Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

DUAL MAJOR SPONSORS ON THE WAY

You could actually advance the argument that as Woolies are rebranding in Vic it might actually serve a purpose as brand reinforcement to sponsor someone.

So RR you are saying that because Coles or Wollies supports MFC then people in Syd wont go to them? How does this differ from other brands that are National?

No.

There is nothing substantive to be gained by undertaking one state based parochial sporting team sponsorship by national operations that dominate their market throughout Australia. They dont need brand awareness out there. Everyone knows Woolworths, Safeway and Coles because everyone interacts with them at least once a week. Why would a big brand supermarket want to sponsor a poorly supported, Victorian Club with no exposure when it has a national profile? Makes no sense.

This rebranding is national to make Woolworths the sole name. Why would they seek to do such promotion with MFC? If they were to go with an AFL Club why would they go with one that has few supporters, no FTA TV exposure and no regional or community attachment in the areas they are seeking to inform?

Good way to get people calling the Wollworths instead of Safeway.

And if they actually did the promotion properly they might get people calling them "Woolworths" B)

The rebranding aplies to Vic and Tas only.is already woolies everywhere else.so a team that is Victorian-centric would make sense..no sense sponsoring Sydney as already anawareness of that particular guise of the brand.. down here however it would help promote the new logo etc..I.e brand awareness

Good for us...questionable for them.

If they were to do this, why wouldn't they have gone with a Collingwood or major club. Why wouldn't they have done a Mars and sought some collateral publicity in the Tassie bid?

MFC seems a poor communication medium for their message.

Possibly as those clubs already have secure sponsors.. and couldnt offer the premium spsce on a jumper as we can. They could indeed have donea Tassie thing...except theres no team there..a minor thing I concede ;)

You seem to assume the people pulling the strings at Woolworths are geniuses and would only go for a deal heavily balanced in their favour.

I can assure you they are not.

I have not said that at all. I just dont think they would do what we seem a completely illogical deal.

And if it comes to making assessment of corporate genius I tend to rely on those that can understand a pretty straightforward point of view.

"Jeff designed the MELBOURNEfc team uniform for the Club’s 150th year, and has formalised a further three year exclusive arrangement."

The 3 year exclusive arrangement may have come later than the 150th year?

There's been no announcement that I recall, so maybe I'm reading more into it than there is.

It just sorta mentions that they designed the 150th year formal wear, and that they have a 3 year deal.

As my Globe excitement was squished, have to do this with Jeff Banks, been on MFC website on Corporate Partners page since last year as a Silver Partner/Sponsor, seems to be a grouping as they work with Myer, Volvo, MFC, remember also seeing a rather overlong puff piece in the AGE when the store opened, perhaps they all have same PR/Marketing agency

Unless the two sponsors really do complement eachother - pies and sauce... VISY and the new season of Underbelly... TabCorp and the Family Crisis Counselling Centre... that sort of thing...

I'm so bitter

How about Queensland tourism sponsoring Nth Melb Kangaroos?

NT might be a good fit with Virgin blue for the DEES.

Robbo is doing the advertising for them.

His picture, dressed in a Jeff Banks suit, was plastered on just about every tram in the East Brighton area in the last year.

As far as I know, most clubs have a formal-wear sponsor (Peter Jackson with the Dogs and Carlton etc...), just as every club has a matchday-wear sponsor.

Alienate potential customers which they do not want to do. They market on a more broad based arrangement through other mediums.

I certainly wouldn't want to be seen in a Lexus & am now making sure there are no Mission Foods in the shopping basket (the wraps have been prominently marketed at the local Woolworths).

I have a ban on mission in my house too, but only because of the way they played the Dees. Had they gone straight to the Bullies with no Dees BS then I'd never have gotten my back up about them

Well I guess hat could be said for any brand?

Why align yourself with a club with no supporters, zero TV coverage and generally no publicity to speak of??

You overdo characteristics 1 and 3 but it is a central question for any potential sponsor.

Whats actually in it for us?

Too many posters, with a red and blue perspective and benefit have touted companies that would not go a bulls roar near sponsoring MFC.

Its a very hard brand to align with for a corporate. And its not surprising in the current global financial cyclone (pollie speak) that its turned out the way it has. Its still disappointing nevertheless.

Obviously I am exaggerating to support my argument, however in comparison to our competition ( in terms of bidding for a sponsor ) we do have no members and not much publicity at all. Unless of course, its to reinforce the fact that we DONT have a sponsor and we STILL don't have any money.

I agree that the food chains i.e Wollies and Coles would be poor choices, however I dont think that it would be a total loss for them. I think that these companies have a strong enough brand already, and wouldn't have to worry about alienating their customers.

I think that the best types of brand for this club in its current state, are the more generic, family friendly/ non exclusive brands.

Your right. Pretty bad timing for Melb, but hey, if your an optimist, the current economic state will (should ) (hopefully) only last another year or so. Hopefully we can get some good sponsorship on board to just carry us through. I don't believe we will find a brand that we will be having a long and prosperes relationship with for years and years to come.

I have heard rumours, none of them particularly credible, that Betfair was in the mix.

I too have heard rumours this morning. A friend of mine works for a stockbroking firm - one of his directors who used to be on the MFC board advised that we are close to announcing a major sponsorship with a betting agency.

Fingers and toes crossed people.

Ive been thinking IntraLot for a little while now.

Brand new scratchie company from Germany, looking for someone to align to.

I doubt intralot will be around in a few months after reading the newspaper articles yesterday about them. Sounds very dodgy-nobody is buying any of there scratchies & most of the newsagents want to take them to court!

Walk Away!

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
