJ is ok around the grounds but never no.1 ruck. Jamar will fill in as no.1 in the meantime. However we need to draft another ruck onto our list. Pick 18 should do the trick.... I wouldn't be against trading pick 18 for a promising ruck from another team like Sydney did with Jolly. Oh what we'd do for Jolly now.

We are slowly but surely filling all the holes in our list.

i personaly think our first pic should go with a forward but id hate to see scully go at number 2, but weve still got a long wait to no wich would be the best decision.

every draft has gun mids , we must take another key forward to help Watts, on radio today they said if we win 4 or less games we will get pick 1 @ 2

Unless WC also qualifies for a pp.

I watched Jack Fitzpatrick today @ williamstown whilst listening to the radio.

Tall & speedy from the goal square.

The record says he is 201cm's.

The boy can play a little, nice mark, fair kick, athletic, good runner, agile.

Daniel Spiteri looked good for NSW.

Liked the play of Dylan Conway for western Jets.

Oh well, it is early but in case anybody is interested this is what took place today at the Morwell Football Ground:-

Gippsland Power 2.0 4.3 10.5 13.8 (86)

Dandenong Stingrays 6.5 8.7 14.10 16.11 (107)

Goals:

Gippsland Power: Butcher 5 Pincott 3 Vardy 2 Carr Northe Golby

Dandenong Stingrays: Pitt 5 McInnes 2 Petropoulos 2 Stringer-Morris 2 Parker Clifford Bastinac Robertson Hallahan

Best:

Gippsland Power: Vardy Butcher Stevens Pincott Dowse Heppell

Dandenong Stingrays: Scully Pitt Hallahan Mitchell Baumgartner Andrews

That is all ...

It's abit early to be discussing draft picks isnt it people :(

If we DO wind up with picks 1+2, then a tall forward and a classy mid would be my choices. So Butcher and Scully sound good at the moment, but there are usually bolters who show up (Watts, Hill). Scully looks the goods. Got good speed, is really smart, got great hands in close, and a good boot on him. Looks a complete midfielder.

A decent ruckman would be nice too. Seeing us get destroyed by Mcintosh last week, then Fraser today, made it quite clear we are a long way off here. PJ may be a decent second ruckman, but a first ruckman he is not! And the Spence may come along, but at the moment he is a raw rookie we've been forced to play who may or not make the cut. Meesen is gone. If he couldnt crack it now when Jamar is out, and had a rookie promoted and played ahead of him, then he has no hope of playing more than few games, let along being a decent ruckman for us.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
